Much better than Hinch grey!

Thank you @Bluntness100, you sound lovely too.

Actually I'm not sure why I said I loathe white decor, it's not true (still not keen on grey though). One of my best friends has all white walls and it's stunning - paired with wooden floors, vintage furniture and colourful rugs and art works.

I think what I'm picking up on is that I'm clumsy and therefore constantly on edge in white houses, worrying I'm going to spill something!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 02/01/2021 23:23

Whereas in my house if I spill something I just move a piece of clutter to cover the stain. Wink

Northernsoullover · 02/01/2021 23:31

I don't like the trend of colour schemes. Not so much the walls. Just deciding that your room is going to be mustard one week so buying a mustard rug, mustard cushions, mustard coasters and lamps. My friend does this at least once a year. Duck egg was the last fad but all that got skipped. Its not so much the theme but the waste! When she's bored of the mustard that will go in the bin too. At least take it to the bloody charity shop!

StoneofDestiny · 02/01/2021 23:32

I've got white walls and lots of art on the walls - so it's perfect background. Soft furnishings bring splash of colour

@Bluntness100 - oh dear. I don't like to see old houses get the exterior grey treatment. There is a row of Georgian houses near me and one has recently had its old steps replaced with horrible dark grey tiles, gate posts painted grey, etc., but not all-over grey, thankfully.

I sometimes think my true calling was as a buildings conservation officer, mind, as I am mildly obsessed with this sort of thing.

I moved to a new build 2 months ago. Every thing is white. I hated it at 1st but now I love it. All nice and fresh. I told the hubby I am going to keep it white

I actually mistyped, it is a detached home, not semi detached, it is a very large and very beautiful brick house, but it’s now a very dull battle ship matt grey. Every single time I drive past it, I think “gosh that’s horrible” .

I’m also mildly obsessed, I live in an old listed building and love them. So I get that totally.

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 02/01/2021 23:41

Well YANBU to like what you like.

I hate it tbh. I only have one white wall in my house(even the storage cupboards are painted inside) and I massively resent it.Grin

But whatever floats your boat in your own house.

Saz12 · 02/01/2021 23:41

White is great if you CBA cutting in around ceiling/ wall. I’ve no idea how anyone has the patience for that with a dark colour? I’m not sure that counts as an aesthetic design-led decision though...

giantangryrooster · 03/01/2021 00:00

Well I'm Scandi, I don't get the explosions of crass colour, walls, curtains etc. Yellow especially Grin.

It is a ball ache,,you’re not wrong,,
TornadoOfSouls · 03/01/2021 11:40

I am going to avoid cutting in by painting the ceiling and walls the same colour in the next couple of rooms I do.

I’ve just finished painting a room with picture rail and cornice, DH insisted the cornice and ceiling mustn’t be the same shade of white, so I’ve had enough cutting in for a while Grin

I feel the Scandi idea of colour is devoid of warmth. Light apoears to be the objective but reflected on the inevitable snow piled up outside the windows, the effect is stark.
giantangryrooster · 03/01/2021 14:01

@Janegrey333
You are right it does look cold (we don't all have snow that much) Grin.

But, small rooms with lots of dark colours make it cave like imo.

Just goes to show how different we are and how much a product of our surroundings. Each to their own Smile.

Lavanderrose · 03/01/2021 14:17

I agree with OP, love white walls, there are so many different whites to choose from also. I also love blue and green. Hate grey, it makes rooms look cold, bleak and boring. If you watch dream home makeover on Netflix you’ll see how beautiful using white walls look.

Pinkfreesias · 03/01/2021 16:22

The house we've just moved in to is all white. While it's better than wall to wall grey, it is a bit boring. It is quite bright, though, which is a plus.

I'm looking forward to a spot of decorating, though. I like soft pinks, greens and pale yellows. I also like quite strong wallpapers, especially in red.

Bluntness100 · 03/01/2021 16:53

I’m not sure I’d agree all white is better than all grey, I think that’s personal taste.

I think all anything doesn’t work actually.
