To have bought a skirt that will drive me insane?

Browsing New Look sales for some maternity clothes - I'm 30 weeks and even my maternity jeans will probably get uncomfortable soon. Spotted a nice ribbed blue midi skirt - perfect.

Bought it and then immediately realised I've exactly the same model, only none maternity and grey shoved to the back of my drawer. Reason being that it clung to my tights and constantly rode up.

Aside from cancelling, what else can I do? Am I bound to the skirt from hell or am I missing a skirt wearing trick here?! How do others wear these?!
@FolkyFoxFace I had the ones from Jojo, only because I ordered pretty much every pair under the sun and they were the only ones which suited my shape. I bloody love them, I had two pairs through my first pregnancy and ended up with a third for my second. Now four months pp and wondering about buying another pair because it's so much nicer not to have to wear a belt with jeans!
Thank you! I've looked at JoJo but was wary after my foray into Seraphine. Bought their leggings expecting angels to dance around my thighs but it was not to be! For some reason I lumped JoJo into the same box because of some of the hype. I'll give them a go!

@FolkyFoxFace I always do it when I have them on so I can see where I am zapping myself 😂 I had to do it with my dance leotards round my bum so it didn't disappear and so I didn't look like I had a hungry bum.

BashfulClam · 30/12/2020 23:16

@Dahlietta

Why would you not just go without tights...?
Because it’s freezing. -4c where I am.

@kwiksavenofrillsusername

I used to do the hairspray trick too, a spritz on your legs or tights should do it. Also, I've bought a few items that have arrived quite staticky (thanks, cheapo online shops!) and found that washing them with loads of fabric conditioner can make them a bit less clingy and annoying.

Although if it's lockdown, I'd just say fuck it and wear massive maternity leggings all day every day.

Thanks! Think I'll wash and soften it before I do anything. Give the buggers a chance before I assault them. 😂

I've been living in giant fluffy maternity lounge pants for weeks, so leggings would actually be a step up to be fair. 😂

That's an image that made me chuckle! 😂 Excellent - I'll make sure to do it in the full length mirror so I can have a good laugh at myself as I spray!

Wear a slip or underskirt and use fabric conditioner in the rinse when washing both slip and skirt.

rollinggreenhills · 30/12/2020 23:28

Don't ask me why, but slips work better when you wear them inside out. Weird, but true.

VenusTiger · 30/12/2020 23:38

I've been wearing underskirts for about 15yrs OP - my mom has always, always worn them and I used to think they were just an old fashioned thing - then I realised why she wears them - stops skirts sticking to your tights.

BaronessBomburst · 30/12/2020 23:51

A slip makes everything hang better and smooths out wobbly bits and VPLs. I don't wear anything without one.
Well, except jeans. I don't wear a slip with jeans.

Randomly, I loved Peacocks Maternity Jeans, they are lovely and soft!

Hairspray!

phoolani · 31/12/2020 00:10

Have you tried wool-based tights? Jersey will rub with normal opaques but not with the woolly ones. I’ve no idea if they’re wool, I’m just trying to explain that generally a wool skirt will attract with the woolier-type tights, jersey with the jersey type. If you mix, it resolves the problem. Generally!

WagnersFourthSymphony · 31/12/2020 00:16

I saw the title in the Trending Now sidebar, truncated to "To have bought a skirt that will drive m..." and guessed "will drive men wild" Grin Blush

... but yes, a good slip - or hairspray - should do the trick. Slips went out of fashion with v v short skirts and tight skirts and people thinking they were old-fashioned, but they make things drape well. (Not that I've worn a skirt for years, mind you.)

RacheyCat · 31/12/2020 08:19

I just rub lotion into my tights once they're on. Keep a little bottle of hand lotion in my handbag too, just in case the static cling strikes while I'm out.

Nunoftheother · 31/12/2020 19:13

only none maternity

What does this mean?

FolkyFoxFace · 31/12/2020 20:10

Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions! I've stocked up on some of the mentioned items, and I'm waiting impatiently for the garment in question to arrive. 😂 I do have a nice pair of wool tights, so I'll give them a shot too!

@nunoftheother - I mean I've got another skirt that's exactly the same as the one I've ordered, the only difference is its grey and not a maternity skirt like this one.

Oh, I see - you mean another skirt, only non-maternity. "None maternity" means you don't have any skirts that are maternity!

Yes, I know! I'm actually an English lecturer but unfortunately my phone doesn't like to recognise that! 😂

It's fine! I blame MN for not having an "edit" feature. 😂

A petticoat will do the job perfectly

byebyeboyee · 31/12/2020 21:14

Have you checked the inside lining of the jeans min had a little button so you could expand the elastic.... Did not realize until after I gave birth 😅
