This week I’ve been so amazed by how very hard the teachers at my son’s school have been working, they’ve had to deal with teaching classes where 50% of the pupils have turned up, making sure home schooling is available and working, answering questions from pupils and staff, making sure all the kids are happy whether in school or at home. They had no notice yet have done an amazing job. As a parent at home juggling work and homeschooling I really appreciate the enormous effort they are making in v difficult circumstances-so a big big thank you from a grateful parent to all the teachers on here -you’re amazing

  • how they COULD provide more support for DS.
AtrociousCircumstance · 08/01/2021 19:43

Another grateful parent here. Huge thanks to the teachers keeping it all going FlowersBrew

Fr0thandBubble · 08/01/2021 19:44

I’ve been very impressed with my children’s state primary too - they are doing a much better job than during the first lockdown.

luckyrabbits · 08/01/2021 19:46

I agree, I have been bowled over by the offering and the patience of the teachers we have been dealing with. Everyone is putting in so much effort. Massive thanks to everyone pulling out all the stops.

@Lemonpiano

They were told months ago that they had to be ready to provide high quality remote learning. They had plenty of notice and are now doing their jobs.
Yes they were and most sorted it in the Autumn term - set pupils up with access to online platforms, advised parents and sent out logins and passwords whilst still teaching a class full of pupils daily. What this at the detriment of your child's education? No, most worked very long hours daily to get all of this sorted and this week we have been inundated with messages from parents who can't find their logins or remember their passwords and some deny ever receiving them. Once again this has all been sorted alongside teaching keyworker children and delivering online learning to the majority who are working at home.

The emails of thanks are much appreciated, are shared with staff and will be kept as 'evidence' for OFSTED should any other parents complain to them that they are not satisfied we are providing an adequate education for their child in these difficult times.

Can you tell that it has been a very busy and tiring week - I am not a teacher 👩‍🏫

rc22 · 08/01/2021 19:51

I'm a teacher and like everyone else in lockdown, I'm doing my absolute best. Contrary to what many believe, I would love nothing more than to be working in my classroom with ALL of my class. OP, the shout out is very much appreciated.

MsIreneWinters · 08/01/2021 19:51

Teachers and support staff are doing an incredible job in the most difficult circumstances.

The amount of time, hard work, and worry which has gone into putting everything into place -particularly at such short notice- is amazing. I am very grateful to them.

Poppingnostopping · 08/01/2021 19:52

Mine are getting live teaching through Google Classroom several hours a day in big classes with the chat monitored. They type 'done' when they have completed a task and ask questions via chat. This is with large cohorts though, not individual classes any more, which makes sense- why repeat the same session several times when there's not really the opportunity for interaction. I think it's not worth trying for cameras all the time, Teams is problematic.

I don't think they expected the government let everyone and their pets to claim spaces to stay in school at the same time.
sherrystrull · 08/01/2021 19:52

@Daphnise

I would be pleased to acknowledge any group of people doing their jobs under difficult circumstances with this horrible virus so rife.

Whether teachers are especially worthy I can't say.

Yeah I agree. I haven't seen any doctors working recently so who knows if they are working hard too...
LizDiz · 08/01/2021 19:55

Agreed. Well done teachers and TAs. Not only provided online learning and onsite teaching, but also had to deal with all that crap about schools opening, then shutting and the testing.

rc22 · 08/01/2021 19:57

@Daphnise because the media and people on social media are not trying to pull any other profession down in the same way as they are with teachers.

FrankButchersDickieBow · 08/01/2021 19:57

Yanbu OP. Haven't left, cos I cba with the negative vibes from some.

I have 3 sisters who are teachers who are working their bollocks off.

My daughters high school have been amazing with their online resources and lesson plans.

Form tutor called to see how dd was getting on and if we needed any extra support.

They're doing amazing under the circumstances.

WirKindervomBahnhofZoo · 08/01/2021 19:58

Thanks to everyone for all the lovely comments about teachers, we're doing our best!

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 08/01/2021 20:01

Thank you OP and everyone else. We are doing our best and are most definitely not sat at home doing nothing! I can promise you! Maybe some people are, but it’s anything like my school this week,, they definitely are not.

Gordonbennit · 08/01/2021 20:01

Massive thanks here for teachers too - I do believe they have gone above and beyond at least at my children’s school they have. It’s very much appreciated. Flowers

It’s worth ‘repeating it several times’ because different classes still need different input and support. I’m teaching my own classes and tailoring work to their needs. There’s plenty of opportunity for interaction. This only works if the individual class teachers aren’t teaching those in school though. KW/vulnerable children should be supervised to do the online learning by TAs - still better provision than those at home.
Dollygirl2008 · 08/01/2021 20:08

I agree. Huge respect and thanks

SaltyAF · 08/01/2021 20:09

@Watchthisface

Are you a teacher per chance?
Are you looking for an opportunity for a little dog 'perchance'? (What a wank word).
SaltyAF · 08/01/2021 20:10

Dig 😳😬

Nonamesavail · 08/01/2021 20:10

Teachers are amazing. Thank you all x

TooTiredToAdultToday · 08/01/2021 20:12

Teacher here. Thank you to the parents who are supporting teachers on the closure of schools to fight the spread of Covid, rather than lambasting us for the difficulties it has caused. We really would rather be in school caring for your children than trying to teach through a screen and we know how incredibly hard it is for you to work from home/home school. Your support means the world to us. 🌟

Makingnumber2 · 08/01/2021 20:13

Thanks @Ihatefish Flowers and @TheWitchCirce definitely email Ofsted. They've had over 5000 positive emails apparently Grin so Gav's little comment backfired a tad didn't it?

I expect someone as sour as @Lemonpiano didn't agree with clap for carers in lockdown 1, cos after all- they're just doing their job aren't they?

TheBuffster · 08/01/2021 20:15

Thank you OP. I'm having a really hard time right now with medical problems for ds. DH is a teacher and I feel like a widow he's working so hard and isn't able to help out much. It's nice to hear some positivity.
Truly appreciated.
All the haters can do one.
