To not tell my boss what the procedure is?

I spoke to my boss today to tell him that I might need a week or so off after an urgent procedure I need done in next couple of weeks. Might only be a couple of days but don't know how I will feel after a GA. It's a hysteroscopy and polypectomy + biopsy to check it isn't cancer. I don't really see why he needs to know exactly what I'm having done but he's insisting I tell him. I've said I'm happy to speak to occupational health, I work from home behind a computer so not strenuous. Just don't see why he needs to know. I'm really anxious so this may be clouding my judgement. AIBU to just tell him it's not a major op and would rather keep details to myself?

Occupational Health input is not necessary

I told my manager it was for a laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and possible endometrial ablation. He just stared blankly. Grin

I don't blame you for keeping medical matters private. Even if your boss had a clue about women.

I’d just take a thumbs up selfie of yourself next to the sign for the gynae ward, then send it to him. (I don’t think I would actually have the balls to do it but would admire anyone who did!)

I have gynae issues and was off work a few weeks ago with a severe haemorrhage .

When I returned for my back to work interview I was asked why I was off and when I hesitated was told clearly I didn't need to give details.

I just said I had a condition called x and it's a gynae issue and I'd be having various treatments and tests over the months to try and treat it non surgically.

They were really good and when I needed to book tomorrow off for treatment just said on request that further to back to work interview on x date I had treatment booked.

Day given paid.

Your boss shouldn't be pushing you. They aren't doctors for a start so cannot make judgements on your time off and how much you need etc.

I will add my boss is female so I do feel there's an element of empathy involved a male boss probably wouldn't give!
