To think bra fitting is an essential service?

I'm desperate for a bra fitting as I'm 26 weeks pregnant. I went to a branch of bravissimo a few months ago and they did a great job of socially distant bra fitting, they did it all by sight without coming near me. All the bras I tried on but didn't buy were quarantined for 72 hours.

I had planned for go again in January, as I didn't want to go to central London before Christmas, but now we're in tier 4.

I've never bought a bra without trying them on. Without being able to try them on, especially being pregnant, I've no idea where to start with buying one online.

A proper fitting bra is important for all women. I think bra shops should be open.

Can you live a full life without a perfectly fitting bra? Probably, yes.

Greysparkles · 01/01/2021 17:23

Never had a bra fitted in my life!

But I do own a tape measure 🤷🏼‍♂️

ChristmasUserName2020 · 01/01/2021 17:23

Not essential.

Moulesvinrouge1 · 01/01/2021 17:24

There are plenty of guides online as to how to measure yourself. I really don’t think it’s an essential service, sorry.

dementedpixie · 01/01/2021 17:24

Booborbust website and a tape measure should give an idea of size

BitOfANameChange · 01/01/2021 17:24

Given the size I am, I need properly fitting bras or I end up with backache, shoulderache, etc, that can take a long while to go away.

annevonkleve · 01/01/2021 17:24

Measure yourself and order online. It will be fine.

annevonkleve · 01/01/2021 17:25

Me too.
SmidgenofaPigeon · 01/01/2021 17:25

It’s not essential, no. Many women have survived in the past with a tape measure and returning bras that aren’t comfortable.

dementedpixie · 01/01/2021 17:27

I've been measured instore before at M&S. Unfortunately they are bad at measuring and I wore the wrong size for years. Measured myself and got bras that actually fit me now

22Giraffes · 01/01/2021 17:27

You will not die from an ill fitting bra fgs! if you only went a few months ago then you may be able to make a rough guess of the size you need, yes your size changed when pregnant so order a few sizes and send back what doesn't fit. To think it's an essential service and want people to go to work to provide it for you is ridiculous.

Nohomemadecandles · 01/01/2021 17:27

This is why we can't trust people to manage their own risk! Grin

Tape measure, t'interweb.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 01/01/2021 17:28

Yeah M&S were awful with me. Wore a 34B for years and years, went to Rigby and Peller as a wedding underwear treat and measured a 32D.

Sstarlight · 01/01/2021 17:28

Hahahaha.

CrystalMaisie · 01/01/2021 17:29

Bravissimo give great advice over the phone too. If you’ve already had a fitting there it’s a good starting point for size and shape of bra that suits. You can order and send back and reorder and only get charged p&p once.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 01/01/2021 17:29

Tape measure, excellent invention. Got me through 5 pregnancies.

Oooohbehave · 01/01/2021 17:29

Meanwhile cancer patients aren't getting the treatment they need. Measure your own boobs!

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 01/01/2021 17:32

Tape measure, buy a load online and then return.

monkeysox · 01/01/2021 17:32

Order a variety try on at home send back which don't fit.

daisypond · 01/01/2021 17:32

Not essential. I had surgery for breast cancer in the middle of the lockdown, and had to do without any bra fitting, or trying them on. None of my old ones fit me.

welshladywhois40 · 01/01/2021 17:37

I agree - I think while pregnant it actually is really tough to find comfy bras.

My local m and a lingerie department is still open (tier 4) as there is a food hall? I would see if you can find one that is open and pop down.

I have found there are some great fitters there who can advise on sight so you can get some guidance.

I needed new bras in early pregnancy and ended up buying tonnes and having to keep taking back. It was an absolute pain.

Heyahun · 01/01/2021 17:39

Yeah I’m struggling too tbh - I’m 32 weeks pregnant and il trying to get myself some decent nursing bras to put in my hospital bag - I’ve ordered loads of sizes online and none are right - no idea of my size - have sent them all back and am ordering more.

Also trying to order newborn baby clothes and bits online is really crap tbh! Cant see or touch any of it - loads of what’s arrived isn’t nice so I’m sending it back and starting again.

But i suppose these issues are annoying rather than an impossible task and I suppose having these shops/services available isn’t actually essential unfortunately!

My boobs are very uncomfortable though as all my bras don’t fit and the size is constantly changing. 😂

AntiHop · 01/01/2021 17:42

Thanks very much for all your comments.

So people don't think I'm being flippant. I've taken covid really seriously, not broken any rules, and been even more cautious than the rules allowed.

I don't work from home, so have to wear a bra. I'm really struggling with the discomfort of it. I have huge boobs so always wear underwire. It can be damaging to pregnant boobs to wear badly fitting underwire.

I'll call bravissimo next week.

ChestnutStuffing · 01/01/2021 17:43

Not really.

It's quite possible to learn how to fit a bra yourself. Though you can't do it just with measurements, you need to try it on.

Most online bra shops have good return policies.
