To think bra fitting is an essential service?

I'm desperate for a bra fitting as I'm 26 weeks pregnant. I went to a branch of bravissimo a few months ago and they did a great job of socially distant bra fitting, they did it all by sight without coming near me. All the bras I tried on but didn't buy were quarantined for 72 hours.

I had planned for go again in January, as I didn't want to go to central London before Christmas, but now we're in tier 4.

I've never bought a bra without trying them on. Without being able to try them on, especially being pregnant, I've no idea where to start with buying one online.

A proper fitting bra is important for all women. I think bra shops should be open.

Im 29 and never been properly measured 😱 to be fair I should get myself measured but 🤷‍♀️

strawberry2017 · 02/01/2021 17:52

@Nohomemadecandles sorry my mistake still In Tier 3!

Wanderdust · 02/01/2021 17:55

I'm dying to get fitted but only because I'm 17 weeks pregnant and getting uncomfortable! Resorting to buying online loads of different sizes (basically just guessing!) then returning what doesn't fit. I feel your pain!

Wanderdust · 02/01/2021 17:56

Sorry just read your whole post, yup, the only people who think you're unreasonable clearly aren't heavily pregnant! Smile

GirlCalledJames · 02/01/2021 18:01

The calculator on Reddit’s abrathatfits seems to get it right every time. I’ve had several different sizes recently, including 32K when my milk first came in, and it’s been dead on for each bra.
I wouldn’t buy a nursing bra before the milk comes in, though. I would have been 4 sizes out if I had. I got sleep bras and went home from the hospital in a sports bra, and ordered them then. The prices they charge for the larger cup sizes mean you can’t afford to make a mistake.

Proudboomer · 02/01/2021 18:01

During the last lockdown I was desperate for some new bras. I usually wear underwired and go to M&S for them.
Out of desperation I bought these
direct.asda.com/george/women/lingerie/bras/black-lace-top-insert-non-wired-cami-bra/GEM771127,default,pd.html?cgid=D1M18G2C1
When shopping in Asda.
They are just so comfy and give the same support as an underwired bra.
At a fraction of what I was paying.

ssd · 02/01/2021 18:02

If you are pregnant, dont wear wired bras, get non wired. Royce and triumph do good non wired. Get the tape measure and measure under your bust, where the band would be if you had a bra on. Keep the tape measure fairly tight. You will be surprised as you might be smaller than you think eg. Lots of 36c ladies should be in a 34. Anyway the inches on the tape measure are the 32,34,36 bit.
Guessing the b,c,d,e etc but is harder. Basically go by what you are wearing but adjust it by back size (the tape measure size). If you are wearing a 36d but measure 34 you'll be a 34dd. If you wear a 36d but measure a 38 you'll be a 38c. If you go up a band size you come down in the cup. If you go down a band size you go up a cup size. Cups go b,c,d,dd,e,f,ff,g,egg,h,hh,i,j..

I hope this helps anyone, pm me if you need more help.

ssd · 02/01/2021 18:06

Non wired bras in asda, sainsbury's etc will do as well, dont spend a fortune if you cant afford it. And if you treat yourself to matching pants, remember most places take bras back but pants are always non returnable. Always check the returns policy.

I dont think this is unreasonable and was just saying this to my friends last night. I am 15 weeks pregnant, usually a 28FF at bravissimo. I have ordered many styles in many sizes from there and HotMilk to try and none have been right. The HotMilk temptation bra has fit me the best so far but it has flexi-wires so if you don't want wires then I'm also wearing the bravissimo lounge bra, but thats not for nursing. Both only come in black so I can't wear a white t-shirt or light shirt to work now. I really feel for you, and think perhaps there's a difference in understanding between those who usually have to use specialist bra shops and those who don't. If you get your C measurement slightly wrong what will happen? If I get my now G measurement wrong its extremely uncomfortable! Good luck with finding the perfect fit.

I'm a 34K. It's not an essential service.
Branleuse · 03/01/2021 10:19

I think maybe go to asda or sainsburies online and look at their maternity bras.
If your last bras that were ok were 38E, then id order a 38f, 38g, 40f and 40g, and return what doesnt feel good. Non-wired will have more leeway for not ideal fitting than wired. The only thing youll lose is maybe the shape, but its winter, baggy jumpers and lockdown, so not a big deal.
If you were going for molke, id go for a large super

dementedpixie · 03/01/2021 10:22

Did you forget the FF cup?

Saylethewayles · 03/01/2021 10:28

Another vote for molke. I'm a 34H and don't wear anything else now.

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/01/2021 10:37

Personally I didn't get on with Molke at all. Found them uncomfortable to get on, almost impossible to get off, andI didn't like the shape.

Almostslimjim · 03/01/2021 10:39

YABU. You can measure and fit very well at home using boob or bust. If worried about mastitis or blocked ducts, wear soft cup, crop top styles until 12 weeks when your milk will be more settled.

Branleuse · 03/01/2021 10:42

@dementedpixie

Did you forget the FF cup?
Im not sure they do ff in supermarkets. Ive seen them jump from f to g
SinkGirl · 03/01/2021 10:44

I did the boob or bust calculator and ordered a few styles in two sizes online from bravissimo and returned what didn’t fit.

In pregnancy I couldn’t tolerate underwrites and basically lived in bravissimo sleep bras, and wear them most of the time ever since. I’m a 34F, or 36E depending on the bra, not the 40B that M&S put me in!

Blando · 03/01/2021 11:02

@Nomaigai are you pregnant? Good for you that you know what size you are. I havent a clue. Every style I have tried fits differently.

Yeahnahmum · 03/01/2021 11:11

Jezus christ. How areyou for real... that is just plain right rediculous...

Saylethewayles · 03/01/2021 11:21

Personally I didn't get on with Molke at all. Found them uncomfortable to get on, almost impossible to get off, andI didn't like the shape.

And I didn't get on with boob or bust as I physically can't bear my band being that tight, regardless of what cup size I try. OP will never know unless she tries Smile for my personally despite my huge norks I will never go back to underwired bras.

Blando · 03/01/2021 11:37

@wanderdust true!!! Grin its not an essential service if you know your bra size. If your size seems to change on a weekly basis its quite a challenge haha.

Nomaigai · 03/01/2021 14:13
@Nomaigai are you pregnant? Good for you that you know what size you are. I havent a clue. Every style I have tried fits differently.
I'm not pregnant but I went through two pregnancy in a country where bras had to be ordered from overseas. Plus I've been ordering from bravissimo since we'll before they had stores! Every style does fit differently but there are guides online and you just keep trying. Yes it's great to have a fitting but it's not essential.

Nomaigai · 03/01/2021 14:13

pregnancies well

pinfloy · 03/01/2021 14:30

I'm hoping my current bras last until trying them on is a possibility again. Based on past experience, I'd need to spend a grand on bras in various sizes to find one that fits!

movingonup20 · 03/01/2021 14:33

Buy a tape measure and wait until 38 weeks, later is better. It's not essential, it's a nice extra like a personal shopper consultant
