As if life isn't hard enough, my DH is a bit of a conspiracy nut regarding covid. According to him the pandemic is nowhere near as bad as they make out, and it's all to do with agenda 30, depopulation and the great reset. To quote whoever said it "you'll have nothing and be happy". I know it's nonsense but it still scares me. He said we should prepare and that it's only the elite who will get by. We won't be allowed to own anything. Please reassure me and give me advice on how to respond. Surely the great reset doesn't mean anything too bad.

Does he usually suffer with his mental health? Weed or cocaine? Only because i know someone like this but they've fucked their brain with drugs.

Your DH is either an idiot, or suffering from some sort of mental illness.

hillarypcof · 01/01/2021 21:03

My Dad has a friend who believes in all this too. Something called the NESARA/GESARA movement or something like that ??? Apparently has a lot to do with Trump and how he will remain President and start the whole "reset" thing ... a load of cobblers to me but this theory has a scarily large following!!!!

EileenGC · 01/01/2021 21:05

OP I can't comment on the Great Reset topic because I don't have the time to read conspiracy theories, or translate perfectly reasonable articles into conspiracies.

But please tell your DH to go and explain this to all the people that have lost loved ones or are still suffering the long-term effects of Covid. I have a few in my family, if he struggles to find any.

According to him the pandemic is nowhere near as bad as they make out

I take it he hasn't lost any friends or relatives?

OP there are two fundamental flaws in conspiracy theory logic:

a) governments just aren't that good at organising stuff (as a previous poster has said) and they are incredibly bad at keeping it secret. There's just no way a conspiracy on this scale could be organised and kept silent.

b) it makes absolutely no sense for world governments to create or fuel a virus which is laying waste to their economies. Who do you think is paying for the bailouts? I can't understand how people can suggest that "elites" or anyone else are benefiting financially from this. It's patently obviously a disaster for absolutely everyone.

With respect as I understand you are in a difficult position and its probably not this simple, your husband is talking a blue streak of bollocks. I think you have to use whatever tactics you can just to shut him down. Long term, I'd honestly think about planning to leaving him too when you can. Who needs being attached to someone who deliberately spouts harmful untruths which fuel your anxiety?

Oh for Gods sake OP its bullshit. Fiction. On the same level as flat earth. (pun not intended)

If nothing else he at least needs to admit that our current government aren't savvy enough to conspire over anything. This lot couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery.

Schwab is a facist who’s been promulgating similar ideas for years.

Janonomouse · 02/01/2021 00:38

The Great Reset sounds good in principle, but unfortunately I don't think it'll happen. I expect short-term thinking will prevail once we're at the other side of the pandemic.
