to think Derbyshire police need to read the LAW and understand that you can't fine people when they are not breaking it

Surrounded by police, treated like a criminal for driving 5 miles to a beauty spot for a walk.

It is not illegal to drive to exercise.

Definitely seems heavy handed. Where are they when you really need them?

There excuse is that its not in the spirit to go somewhere quiet to exercise? And a hot drink on a freezing day does not a picnic make

Seriously, it’s not difficult to just stick to the rules. Is it Essential to drive to walk in that specific place? Do their legs not work out of their front doors? Exactly. Compo faces right there. Give the police/nhs/teachers a break and worry about yourself

justmatureenough2bdad · 08/01/2021 12:24

a quick check on google maps show that the place she lives in is 7 miles from the reservoir.... might be a small difference, but that is the law.
note that the second person cleverly doesn't disclose where she lives...

It is not against the law. Unless you want to live in a place where the police can arrest you for things that aren't illegal.

The police are dickheads tbh

Can you quote the leglisation where it gives a distance?

I started a thread about this earlier. Utter disgrace.

You exercise in your local area, not the area you wish you lived in.

Google maps takes you to the middle she might not live in the middle? I live by a valley but technically I live in a town if you Google my town in relation to the valley its several miles away my reality is its down the end of my road
ZaraW · 08/01/2021 12:27

I think they are being unreasonable.

ComDummings · 08/01/2021 12:27

None of these fines will stand up in court

XVmama · 08/01/2021 12:28

When Dominic Cummings went wherever the fuck he pleased, he basically forced Boris to clarify that the “rules” were not laws, which could be legally enforced, but merely guidance.

Hopefully everyone who was charged or fined is taking legal advice, and preparing to sue the arses off the police.

LakieLady · 08/01/2021 12:28

Bloody hell.

I hope my local force don't start this malarkey. I drive 10 miles to the coast for most of my walks because it's very hilly where I live. I'm waiting for knee surgery on my knee and going downhill is really painful.

The only level walk locally is an incredibly muddy and busy riverside walk. I'd have to drive 2 miles to get to it, and parking anywhere close by is really difficult.

ZaraW · 08/01/2021 12:28

The walkers not the police.

justsayso · 08/01/2021 12:30

Derbyshire police have form for this - they're ridiculous. they had drones out over the moors last lockdown to name and shame walkers.

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 08/01/2021 12:30

Bloody hell. They can’t fine someone for doing something that’s “not in the spirit of the lockdown”.

The law says you need a reasonable excuse to leave your home - if what they were doing was good enough to be outside their home then it’s good enough to be 5 miles away, because the law doesn’t include anything about travel or distances!

And that’s bollocks about a drink being a picnic. If a drink is a picnic then a beer is a substantial meal, isn’t it?

My legs only work in one direction from my front door. Sooner or later, I have to go down a steep hill, either on the outward or return walk. It's excruciating.
VinylDetective · 08/01/2021 12:31

Oh, it’s fucking Derbyshire again. You’d think they’d have learnt from all the negative publicity they got from the debacle in March last year. Their chief constable needs to get a grip.

It’s the same everywhere, the police are an absolute joke and have shown themselves to be weak and pointless during this pandemic.
