Ofsted report on remote learning .... If any of you did this .... thank you, thank you!

So in the ongoing attempt by the Govt (& certain section of the public) to paint teachers as the enemy in a global pandemic, Gavin Williamson’s announces (2 days after giving teachers less than 6 hours to put aside all the preparation done unpaid in the holidays to prepare onsite mass testing facilities and move to blended learning) that parents should report their school direct to Ofsted if they aren’t happy with their school’s offer.

Apparently Ofsted are inundated with over 5000 responses ..... mostly from parents praising their school and teachers!!

schoolsweek.co.uk/ofsted-deluged-with-5000-emails-as-parents-turn-tables-on-williamson-by-reporting-superb-schools/

So if it was you - thank you! I’ve worked over 100 hours this week as have most of my staff.

As a teacher I would be so, so touched if you dropped off a meal at my house. We had a parent turn up at school today with a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts for us just to say thanks. Every little positive comment on dojo makes my heart sing. Every teacher I know is flat out at the moment (and considering our workload before they shut schools was crazy you can imagine how bad this has made it). All the small things add up when you feel so unappreciated by those meant to be involved in your direction and leadership (we mean you Gavin seeing as you are probably too thick to take the hint). High fives to all those home schooling as well - not an easy job. Plus I need to thank all our amazing support staff that make my job so much easier.

@RosieLancs

I sent one earlier today, teachers at our school have been working so flummin hard, teacher key worker / vulnerable children alongside hosting Teams lessons. Gavin Williamson is an utter cockwomble. I made sure to email the school after lessons finished today just to thank them and let them know their efforts are appreciated.
Excellent email but you've left your name (accident?) and I can tell the school (im town nearby) from first letter.

You may want to report your post?

Chanandlerbong01 · 08/01/2021 23:09

@RosieLancs you’ve left your name on! I’ve reported your post but you might want to too.

CarrieCat · 08/01/2021 23:11

A decent government supports teachers and schools. A weak and immoral one blames them for their own failings.

Chanandlerbong01 · 08/01/2021 23:13

@CarrieCat 100% correct! They see us as someone they are working against and not with. They can shift the blame if we are the enemy, they have to share it if we are a team.

FlippinNoah · 08/01/2021 23:39

Another teacher here who wants to say thank you to every single person who emailed Ofsted with praise!

Stress levels in staff at my school are sky-high this week, we are running on adrenaline and doing the best we possibly can. To be threatened with Ofsted at this time is nothing short of nasty.

I've seen on Twitter all the tweets from parents describing the positive emails they've sent to Ofsted and I guarantee it warms our hearts and keeps us going! So thank you if you are one of the people who have done this.

Clavinova · 08/01/2021 23:56

The Schools Week article could have chosen better examples. If you click on the name of the first 'parent' who tweeted;

"I felt I had no choice but to report my children’s school to Ofsted. Feel free to do the same..."

it also reveals that he is a Year 6 teacher and Assistant Headteacher.

The other links in the article are tweeted from a parent who describes herself as part mermaid part headteacher - the other signs off with #CorbynWasRight Grin

Saying that, ds2's teachers are also providing excellent remote learning with live teaching - but it is a private school.

BackforGood · 09/01/2021 00:08

Well said @CarrieCat

I don't have a child of school age anymore, so couldn't really do this, but am SO glad so many people have done so. My friends in schools are just shattered. This is such a massive giant hug. Thank you to everyone who has e-mailed in.

SoscaredforJan · 09/01/2021 00:12

Can we email Ofsted to report Gavin Williamson for being so damaging to millions of children’s education?

God not you again.

You can send any email you like to anyone.

It's not what they have suggested but it helps to get the general feeling out there so anyone who's been living in a darkened cupboard for the past few months!

Sirzy · 09/01/2021 07:13

I have emailed.

I have also emailed the head of the school and the class teacher to thank them for all they have done and how quickly they got things in place.

GeordieGreigsButtButtZoom · 09/01/2021 07:14

Some of us understand that the schools and teachers are doing their best in a horrible situation that's not of their making. We realise that the ones to blame for this are the government who created a shit system, and a very significant proportion of exploitative, piss taking parents who are abusing said shit system.

Schools and teachers are absolutely not to blame, in fact you're the ones doing all the work to try to make it up to the kids who are now being disadvantaged long term with no significant public benefit. Thank you.

Well you can email a compliant directly to the DfE.

Timeturnerplease · 09/01/2021 07:17

Thank you. I have worked until after midnight every night this week, and then up again at 5 with the toddler. More work to do tomorrow to prep for Monday, but feeling much more prepared now. We’re doing our best.

PugInTheHouse · 09/01/2021 08:21

I won't be emailing ofsted but have made sure the school are aware of how grateful we are for what they are doing. Its a nice gesture, I get that, but I am not sure adding thousands of extra emails to an email inbox is a great thing to do during this time.

I don't think it was right of him to suggest that at all, if there is a genuine concern surely people will contact ofsted. I know some people who have done that previously given that their GCSE age kids have only been given an hour of work a day throughout the 1st lockdown and any isolation time so quite right to complain after getting no response from school or governors but I would say its totally out of order to complain if it is not quite perfect.

The teachers my kids have been taught by have done an incredible job, worked ridiculously long hours and have responded to any concerns or queries anyone has had really quickly (I have a DS with additional needs so have needed support at times). We are so grateful for everything they have done.

PugInTheHouse · 09/01/2021 08:25

Can I just be really clear that I really dont support anyone emailing ofsted to complain unless there is a risk to the children, if that is Y11 children for instance getting little or no work set or a safeguarding issue, not because little Johnny isn't being set extension tasks because he is so so clever and bored!

napody · 09/01/2021 10:33

I am actually crying with relief and happiness at this.
8PM ON MONDAY FFS! After we had spent our christmas holidays planning for face to face teaching instead of recovering from a hellish autumn term. And no, online and in person teaching need completely separate planning each week, they are not in any way interchangeable (especially in primary).

It'd be like the Govt telling NHS managers on Sunday morning that the Nightingale Hospitals absolutely definitely wouldn't be needed. Then on Monday night.... 'Right, we need them to be up and running by tomorrow morning, and we will be encouraging the public to report you....' Slight exaggeration :) but talk about kicking folk when they are down. No clapping for us then I guess.....?

Thank you, parents. I emailed the exec head of my kids' school on the last day of term praising staff for all they did last term in an awful situation. Off to praise them to ofsted now...

LadyCatStark · 09/01/2021 11:03

@spanieleyes

Apparently he forgot to warn OFSTED that he was going to say that. They are not amused as they are now trawling through the 5000 odd emails to find which ones are in praise and which ones are genuine complaints!
Brilliant! So this has the duel effect of pissing OFSTED off and well as the government 😂 definitely going to do this!
napody · 09/01/2021 13:19

LadyCatStart absolutely :D It's actually a really really powerful act that has occurred completely spontaneously. Maybe we will have some teachers and TAs left by the end of the year, if parents unite against Gav's obvious spite...

PugInTheHouse · 09/01/2021 13:30

Ladycatstark - I am not sure we should find it amusing to be honest. If there are genuine complaints or safeguarding issues being emailed in then these won't be dealt with as quickly as possible. There are some genuine concerns I would imagine, not necessarily online teaching related.
