Completely random. Not usually fussed on NYE anyway so restrictions really make no difference to us anyway.

But do you feel it’s important to stay up and see the new year in?

I’m usually fast asleep by midnight 🤣 staying up will make me tired and grumpy the next day. Plus partner is on an early shift tomorrow leaving the house at 5am tomorrow so don’t think he’ll make it to midnight.

So aibu to just go to bed and sleep through til 2021? It’s not like there’s much to celebrate this year but I was thinking maybe we should see such a s**t year out.

To add, I’ve ordered a disco light from Argos coming tomorrow so thinking we’ll do a very early evening disco music, lights and party food for the kids and call it a night 🤣

No, it's not important, but usually there's so much noise you won't sleep anyway. This year might be different with lockdown and no fireworks. I have a curfew at 10 anyway.
I don't think what your parents did has much to do with it. NYE is a friends' evening in the Uk more than a family one.

SunscreenCentral · 30/12/2020 20:16

Came across an idea on Twitter last night that appealed to me, which is to get up to see the first dawn of 2021.
I’m a night owl so it would be different for me and suited to the year that’s in it.

BasiliskStare · 30/12/2020 20:25

Ah - I remember ( in my youth ) when NYE was "a thing" but waiting for hours in the cold for a taxi - not so much. Now, DH & I stay up for "the bongs" & then go to bed. I don't think waiting up for midnight needs to be a thing if you prefer not to. 2021 will be upon us whether you like it , celebrate it or whatever Typically we wait until the next day to phone family & say Happy New Year so - it doesn't really matter what time you go to bed.

Well a Happy New Year to all - however celebrated or not (and yes a bit early )

Floralnomad · 30/12/2020 20:27

NYE has never been important to me but I won’t be asleep as I am up until 1/2 am every night .

FenellaVelour · 30/12/2020 20:28

@GeordieGreigsButtButtZoom

I might stay up this year just to make fucking sure that 2020 really does finish. And I'll be booting its nasty arse out as it goes.
There’s always a chance...

It’s all artificial ways to mark time when you think about it. If I’m tired I’ll go to bed, I’m not bothered about seeing in the new year personally.

To ask if you think it’s important to stay up and see the new year in.
christmasathomeagain · 30/12/2020 20:29

Each to their own. I don't think I've slept through once since I was a child accept maybe the one after first dc born as he was less than three months old and we needed sleep!

But if its not important to you then go to sleep!

We are having a virtual night with my brother's family. We were meant to be with them for a few days.

1Morewineplease · 30/12/2020 20:30

We've slept ( or tried to sleep through it barring stupid fireworks) through it for decades.
Absolutely not interested in New Year celebrations.

Burnthurst187 · 30/12/2020 20:32

No

MintyMabel · 30/12/2020 20:32

Nope. Can’t be bothered with it any year. I hate any situation where I’m forced to “celebrate” just because everyone else does.

DianaOfTheLakes · 30/12/2020 20:35

Does lying on the sofa, drinking gin count as being up? Whilst half watching Jools Holland (is he even on this year?). I tend to stay awake but go to bed about 12:30.

AlwaysLatte · 30/12/2020 20:37

My two (12 and 10) always like to see if they can stay awake for the whole night, so we go to bed when they do - these days usually around 1am by the time they cave in! We'll do some family board games and watch the fireworks on tv.

Dopeyduck · 30/12/2020 20:38

I’ll be asleep as DP will be working and DS will be sleeping so I’ll be alone. A shitty end to a shitty year.

MrsDThomas · 30/12/2020 20:40

I always end up in bed about 10-10:30. Im a pj/glass of wine girl. Then up early the following day and up a mountain to see the sun ruse. Its epic especially in snow.

AlwaysLatte · 30/12/2020 20:40

@Crankley
I don't normally but shall be celebrating this year with a glass or two of award winning English bubbly.
Same here! A couple of bottles of Chapel Down chilling in the fridge 🍾🍾

Holothane · 30/12/2020 20:42

Really don’t care, I loathe nye the tv is crap.

wibblewombat · 30/12/2020 20:48

I'd love to be in bed but the dog will be so upset by fireworks, I'll have to be doing something with her...

Lovemusic33 · 30/12/2020 20:50

We rarely stay up to see the new year in. Last year was the first year dd wanted to stay up so we did but she found it pretty boring. We will have a mini buffet and watch some of the rubbish on tv but if we get tired we will go to bed. We have a roast New Year’s Day to celebrate the new year (then the diet usually starts on the 2nd 🤣).

pilates · 30/12/2020 20:51

No not important to me

Fuckstickss · 30/12/2020 20:51

Nope. And this year has been dog shit. I'm going to eat a massive chippy tea then go to bed by 10.

Off you fuck 2020.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/12/2020 20:53

Nope. I stayed up for the millennium and that is the one and only time I've ever done it.

AndcalloffChristmas · 30/12/2020 20:53

Definitely don’t need to!

I’ve done something or other the past few New Years, but I’m actually not a big fan of the holiday. It’s the only one I’m really not keen on! Just seems sort of false and forced to me.

AngelicInnocent · 30/12/2020 20:54

I will attempt to go to bed as I have to be up for work at 6.30 on new year's day but no doubt some git will set off a ton of fireworks and wake me up.

CarlottaValdez · 30/12/2020 20:55

The bastard fireworks will wake me up I expect

BibbityBobbityBellend · 30/12/2020 20:55

My parents used to love it. They would get hugely miserable if they weren't going somewhere big. If it was the UK I was lucky enough to go with them when young and when older my mum and I went abroad for it.

I never saw the big fuss about it though I did enjoy it. I like to stay up and watch the fireworks on tv and maybe a few places throughout the day and I get a bit emotional about the hope for the year ahead but tbh 9/10 I've fallen asleep way before!

umpteennamechanges · 30/12/2020 20:57

We normally would to watch the London fireworks.

This year...no way. Glad to see the back of the fucker (albeit into a few more months of shite) but I'll be fast asleep.
