Completely random. Not usually fussed on NYE anyway so restrictions really make no difference to us anyway.

But do you feel it’s important to stay up and see the new year in?

I’m usually fast asleep by midnight 🤣 staying up will make me tired and grumpy the next day. Plus partner is on an early shift tomorrow leaving the house at 5am tomorrow so don’t think he’ll make it to midnight.

So aibu to just go to bed and sleep through til 2021? It’s not like there’s much to celebrate this year but I was thinking maybe we should see such a s**t year out.

To add, I’ve ordered a disco light from Argos coming tomorrow so thinking we’ll do a very early evening disco music, lights and party food for the kids and call it a night 🤣

Before we had kids we used to stay up for it, but only because we were getting pissed and having a party or night out. If you're just going to hang around and wait for midnight it seems pointless..

Now I'm too bloody knackered. The thought of staying up any later than about 9.30 makes me feel ill. Perhaps when the kids are older and have stopped waking me up at 5am.

Backbee · 31/12/2020 07:44

I don't think it's important as such, but I like to try to. A decade plus ago I would have been out all night and eating a kebab at 3am, now we stay in and watch films or play a board game (especially this year).

MaryMashedThem · 31/12/2020 07:47

Nope. DS woke up 14 times last night and I'm shattered. I'll go to bed when he does this evening, at about 8pm. It can't come soon enough!

halcyondays · 31/12/2020 07:57

I’ve stayed up to see the New Year in every year since I was 3.

We never go out on NYE anyway, we’ve stayed in for at least 15 years.
We all stay up for it and have party food, drinks and watch the Hootenanny.

When I read this I thought "this evening, eh?", then looked at the date. Bugger me, it's New Year's Eve, when did that happen???

Sod it, think I'll be going to bed, or have my normal evening snooze in the chair. I don't even fancy alcohol either.

BumbleBeegu · 31/12/2020 07:57

I'm sadly here by myself today...like a lot of people, my lovely plans to be with family and friends had to be cancelled 🤷‍♀️ So I'm going to go to bed as normal and think nothing of it...it's just too sad to stay up by myself 😢

PurpleFlower1983 · 31/12/2020 08:00

I usually do but I probably won’t tonight.

Wakeupin2022 · 31/12/2020 08:05

I always stay up. Its not the same as it used to be though.

It will just be me & DC tonight. Eldest is determined to stay up.

When I was a child I would go to bed 'sleep' for a few hours (never slept as I was so excited) and get up in time for the Bells. We would then have a party with most of the neighbours which would last until breakfast time.

Miss those days......

OrraBoralis · 31/12/2020 11:23

For the past few years we have the glasses and the fizzy in the wine fridge in the bedroom (don't ask about the wine cooler in the bedroom) and fall asleep before the Bells. We set an alarm 10 mins before and watch the terrible, terrible NY show the Country I'm in is broadcast. I drink the fizzy then need to pee all night but I do really like to see the Bells In.

CremeEggThief · 31/12/2020 17:56

Gosh, Bumble, I've spent nearly every NYE since 2012 completely alone, (including last year when I was visiting relatives who decided to go to bed early🙄) and I've never felt or thought that. I hope you can build some resilience and begin to enjoy being by yourself more next year.

Wish I could just sleep right through it but it sounds like World War 2 here at midnight

Gingerkittykat · 31/12/2020 20:24

Hogmanay is one of the highlights of my year.

I stay with my friend in the Highlands and go to the village street party with live music and a massive fireworks display. We all sing Auld Lang Syne at midnight with lots of hugging strangers.

I'm gutted I'm at home this year.

I'm sitting in my nightie and am hoping that there are some good private fireworks displays I can watch at the bells.

We stayed up to watch the fireworks on YouTube live. At 11.45 we watched a few around the world and then with a minute to go I looked for London. Watched London live 2020. Ten mins in they showed big crowds and we said how it wasn't very socially distanced and then played footballs coming home and fireworks said euro 2020. DP said he thought this might be last years and I realised my error. We found it hilarious but then I searched more and there was BBC coverage of London 2021 and we watched that for ten mins and went to bed.

This morning I read that London fireworks were cancelled this year. I have no idea what we watched.
