cheating on exam tomorrow

elerng · 07/01/2021 21:06

DD has an 11 plus exam tomorrow, it is for a private school and academic scholarships will be awarded based on the results.

The exam has been sent to all parents today to print out for the child tomorrow. The children will sit the exam being watched by teachers via zoom, and complete the printed out paper. The parents then need to take the paper away and send it to the school.

DH and I have different views on if cheating will happen. I don't think parents will cheat, I have to believe all parents will respect the difficult circumstances however DH does think others will cheat.

So I guess AIBU to think parents won't cheat on behalf of the child?

Sorry, but yes they will if they can get away with it.

I wouldn't either but don't expect to get a scholarship place.

Lemonpiano · 07/01/2021 21:08

Nah, people will cheat.

CouchPommeFrite · 07/01/2021 21:09

Of course some parents will cheat, they sent the paper the day before which gives them time to prep their child to answer it.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 07/01/2021 21:10

They will cheat.

LouiseTrees · 07/01/2021 21:10

People will cheat. They will read the questions and coach the child in answers. They actually fill it in tomorrow but they already know the answers to put down.

AIMD · 07/01/2021 21:11

Yea some people will cheat. Some people place a huge amount of focus on the 11+ and I can’t believe that wouldn’t push them to cheat.

BlackberrySky · 07/01/2021 21:11

Some people would sell their granny to get those school places. They will definitely cheat. I imagine the schools will also interview though? That will highlight some of the ones who have patently cheated but not the borderline ones sadly.

acrossthebrooklynbridge · 07/01/2021 21:12

I would think most people would cheat actually.

PlanDeRaccordement · 07/01/2021 21:12

It’s classic prisoners dilemma. Of course cheaters are going to cheat. The question is whether you will cheat or not? Is your morality dependent on the actions of the immoral? (Most cheaters justify their cheating by saying others cheat btw.)

Ithinkim · 07/01/2021 21:12

100% they will all cheat.

elerng · 07/01/2021 21:13

Really? But an 11 year old will know cheating is wrong and will know they are cheating. I can't imagine helping my child to do that and letting them think it's ok. Shit. Oh well I'm not changing my values.

Of course people will cheat. How will they know the paper sent in is the paper completed during the zoom session? You could complete a second copy with the child and send that in?

Obviously it's wrong to cheat but what are the school thinking having a system so open to abuse?

caringcarer · 07/01/2021 21:13

This is madness. Why not send link to print off exam immediately before school watch child sit it. It is unfair but I suspect some parents will look through questions and even if don't show child paper will get them to practice/revise similar questions this evening.

samb80 · 07/01/2021 21:13

I can't believe the school would actually do this - this seems completely bonkers to me!

Lougle · 07/01/2021 21:13

I wouldn't cheat, but I bet a sizeable majority would.

Ithinkim · 07/01/2021 21:13

People would sell a family member for a grammar place here.

I bet they can't believe their luck.

Penistoe · 07/01/2021 21:16

This reads a little bit like you trying put the feelers out their for what you are about to do op. Grin

arethereanyleftatall · 07/01/2021 21:16

They could cheat without letting the child know. Look at the questions and quick last minute revision session tonight going through very similar questions

elerng · 07/01/2021 21:16

There will also be an interview for any who make it through, and I would have thought they will look at and compare past reports to exam performance. So I suppose that is what I was hoping would help to put others off cheating.

It could also be a kind of 'test' from the school. It may well be patently obvious who has cheated. 99% of kids get 99% and 1 gets 50%

HelloDulling · 07/01/2021 21:18

Of course people will cheat. The school SLT are idiots.

popNlock · 07/01/2021 21:18

Yes they will cheat.

MumW · 07/01/2021 21:18

100% they will all cheat.
^this
Not all but many, scholarships are too incredibly sort after for there not to be.

satnighttakeaway · 07/01/2021 21:19

That's a such a crazy way to set the exam that it's almost unbelievable

Of course parents wil cheat, surely they will all print off more than one copy of the paper and work with the child to send their best version in. Who is actually going to send the one the child actually completed while being watched

How totally bizarre

Purplepeopleeaters123 · 07/01/2021 21:20

I'm a maths tutor and used to tutor for the 11 plus. Some parents will do absolutely anything to try to ensure their children pass the exam.
