Husband refusing test

Interestinglyenough1 · 30/12/2020 21:11

Husband has gone to his sisters two days ago, she recently became a widow and has him in her support bubble.

Due back tomorrow, he tells me he has body aches and a very bad headache and has been making himself hot drinks to feel better. As he’s not the type to complain this has alarmed me.

AIBU asking him to get a test before he returns home? Or being hysterical. I am vulnerable with underlying conditions.

If he has a lurgy, any lurgy I'd be tempted to get him to stay where he is anyway. Test or no test.

Why invite illness into the house if there's a choice?

Dipankrispaneven · 30/12/2020 22:34

@RedMarauder

Even if he gets a test he won't get the results until he's home with you. Results can take up to 5 days.
Or more - it was just over six days in my case.

@Locationunknown

has him in her support bubble

What do you mean by this? He can't be in her bubble as he is not a single person.

She could be in his bubble if she is not mixing with any other bubbles.

The way you've worded it sounds like she has various people supporting her which would mean lots of different people popping in and out. Therefore lots more people could be infected and passing it on.

What do you mean by this? He can't be in her bubble as he is not a single person.

If she's a single person, she can have a support bubble with another household. It doesn't matter that OP's DH is married.

Headache and body aches are definitely COVID symptoms. He should have a test.

Gunpowder · 30/12/2020 22:35

For the future it’s quite good to report on the Zoe app as it almost always asks you to get tested for symptoms like this (i.e not the top three ones); so you can get tested without having to feel guilty.

I hope he gets tested and it’s negative OP.

LittleBearPad · 30/12/2020 22:36

Results are about 36 hours at the mo. Lots of recent experience worse luck

Dipankrispaneven · 30/12/2020 22:37

@rookgizzardpie

he shouldn’t get a test if he doesn’t have Covid symptoms...
Define Covid symptoms. I have tested positive, but I do not have a temperature, my sense of taste and smell are OK, and I do not have a continuous cough. What I do have is a runny nose, light-headedness, miscellaneous aches and pains, and generally feeling really tired. The NHS is doing no-one any favours by insisting that only the standard three indicators are symptoms.
TibetanTerrier · 30/12/2020 22:38

People with the new variant are complaining of the symptoms your DH has, in particular a very bad headache.

Catsneezies · 30/12/2020 22:39

They need to update the symptoms required to get a test. I don't understand why they are being so slow to do this when there is so much evidence of people testing positive without the three so-called main symptoms.

Catsneezies · 30/12/2020 22:41

It is fuelling the pandemic because people are going around without the three symptoms saying they can't possibly have covid when they actually do.

Interestinglyenough1 · 30/12/2020 22:41

Yes I agree with you all hence why ive said to him today to prepare to get tested.

I feel like the symptoms haven’t been updated on purpose so numbers aren’t truly reflected.

Houseplantmad · 30/12/2020 22:45

He must get a test. We have all tested positive today and have none of the three symptoms but instead have the worst aches, sore throat, nausea and migraines. We drew our own conclusion and got tested. It's horrific. DH has developed the cough today. We went down with it on Christmas Day and I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

You do NOT have to have symptoms to be tested.

MrsBlobby43 · 30/12/2020 22:45

I only had a headache and body ache and I was still positive. Same for my husband. Track and trace say headache and body aches are now the main symptoms.

Interestinglyenough1 · 30/12/2020 22:46

Gosh sorry to hear that @Houseplantmad

Thank you for sharing and wishing you all a speedy recovery Flowers

Houseplantmad · 30/12/2020 22:46

Be warned, the testing system is creaking. Our results took five days.

Interestinglyenough1 · 30/12/2020 22:50

@Houseplantmad he will just have to wait Sad

Timeforredwine · 30/12/2020 22:52

Could you tell me where it says headache and body aches or runny nose as symptom please? I've checked my covid app but still posts just same 3 original symptoms. Thanks.

movingonup20 · 30/12/2020 22:56

If he went to his sisters two days ago he didn't catch it there and may have been infectious before he went as it 48 hours before onset of symptoms. That said the vague symptoms are likely as not to be a normal cold.

Houseplantmad · 30/12/2020 23:02

DH spoke to a doctor on 111 today as we were concerned re his oxygen levels and he too said body aches etc seem to show themselves first more in the variant, rather than the traditional symptoms.

GabsAlot · 30/12/2020 23:03

youre no bu op-he cant possibly know he hasnt got it-thres all different symptoms noted not just the 3 to get a test and some people are asymptomatic so dont even know theyre carrying it

MaryLeeOnHigh · 30/12/2020 23:04

It has them on the Zoe app.
sunshineonasunnyday · 30/12/2020 23:07

I didn’t have covid symptoms but I tested positive!! Tests were being offered to all those with children of secondary school age and we were encouraged to take one. I’m glad I did!!

sleepylittlebunnies · 30/12/2020 23:12

My brother in law had a test Christmas Eve because he couldn’t smell or taste as well as normal, my sister suspected it was to get out of hosting relatives on Christmas Day as he was drinking expensive booze still. It came back positive on Boxing Day. He now has aches and flu type symptoms but no cough or temp.

I’d get him tested, I might also isolate my own household if he may have been infectious before he went.

Travis1 · 30/12/2020 23:14

Yup I’ve had two friends test positive in the last ten days, Botha main starter symptoms were headache and general aches and the pains, I’d definitely want your dh tested

Winterwoollies · 30/12/2020 23:18

The symptoms for a test REALLY need to be updated. My friend had nothing except a very mild but relentless headache behind her eyes and tiredness. She is routinely tested for work and had a big fat positive result.
