Person on FB marketplace is trying to sell individual sections of wood train track for £1 each. Some of which have kids felt tip scribbles all over it?

The whole lot would be around £20

I can buy a 60piece brand new set for £12 Confused

Plus these beautiful pieces are surrounded by complete sets at around £7

It does make me laugh when I see people selling things that are the same price or cheaper for brand new!

Janaih · 31/12/2020 17:44

I frequently congratulate myself for resisting the urge to comment "ha you'll be lucky!" on Facebook marketplace items.

DdraigGoch · 31/12/2020 17:44

I'm sure that there is some gullible mug out there who would be taken in by that.

Bracknellite · 31/12/2020 17:50

I’m thinking of taking up the guitar.

Argos are selling a guitar, with a stand and some other bits for £60.

Someone selling just the (same) guitar on fb for £55

londongirl12 · 31/12/2020 17:53

I once saw a pair of girls leggings for sale on there, £1, the description said "need a wash". 🤦🏻‍♀️

Soubriquet · 31/12/2020 17:56

It’s bizarre how some people price things.

It’s like, just because they are charging £5/£10 cheaper, it’s so better to get it from them second hand, then it would be to get it brand new where you’re covered if something goes wrong

SnooperTrooper12345 · 31/12/2020 18:02

I've seen so many people sell things from IKEA especially with prices above what it costs brand new! Saw somebody selling a Kallax Shelving unit for £100. It's 45 brand new!

Rockbird · 31/12/2020 18:06

I'm looking for an iPad for dd2's birthday. I don't really want to pay for a new one but people are selling 4 and 5 year old iPads for £50 less than a brand new one. Sod that!

Janaih · 31/12/2020 18:31

@Rockbird try CEX. They test them thoroughly and guarantee for 24 months.

ChikiTIKI · 31/12/2020 18:32

I agree totally

... Apart from I would probably be willing to pay close to or slightly over retail price for some IKEA furniture if someone else had spend all those hours putting it together already, if it was in great condition. A wardrobe with loads of drawers inside or something like that.

ChikiTIKI · 31/12/2020 18:32

Also means I wouldn't have to go through IKEA!

Have you looked on groupon or wowcher? I have seen them advertise iPads cheaper on one of those. Has anyone bought off them, are they any good?

Our local town page often has chancers scalping and selling utter shite....they're called out straight away

Fair point , however, transportation is an issue, and sometimes they need taking apart!

If people are too stupid to realise that it’s a rip off then so be it tbh

Check Apple's refurbished, they are given a new battery and fully guaranteed, can get some really good deals.
BlusteryLake · 31/12/2020 19:09

I think people tend to anchor their asking price to how much it costs new, without considering that diffent things devalue in different ways. Having said that, though, I am often surprised when I lose out on an Ebay auction, how close to the new price people are prepared to go.

InFiveMins · 31/12/2020 19:11

The best are consoles like Nintendo switches - being sold for about £20 less than new - it's not worth the risk buying something to save £20 that might be faulty when you could pay the extra £20 and get a warranty etc.

strawberry2017 · 31/12/2020 19:11

Out of curiosity what would you suggest is a good price for a double divan with 4 draws that's in great condition? X

leavethelightson · 31/12/2020 19:15

I've just seen a post with someone selling a bike 'used a few times but probably too small' stating that it is still selling in Argos with a screenshot from the Argos website showing it for sale at £149 and asking for £150

Why would you ever pay more (even a pound) for something used you could still buy for cheaper?! 🤯

cansu · 31/12/2020 19:18

I saw someone selling a used top on ebay. It was OK but it certainly wasn't brand new; she wanted 40.00 on buy it now. It probably cost 60.00 new from Boden. Why do people expect so much back? I find it very odd. I might have paid 25.00 - 30.00 max but certainly not 40.00.

delilahbucket · 31/12/2020 19:20

Yet I saw someone selling a pair of brand new Louboutins today that they apparently paid £545 for, and they only wanted £180. I couldn't help but think they absolutely must be fake at that price.

Haggertyjane · 31/12/2020 19:31

Our Village freecycle page is full of fabulous items, like tumble dryers, beautiful pristine toys, perfect river island handbags etc.

I think we'd all be too ashamed to put crap on

Almostslimjim · 31/12/2020 19:31

I have an acquaintance who does this. If something cost her £20 and it's used with tags on she'll want £18 for it, and for you to collect it. Despite it being something people are happy to accept 2nd hand, good used condition and pay £5. She wonders why she never sells anything.

I wanted a onesie for my son, she had a used one be for £15 (shed paid £20 for it) when I could buy a new one for £8 (sale plus NHS discount). She got really offended when I pointed it out.

She's weird.

@Bracknellite hi girl! Don’t buy a guitar from Argos or anything too cheap. Go to a music shop and get a decent guitar and ask for one with “the action low”. If you get a horrid Argos guitar or another one with high action (the strings far away from the neck so you have to push REALLY hard) you will be inclined to quit as it’s so painful and seems impossible. Just some friendly advice from a guitarist of 25 years x
