To think people need to stop comparing the UK and New Zealand?

We have a population of 66.5 million, they have 4.9 million.

We have an area of 240,000 sq km, they have 270,000 sq km. (So less than 10% of the population in a bigger area).

Their biggest city has 1.5 million people. London has 9 million people. Their next biggest city, Christchurch, is smaller than Birmingham, Glasgow, Bristol, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds, Edinburgh and Leicester.

And they're 2000 miles from their nearest big neighbour. (Australia). We're joined onto one country (Ireland) and 2000 miles from London takes in all of Western Europe, Iceland, a good chunk of Eastern Europe and a bit of North Africa.

So can we stop with the silly comparisons now?

For the trillionth time it isn’t the result of 'outstanding leadership' it is the result of being incredibly isolated, on 2 islands with a 5m population with a 25 per sq mile density, as opposed to nearly 70m pop and ten times that density. You need to get over yourselves a bit, this crowing is in such bad taste.

You can argue about different circumstances etc, but New Zealand seems to have a competent Prime Minister, whereas in the UK our largest supported political party chose the worst option they had as leader. Jeremy Hunt, Matt Hancock, Michael Gove and Rory Stewart all would have acted quicker than Boris Johnson.

I think it’s perfectly fine to compare. It’s nothing to do with population density and proximity to Europe. Nothing. We are both island nations. End of. We should have done EXACTLY what the NZ PM did. No mucking around. She shut that shit down. End of. When we’ve got people in our population driving to FUCKING GATWICK during a Tier 4 and going FUCKING SKIING then you can shut your damn mouth about any of this. So yeah we should be comparing and arresting anybody going near an airport. Those places should have been shut on day one and patrolled by the godamn army in tanks as should every major town centre.

Absolutely it is outstanding leadership that is at the heart of New Zealand's success. Interesting that it's so difficult for some people to accept. You would do well to listen and learn rather than deny.

There you go. No one wants rules of enforcement of rules but the want to blame the government and take no responsibility Err....right..,,

I suspect many people who still work at airports, or travel through them as essential workers often helping to get PPE and heaven knows what into the UK might find being “compared” and arrested going to/from work a bit extreme.

@notimagain we’re not talking about essential workers getting PPE at airports are we. Get a grip. That’s a process that will be finely controlled and done properly as with all cargo coming into the country. We’re talking about wankers going to the airport and going on HOLIDAY. Anybody going near an airport without a work reason or key worker letter (my father has one so I know my stuff here) gets arrested and thrown in jail for the night. Done. Their passport is then confiscated for 30 days. Repeat until they get the fucking picture. We are at the highest levels of infection. The rest of the world is mocking us. Our kids are almost a year of homeschooling. I AM DONE. So yes we do a New Zealand right now. Lock this shit down like she did for 8 weeks. Most of the staff in my local supermarket tested positive. One of the teachers at our primary school DIED do you think this is a FUCKING JOKE?!?
