Person on FB marketplace is trying to sell individual sections of wood train track for £1 each. Some of which have kids felt tip scribbles all over it?

The whole lot would be around £20

I can buy a 60piece brand new set for £12 Confused

Plus these beautiful pieces are surrounded by complete sets at around £7

I don’t understand why this bothers anyone. Either the seller won’t sell the item, or they will. You obviously don’t have to buy it.
I buy quite a lot of secondhand things, and just ignore the items that are overpriced. Maybe they are happy to wait until they find a buyer prepared to pay the amount they want, or maybe they are expecting people to offer a lot less. It’s the same when people moan that charity shops are too expensive... they are not there to provide cheap clothes for people, they are there to make money for a charity, and they are free to do so however they see fit.

notinthiseconomy · 31/12/2020 19:37

I saw someone selling a pair of shoes. Post mentions she's worn them. And also that she wants what she initially paid for them...

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 31/12/2020 19:42

Or when they say free but must collect today or its going to the dump ( yes because the dump Is where it belongs as its broken )

Soubriquet · 31/12/2020 19:43

What about when they want money for them OR it’s going to the dump...

Well give them away for free then!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 31/12/2020 19:53

Ours gets a fair few sofas for silly money. They're only a year old, just changing decoration and they 'need gone' by Tuesday.
You do wonder who'd going to pay all that and collect it and who buys a new sofa to fit their decoration?

00100001 · 31/12/2020 20:16

@strawberry2017

Out of curiosity what would you suggest is a good price for a double divan with 4 draws that's in great condition? X
I'd look around in FB see what the going price is.

You can't give furniture away round our way though... Noone will take old sofas/beds etc

Tables/chairs/bookcases etc. are fine

I don't think people do buy them tbh.

Loads of sofa ones here. I just sold ours, immaculate for 80. Friend of a friend is selling same one for.........800Shock

cataclysmiclife · 31/12/2020 20:23

I've just got a fantastic leather sofa off fb marketplace but it was £250 but well worth it. Some people put absolute rubbish on just so someone will take them away and save them the bother! They don't account for the cost of a van hire at £40 on top too!

I tend to not sell. I give away. I gave away a full size baby cradle yesterday that I bought new for my 6 year old to have for her dolls. She now has a moses basket instead. I'm trying to get rid of a bed currently Grin I give stuff away as I dont think you can expect someone to pay for something you do not want

Theunamedcat · 31/12/2020 20:40

I like our waste exchange i swapped a new Christmas shirt for a bar of chocolate

Moonsbury · 31/12/2020 20:50

Conversely, people want something in brand new condition for next to no money.
Some CF said to me she'd like my item, but her CF husband had a rule that he doesn't pay more than half price for anything second hand, and to let
Her know when I'd lowered my price!
It was brand new , sealed in box, not an item that would age- just too long to take it back. 🤣

Dastardlythefriendlymutt · 31/12/2020 21:02

🤣🤣🤣

D4rwin · 31/12/2020 21:06

Brand new in a box / with tags I won't buy either as you know it's just been stolen to fund their drug habit Grin

Baws · 01/01/2021 00:36

I recently saw a school blazer that was no longer uniform for the school in question about 4 years ago and someone else selling used lamp shades for £10 when you could pick up identical ones in Home Bargains for about £3! 😳😂

chuffoff · 01/01/2021 00:41

I know of someone that listed two used baby's dummies for 50p each

JiltedJohnsJulie · 01/01/2021 00:50

I've been know you sell things BNWT and it's definitely not to fund a drugs habit, unless that habit is tea.

The last time I did this I'd bought a top for work that was labelled up as one size in the sale but when I got it home it was a bigger size.

Spasiba · 01/01/2021 01:04

"Need gone". That expression really grates.
And it's always the overpriced items.

SendHelp30 · 01/01/2021 01:11

@chuffoff 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Misskittyfantastico85 · 01/01/2021 06:38

An acquaintance if mine was 'selling' an iPhone 6 empty box for £10 before Christmas. She got absolutely slated on our local buy and sell.

Turns out, she had actually bought it for £10 to put her daughters iPhone in as a Christmas present, but she managed to find one secondhand with a box. So there are people out there that will pay these silly prices.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 01/01/2021 06:54

I know several people who buy expensive brands that they can only afford if they can sell it on for at least 50% of what they have paid for it new.

One girl I know constantly grumbles to me of people being cheeky and asking her if she will accept less than her ludicrous asking prices.

The thing is, she does manage to sell things but puts a huge amount of time into it, lists stuff on loads of pages etc.she will also go driving miles to deliver stuff to the mugs who accept her prices.

I dont think it occurs to her that for the time she puts in she could work shifts at Tescos and make more money.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 01/01/2021 07:03

her CF husband had a rule that he doesn't pay more than half price for anything second hand

I have this rule. I wouldnt have bothered messaging you though just would have ignored whatever you were selling at the price.

I won't pay more than 50% of the new value because to me it doesnt make sense that you get to have owned and used it in brand new condition, with the benefit of all the warranties etc, and I end up spending more than you to own and use it in worse condition without the warranties etc.

That's just my choice.

PurBal · 01/01/2021 07:11

We have a neighbourhood WhatsApp group and whilst a lot of the stuff is free it's just the same. Table without legs, vacuum cleaner that doesn't work, airbed with a puncture. It's just stuff noone can be bothered to take to the tip.

lyinginthegutterstaringatstars · 01/01/2021 07:17

Oh yes I know what you mean. I recently came across a second hand scandi top with a glue stain for a baby for £60. Very trendy label and design but I did laugh to myself

Another mum selling a wooden climb on ladder type thing for £200 and yes I laughed to myself again
