For thinking that people are naive to be taken in by celebrity PR

Reading several threads recently gushing about celebrities who are amazing and enlightened and doing so much good in the world world, apparently. Am I the only one who isn’t taken in my this nonsense and the image that celebrity PR machines create in order to make celebrities more likeable and bankable. Are people really that gullible that they can’t see past it and get taken in by it. Is everyone an armchair campaigner now, a few interviews, podcasts, do gooder tweets, turning up to Publicity events to ‘help’ the needy and they deserve a knighthood? Really?
Harry and Meghan, Marcus Rashford are few that spring to mind. Can no one else this is just marketing, and cheap talk. It makes them money, keeps them in the news and prolongs their talentless, flagging careers.

What are you doing to help child poverty OP? More than Marcus I assume.

@user1471565182

wasnt her dad OJ's lawyer?
He was a lawyer and also a close friend of OJ's, yes. He had let his legal license lapse though and "reactivated" it so he could serve as a volunteer assistant to OJ's criminal defense team. He was much more friend than lawyer.

ive read about it now and it was sneaky. He was probably involved in getting rid of some evidence in the OJ case but since he was one of the lawyers he couldnt be called as a witness.

Tell us who the horrid ones are then,bonnie

I agree with much of what you say about celebrity PR, but you’re absolutely wrong about Marcus Rashford.

First and most importantly, he is one of the best young strikers in the country. He plays for Manchester United and England because of his ability, not his off-field media profile. He genuinely comes from an underprivileged background, his mum was on on her own bringing up him and his siblings and United helped the family a lot. The work he has done on school meals is extremely important, he has forced significant concessions from government and helped a lot of families. He is an extremely impressive young man.

I’m sure he gets significant help from PR professionals behind the scenes. Some of his social media communications do not read like the typical output of a young footballer who left school at 16, but so what?

Marcus Rashford is amazing.Used his fame for a better world

CorianderBee · 05/01/2021 17:38

Influences people to do what? Donate to charity? Know about certain charities?

Imagine thinking a 23 year old had a flagging career!

Do you actually know who Marcus Rashford is OP?!?! Or have you just seen his name!

Talentless??!?! To get to the level Marcus is takes an a lot of the talent a lot of dedication from a very very young age.

Flagging career - yes op the whole world calls playing for the biggest company in your chosen industry being pretty much the top employee In that company and representing your country a flagging career yeeeeah oh wait - no they don’t!

He’s 23, even for a footballer no 23 years olds career should be labelled flagging!

But yeah sure he’s just done it for PR, and he hasn’t used his own money to fund Bolton free meals for months before he went to the government?!? Oh wait again actually what he did do yes! No one knew, didn’t stop him doing it. I’m sure that was soooooo cheap!

Can I ask what you’ve done apart from been so so so clever and written a post on an online forum that literally everyone has torn apart op?

Have you spent literally millions of your own money paying for free school meals?

Are you talented enough to represent your country in something that instills pride in many many people?

Or are you just here to show how much more intelligent you are then is dummies who are taken in by celebrity culture that you couldn’t be bothered to actually google Marcus rashford and are you just doing it because your bored on furlough?!?!

@user1471565182. Ha I never would.

The BBC doc about him explicitly shows him working with someone else on the school meals work he's done. He/they are clearly not afraid to show that he has help; and anyway, of course he does. You wouldn't think for a second, surely, that he (or any other sleb) does all their charity and awareness work on their own? Obviously they work with professionals.
