I know it's not yet NYE, but I have been stuck in the house several days. I can drink some tonight, and some tomorrow! (It will retain its fizz enough to last... the old fork trick!)

it's all I had in the house...

We're having a magnum of champagne between the two of us tomorrow. You could open yours and then not store it in the fridge, just pop it back in before you need a cold glass tomorrow.

LimitIsUp · 30/12/2020 23:49

I find it stays bubbly for one night in the fridge even without a fork

RumJerrySailorRum · 30/12/2020 23:54

I see Nanny beat me to it 're keeping it outside to say chilled.

I use a spoon rather than a fork, less likely to cause myself an injury with a spoon.
Yes, I have been drunk before now and stabbed myself with a fork!!

RumJerrySailorRum · 30/12/2020 23:55

*stay chilled ffs

DDiva · 30/12/2020 23:59

@Thankssomuch

Pop some sloe gin in there too - cheers! 👍
Oooo Sloe gin and champagne is that a thing ? We have some 2yr old homemade aloe gin we are yet to sample, might have to try it tomorrow......

For future reference, you can buy bottle stoppers for champagne/prosecco/cava. They have a rubber bit that seals the top of the bottle and then two side flaps hook onto the rim lip to keep in place when the pressure builds.

Teddy1970 · 31/12/2020 01:16

Go for it, I've used a spoon in mine before and it's worked, put the bottle outside to keep it chilled...it's freezing tonight!

FromEden · 31/12/2020 01:20

I love champagne so much I would definitely inadvertently end up drinking the entire magnum and wake up with a very sore head in the morning Grin

Yanbu. Enjoy!

NannyGythaOgg · 31/12/2020 01:52

A 'normal' celebratory night with my 2 adult kids involves a minimum of 2 bottle (or a magnum) each - and then often another one is stolen by the elves.

Not an early get up the next day though.

I dread to think what would happen if we had gin fizzes on one of those nights

It most certainly is a thing dDiva - it’s called a ‘Sloegasm’ 😀

You Can put a plastic bag / tin foil over the top and secure with a rubber band or even hair band make sure its tight works on all my open bottles of fizz ..as I like extremely fizzy !

Audreyseyebrows · 31/12/2020 12:30

I don’t understand how you would have any left after opening? Grin

DryHeave · 31/12/2020 12:32

You don’t need a fork/spoon. The fizz cones from fermentation not carbonisation down it lasts a few days.

Spacecudet · 31/12/2020 19:23

Just opened my own magnum, may it last me till midnight. Cheers

BigSandyBalls2015 · 31/12/2020 19:29

I’ve just opened our prossecco magnum 🥂🎉

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 31/12/2020 20:02

Fork/spoon trick is a myth. However, if you keep it cold it will retain the fizz. Put it in the fridge between glasses (and YANBU)!

openallthetime · 31/12/2020 22:49

Cheers everyone! Enjoy the magnums!! Mine wasn't quite as nice as I anticipated (that slightly yeasty smell that some champagnes have that I am not so keen on) so I still have half left for midnight tonight! lol.

Happy new year. :)
