Sister selling DS furniture

I'm quite upset about this. I sold my DS bedroom furniture to my sister 2 days ago. It's in excellent condition and it wasn't cheap when we first brought it, it's a good quality brand.
I'd sent her pics of the furniture before came to collect it so she knew what it was like. I only charged her 50 for the toddler bed/mattress and chest of draws.

I had a notification like night on my phone to say my sister had listed these items on the marketplace on social media. She's put the price on for £180. She didn't tell me she didn't want them, or unhappy about them.
I know it's now hers to do what she wants but 1) surely you would mention it to me first and as politeness say its not quite right I'm going to sell and 2) why is she charging so much more money. I feel like she's making a profit out of my kindness to charge her hardly anything for it because she's my sister.

Aibu to be upset about this?

I agree with you that it's out of order. But everyone on here, even me to some degree, will
tell you that you sold the furniture (not 'gave') to her so it's hers to do with what she wishes.

AllHallowsEve14 · 01/01/2021 09:32

YANBU. As you said it is hers to do with what she wants but this still wouldn't sit right with me.

ChazP · 01/01/2021 09:33

She only had them for 2 days before she stuck them up for sale for massively more than she paid you? YANBU. She’s a CF.

Scolha · 01/01/2021 09:35

Yanbu.
Just ask her why she thinks it’s okay to do this?
She’ll probably just say she’s desperate for the money after Christmas.

Scolha · 01/01/2021 09:38

& explain that you sold it to her at a discount out of kindness because she thought she would get use of it.
You didn’t sell it to her so she could make a profit.

FamilyOfAliens · 01/01/2021 09:38

It is up to her - technically, once she bought them from you they were hers to do as she saw fit. But I also think it’s incredibly rude to do that. She should have said they weren’t what she wanted and returned them to you for a refund.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 01/01/2021 09:43

Rude of her.
I presume you won't be gifting/passing anything else on cheaply to her anytime soon.

MsVestibule · 01/01/2021 09:48

I would be really annoyed by this! If she sold them after your DN had used them for a couple of years, fair enough, but not after 2 days.

I'd screenshot it, send it to her and say 'I sold these to you at a discount because you're my sister, not so you could sell them on to make a profit! Please return them and I'll give you the £50 back.'

Is she normally this cheeky?

44PumpLane · 01/01/2021 09:51

Comment on the listing "oh is this the stuff I flogged you for £50 the other day" thus guaranteeing Noone else will buy it!

However, on a more serious note I agree with others, call her out and tell her you only sold it to her at a discount as you thought she really needed it and it's really underhand of her to be flogging it so quickly.

BakedBeeeen · 01/01/2021 09:53

That’s really not on. It’s your sister!! I’d be boiling mad about it too OP...

TerribleCustomerCervix · 01/01/2021 09:54

I’d just send her a screenshot and “What the fuck?”

Imiss2019 · 01/01/2021 09:54

Yeah I think that’s really bad personally. Had a friend who did something similar with a free item we gave them.

DENGREEN · 01/01/2021 09:55

I would have been angry, too but I agree that once something is sold the buyer can do what they like. Has she actually sold them yet for £180?
If you don’t mind my asking - how much was the furniture originally?

Longtalljosie · 01/01/2021 09:55

Contact her and tell her you’ve seen the advert

Angeldust747 · 01/01/2021 09:56

After she has used them for a good amount of time and no longer needs them then YABU, but 2 days?! She's a CF

Coffeekisses · 01/01/2021 09:56

It’s cheeky but she won’t get £180 for them! Toddler beds are almost impossible to rehome.

daisypond · 01/01/2021 09:57

That is not on. Very cheeky of her.

Emeraldshamrock · 01/01/2021 09:57

Does she even have a toddler? Yanbu she is a c.f. I'd screen shot the advertisements and give her a verbal red ear.
Lesson learned don't give her anything again.

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 01/01/2021 09:58

She's taking the piss out of you - I'd call her out on it. What a CF!

If she'd used the items for a few years, then sold them on when she didn't need them, that would be fine. But she bought them from you cheap (she knows she got family rates) knowing full well that she was planning to sell them for a profit.

Caterinaballerina · 01/01/2021 09:58

I actually doubt she will get that, second hand kids furniture is usually quite widely available which seems to limit the prices you can charge so whether you say anything or not this is likely to backfire on her.

TeachesOfPeaches · 01/01/2021 09:58

I wouldn't dream of charging my own sister for my child's old stuff so for that YABU

TerribleCustomerCervix · 01/01/2021 10:01

Also this.

You can get a toddler bed and chest of drawers from Ikea for less than £80- unless there’s major upcycling potential for them, no one in their right mind will be paying the guys of £200 for second hand.

BareGrylls · 01/01/2021 10:06

You sold unwanted stuff to family? That seems a bet mean to me.

SoftSheen · 01/01/2021 10:06

YANBU!

CakeRequired · 01/01/2021 10:07

I would actually do this. Cheeky cow. Never sell her anything again.
