I thought we were Europe's crazies?

Bookworming · 04/01/2021 13:58

Where is this data from?

SoddingWeddings · 04/01/2021 13:59

Link please.

iVampire · 04/01/2021 14:00

Great - more to other countries

Are they Covax members? They could perhaps put it into that system

(Or it might now be exactly true?)

Toilenstripes · 04/01/2021 14:00

I’ve heard this too. But then there were the 2,500 French people at that rave over the new year. We’re crazy but they’re next level.

SoddingWeddings · 04/01/2021 14:01

Found it

Flywheel · 04/01/2021 14:02

Yes I read that somewhere. Very alarming as I was hoping to go there this summer but having second thoughts

SoddingWeddings · 04/01/2021 14:02

From that survey

60% of French people do not want the vaccine
CrotchBurn · 04/01/2021 14:02

I just saw them debating it on the news. Here's an article: www.lefigaro.fr/politique/la-population-francaise-reste-en-majorite-refractaire-a-la-vaccination-20210103

OP posts:
Danu2021 · 04/01/2021 14:03

Why is that crazy?

Danu2021 · 04/01/2021 14:04

Makes total sense that that is the figure. The oldest people, people who are overweight, have diabetes, asthma, heart problems, CF, they will all definitely want the vaccine, everybody else is going to think twice.

Tenpintonpin · 04/01/2021 14:05

My elderly inlaws, who live in France, said that none of their equally elderly French friends have any intention of getting vaccinated, and and quite distrustful of vaccination in general. Apparently last time there was a national voluntary vaccination programme there was an extremely low take up (less than 10%).

NothingIcando · 04/01/2021 14:05

My partner is french. Has just come back from a week there and said thats definitely the general consensus with those he has spoken to and what he has read and heard.
Many wont take a vaccine. And you know the french. The have no problem protesting anything. Not that they can be forced to take it but many are definitely not interested.

FourTeaFallOut · 04/01/2021 14:06

The margin of uncertainty is quite wide in France, whereas here they are estimating within 2%.

www.wired.co.uk/article/france-covid-antivaxx-coronavirus

On the upside, there is less vaccine hesitancy among the vulnerable. Interestingly, French women are more hesitant than the men. Confused

NothingIcando · 04/01/2021 14:07

What Tenpintonpin said. Many who said theyd refuse,were elderly and frail also.

pointythings · 04/01/2021 14:07

Well, this is a country where you can get any number of complementary therapies paid for, and where until not so long ago, autism wasn't accepted as a diagnosis because the belief was that it was caused by 'maternal coldness'. All cultures have their quirks.

CrotchBurn · 04/01/2021 14:08

@FourTeaFallOut

Yes I saw that, apparently 69% of those who dont want it are female? But why would that be?

OP posts:
CrotchBurn · 04/01/2021 14:09

@pointythings
And don't forget still calling people with disabilities "the handicappeds"!

HibernatingTill2030 · 04/01/2021 14:36

When was the poll from?
I would have answered no before the clinical studies were concluded etc. In fact, up until recently I was adamant or wavering. Then I changed my mind as I read more about it.

Comtesse · 04/01/2021 14:56

As of yesterday France had vaccinated 500 odd people in a week! Incredibly low compared to UK, Germany etc....

SoddingWeddings · 04/01/2021 14:56

@HibernatingTill2030
"The 15-country survey conducted December 17-20 among 13,500 adults on Ipsos’s Global Advisor online platform finds the highest levels of vaccination intent in China with 80% agreeing they would get a vaccine if it were available.

Among the other countries surveyed, intention to get vaccinated against COVID-19 is:

Fairly high in Brazil (78%), Mexico (77%), the U.K. (77%), Australia (75%), South Korea (75%), and Canada (71%);
Middling in the U.S. (69%); Germany (65%), Italy (62%), Spain (62%), and Japan (60%); but
Low in South Africa (53%), Russia (43%), and most of all, France (40%)."

They are still fuming that their Pasteur Institute didn't manage to get the vaccin out first and get all the glory.

Instead, it's a German-English victory, it's insulting! So they are convincing themselves something is wrong with it out if solidarity. It's the compatriote spirit. I expect it will change when it's finally properly roles out.

thatgingergirl · 04/01/2021 15:01

Comtesse - I was just reading about that! www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-55529240

stackemhigh · 04/01/2021 15:03

That’s terrible. My elderly mum is desperate for the vaccine as she has been shielding since March.

Presumably at some point we can stop the lockdowns trying to protect old and vulnerable people who refused to get the vaccine?

I don’t believe that for a second.

I am frequent reader of Mumsnet, and I know from my time here that only English people suffer this affliction, and it’s called being a ‘little Englander’

People from the continent are all tolerant and cool. Every last one.

I suggest you take your Daily fail scaremongering elsewhere. Good day.

stackemhigh · 04/01/2021 15:10

@dontdisturbmenow

How is it German-English victory? It was a German victory. Are you re-writing history a la Trump?
