AIBU - surely the majority of people enjoy spending time alone?

I'm slightly bemused by a recurring theme in the "what do you like that other people don't like" thread where multiple people have said 'being alone'

Now I'm not suggesting we all want to be alone 100% of the time but surely having some time on your own is desirable for the majority of people?

I can only think of 2 people I've known who genuinely didn't seem to take any comfort from being alone and preferred to have a companion 100% of the time. You don't need to be an introvert to enjoy some peace and quiet and the opportunity to do exactly what you want for a few hours.

YANBU - yes I prefer to have some regular alone time and so do most people I know

YABU - it's unusual to enjoy alone time and majority of people don't like it

@andcalloffchristmas I completely agree that there is a sliding scale and most of us need a mix of alone time and time spent with others

Also agree that lockdown has made it difficult for us to control the balance which can be hugely frustrating

If you look on the "what do you LIKE that most people dislike" thread it is bizarre how many people believe they are unusual in liking to spend time alone! Hmm

@Swingometer many of the posts on those threads seem to be things most people like!

And the same with people claiming to have unorthodox opinions for MN - they usually reflect the MN orthodoxy!

I am generally happier spending time alone - I feel quite tired and drained after spending too long in other peoples company!

I thought i liked alone time, and I do. There have certainly been times in my life when I'd have killed for a weekend on my own.
However I'm certainly not cut out for WFH and I play office noise and coffee shop noise on you tube to help me concentrate!
I've discovered i actually really like being on my own in a crowd. Like in the hubbub of a busy pub, cafe, office, city centre etc.
In summer I'd take my book and picnic to the local park rather than stay in my garden.
I think I might be a shy extrovert.

I love to be alone. My DP hates being alone and follows me around talking to me.
Thank god we work different shifts each week so l always get a couple of afternoons or evenings alone.

@WankPuffins I think I love your grandmother!
I aspire to being similar if my beloved DH shuffles off first.
