This week I’ve been so amazed by how very hard the teachers at my son’s school have been working, they’ve had to deal with teaching classes where 50% of the pupils have turned up, making sure home schooling is available and working, answering questions from pupils and staff, making sure all the kids are happy whether in school or at home. They had no notice yet have done an amazing job. As a parent at home juggling work and homeschooling I really appreciate the enormous effort they are making in v difficult circumstances-so a big big thank you from a grateful parent to all the teachers on here -you’re amazing

Are you a teacher per chance?

HighHeelBoots · 08/01/2021 18:46

I only came for the voteAngry

TheWitchCirce · 08/01/2021 18:47

Same here. My three children are at three different schools (2 secondary one primary). They have all had personal contact either via phone calls or in google classroom. Feedback on their work has been exceptional. The primary teacher is presumably marking 90 pieces of work p/day if all children are completing work.

Tempted to email OFSTED with all my positive comments.

No I’m an accountant -what’s your job? A palm reader? You know what, I tried to do something nice and sad little people like you can’t resist -such a shame!

They were told months ago that they had to be ready to provide high quality remote learning. They had plenty of notice and are now doing their jobs.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 08/01/2021 18:53

Thank you OP. It's nice to hear some support for us. Sadly not surprised to hear the cunty comments from people who inexplicably seem to be mad at all teachers.

I'm a firm believer in if you do a good job you should be praised. Even if it's "tHe jOb yOUrE pAiD tO Do"

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 08/01/2021 18:55

And some of us have had to deliver lessons whilst home schooling telling to STFU our primary aged kids. It's not easy and thanks is appreciated.

Miranda15110 · 08/01/2021 18:55

They are outstanding and deserve our unreserved thanks. They have put themselves in the firing line throughout this horrendous pandemic and continue to do so. I'm not a teacher btw but my sd and her dp are. I know how difficult things have been for them and how they agonised over the situation on Monday. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Mapletreelane · 08/01/2021 18:56

Agree with you OP. They have been incredible. There has been confusion since before Xmas and they have reacted so well, the teachers and all the staff. On top of the lessons there is the pastoral and community care. Our primary school has organised free school meals parcels, and our secondary school had set up and was ready to implement the testing program. They have learnt so much since March lockdown. I feel like they are forgotten in this pandemic. I think as well so many of us have a realised how tough teaching is.

I am not a teacher, I don't work in anything to do with education.

And what is your point? Presumably you would say the same to doctors in ICU, soldiers? All just doing their job which they absolutely are. How is it to have a life with no sense of gratitude. I’m absolutely perplexed why you would come on a thread saying I would like to say thank you and you say well I don’t think they deserve it, sad!

Totally agree, my dd has loved homeschooling this week thanks to the effort her teachers have put in.

Were they given any time, money or resources to get ready?

Is their job teaching a full timetable and also supervising 20 critical worker children?

Do you work 12 hours a day and only be paid for 6.5? Every week of the year?

pooopypants · 08/01/2021 18:59

If my DC's teachers asked me for a gold plated unicorn right now, I'd do my damndest to hunt one down and hand deliver it. I don't know how they do this shit, day in, day out. I'm incredibly thankful for them at the moment and when DC go back to school, they'll be taking a card and a small gift (probably alcohol) with them.

Is it their job? Yes. Is it a million times harder to do right now? Yes. They deserve praise and they shall have mine.

YANBU OP.

TooStressyTooMessy · 08/01/2021 18:59

YANBU. Massive shout out from me too. My DC’s school is doing an absolutely incredible job and I will be writing to Ofsted to tell them this.

Not a teacher myself or anything to do with schools.

mbosnz · 08/01/2021 19:00

Shoutout from me too. On top of pandemic, and providing inschool work for those that need it or are eligible for it, providing excellent remote learning programmes for my too meaning they are well engaged for much of the time we're both working full time from home, they have also had to deal with an horrific event in our school community, and the impact on the students as a result.

They bloody rock. I'm not a teacher. I'm also very aware they're 'just' doing their job, but from where I sit, it looks like a rather hard, and somewhat thankless one, with far too many arseholes wanting to put the boot in with the smallest provocation.

CountessFrog · 08/01/2021 19:01

Teachers at our high school doing a fabulous job. Big thumbs up from me.

DecemberSun · 08/01/2021 19:01

Ah the usual suspects with their irrational hatred for teachers cannot resist poisoning a nice thread.

So predictable. So utterly pointless. Sad little lives.

I don’t hate them. I just think it makes more sense to tell them specifically that they’re doing a good job, if they are. I’m not sure why this is in AIBU.

Amore2 · 08/01/2021 19:09

Thank you so much for this. I really don't understand the whole, 'well they are paid and it's their job'. Sure, but I always thank people eg restaurant staff, shop workers for doing their jobs (when they do a decent job) so why not teachers too?

Ijustreallywantacat · 08/01/2021 19:11

Watchthisfaxe: Believe you me, it was no notice insomuch as many of us thought we were going to be in school on Tuesday, then were told in the evening beforehand, at the same time as everyone else, that it was going to be different. Yes, things were ready, but the sudden U turn made everything more difficult than it needed to be.

I don't think teachers are some high and mighty profession, but it has been bloody hard. One of my colleagues is very old school, total technophobe. She has had to learn very quickly how to record, edit and upload on the platform we are using, all while having to relearn how to do her job in an alien environment while also trying to teach non-techy parents how to things she only learned herself a week ago. She is so bloody committed, we had to order her to take a break. School is totally inescapable at the moment.

My working hours have gone from about 50 hours a week, to easily 70+ this week, and I'll be recording lessons all weekend. I AM going above and beyond, and so are all of my colleagues.

From one tired teacher, thank you very much, and thank you for supporting our efforts by communicating and doing your best with your kids. Ill give a massive shout out to all workers putting in that extra effort to keep the country running.

@Watchthisface

Lemonpiano: agreed.

Ihatefish: No you came for a sycophantic echo chamber. It’s great they are doing their jobs, which they are well paid for. In answer t your question, I do believe you are being unreasonable. We should commend people for doing their jobs, we should “give a massive shout out” to people going above and beyond. If you want to be kind, tell the teacher themselves, not us. This idea that they have “had no notice” is a misconception that the unions have tried to spread. Please don’t perpetuate it.

Erm, no we didn't have any notice Confused Our term began on Tuesday and Boris announced 8pm the night before that we would be teaching remotely. Yes we have all the systems in place to teach remotely (including setting homework online to ensure all pupils are confident logging in etc ..) but we had 13 hours to adapt our planning to online as well as organise which staff would be in school for the pupils of critical workers and which of us would be delivering live lessons.

After a really tough week ( in which I have to say the children have been amazing ) it's quite shitty to see people here putting the boot in. I'm only trying to do my job, so thank you OP I appreciate the sentiment Smile

SillyOldMummy · 08/01/2021 19:14

I've been soooooo impressed by my DD's primary school this time around. And the teacher has put so much effort in, she's always cheerful and kind, she's been posting the online class work at 7am and turns round most of the marking same day, sometimes at 9pm.

Thank you teachers, even the ones who are struggling and not really winning - thank you for trying.
