Can I drive 30 mins

Can I drive 30 mins to see my partner (my support bubble). I've heard they're stopping cars randomly. I know support bubbles are allowed, but unclear about the journey to get to and from.

Where are you? Which country of the UK? Do you cross a county boundary? What distance is your 30 minutes?

Mousehole10 · 06/01/2021 20:53

Yes you can.

Whatayearalready21 · 06/01/2021 20:55

Yes. I highly doubt you will be pulled over but if you were just explain you are going to your support bubble. It’s 30 minutes away, not 3 hours. You’ll be fine.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 06/01/2021 20:56

Yes. You can. Guidance is to stay local. But you are entitled to visit your support bubble wherever they are. The questions about distance/crossing county borders are not relevant provided you are both in England. Be prepared to be stopped though.

Can I drive 30 mins?

Only to test your eyesight!

DappledOliveGroves · 06/01/2021 21:04

There are thousands of cars out and about. I did a five hour round trip last week and saw one sole police car the entire time. The likelihood of you being stopped is minuscule and in any event you're going to see someone in your support bubble. Absolutely go!

HelloCanYouHearMe · 06/01/2021 21:30

I'm doing it OP. My partner (support bubble) lives 35 miles away - it's a 45min drive

Taylrse · 06/01/2021 21:40

Yeh. I drove a 3 hour journey to see my mum who has no one else, mainly motorway. No police anywhere.

AlwaysLatte · 06/01/2021 21:42

Of course, if you have to. I have to drive 30 miles to see one parent and back (twice a week) and then 15 mins to see the other one (every day) because I look after them both (disabled and housebound) so I'm always on the road, and I wasn't stopped in the first lockdown nor in this one.

PragmaticWench · 06/01/2021 21:43

Yes. DH has to drive two hours to take food to my MIL each week. Totally fine.

Even if it was three hours, it's allowed
movingonup20 · 06/01/2021 22:16

I'm heading to my parents an hour away later in the week, never got stopped in previous lockdowns

FantaIsFine · 06/01/2021 22:28

@AlwaysLatte can I get this right? You are regularly visiting both parents, separately, separate locations. I am completely ready to say I've misunderstood your restrictions but this to me seems completely against the rules?

SnackSizeRaisin · 06/01/2021 22:31

It is not against the rules as the poster stated they are caring for them due to disability. It would only be against the rules if it was a social visit.

FantaIsFine · 06/01/2021 22:35

Two households though?

teenagetantrums · 06/01/2021 23:06

Drive where you like. I had to go to hospital today. One hour drive loads of cars on road. No police at all.

CatVsChristmasTree · 06/01/2021 23:08

Of course you can. 30 mins is nothing in many parts of the country, I have to drive that far to get to my nearest decent sized supermarket. Also same to get to work.

Crystalclair · 06/01/2021 23:13

Thank you all

There is no limit on travel to support bubbles. I look after an elderly parent over 3 hours away and will continue to make the journey every couple of weeks.

Aalvarino · 06/01/2021 23:23

Totally acceptable to drive to two different households to provide care for disabled individuals. What dyou think carers do??

MiddleClassMother · 06/01/2021 23:25

I got pulled over in the first lockdown headed to work (to pick things up to WFH) but in the others (and the current) lockdowns I've been going to work everyday and not been pulled over. In fact I don't think i've seen one police car, I travel mainly by motorway and headed to work there's very few people about.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 06/01/2021 23:35

@FantaIsFine

Two households though?
Where does it say you can only provide support to disabled people in one household?
partyatthepalace · 07/01/2021 00:11

Yes of course. Its v unusual to be pulled over, but just explain you are travelling to support bubble.

WidowTwonky · 07/01/2021 00:20

Does this not mean you can only support one household?

Can I drive 30 mins
PragmaticWench · 07/01/2021 05:59

@WidowTwonky but they're not part of another bubble, both disabled parents have the poster as their carer. What else would you suggest, leave them to suffer alone?!

@AlwaysLatte we're doing the same, supporting two elderly parents, one in each household. What else can you do? Confused
