To correct anyone who mispronounces my name?

Hi all,
I’m starting a new job soon; it’s a working from home/ remote working role. I’m based in N. Ireland and the rest of my new colleagues will be based in England so there will be lots of video calls etc with them. The way my first name is pronounced is generally different here than the rest of the UK. Would IBU to correct my new colleagues if they don’t get the way I say it right? (I find people from outside my region generally don’t). Not to be a dick about it either, the UK pronunciation is definitely the more well-known one, but it’s just not my name IYSWIM! I always try to be polite about it but still wonder if it comes across a bit precious/fussy, obviously want to make a good impression with new colleagues. Thoughts?

Definitely tell them how you want it pronounced when you first meet them and correct when needed too. My husband has a colleague who didn't and they only found out the correct pronunciation months after calling him the wrong name. Not only did they feel terrible but it was really hard to change old habits too!

A person I worked with was called Suzanne and everyone said Susan. It drove her potty

My cousin had this in reverse. She is Susan but is quite young for a Susan (30). People constantly call her Suzanne. I think they can't quite accept that a young person has such a granny/mumsy name (apologies to all Susans I have just offended- I think the name itself is nice!)

I also met a Suzan (pronounced Susan) on a course once. The z led people to think it was pronounced Suzanne, which is fairly logical I suppose.

I'm in Ireland and have never come across that tbh, though the similar sounding Eileen/Eibhlín (pronounced Eye-leen) is used as an Irish version of Helen, and Lena is used as a short form of Helena.

I frequently correct people when they mispronounce my name. Why would you answer to a name that isn't yours?

If you have an introductory zoom meeting/phone call then use it as a chance to say your name!

If you’re emailing a colleague for the first time, perhaps write it’s nice to virtually meet you, my name is ‘x’ (pronounced ‘y’).

It’ll be rubbish for you being called the wrong name... and a bit awkward when everyone figures it out too!
