Would you do frontal nudity if you were an actress?

For a lead role in a show like Game of Thrones or The Witcher?

I'm just getting back into acting (I went to drama school and did some acting work in my 20's) and recently, got a decent agent. I was asked to do a self tape for a new show not dissimilar to the above. Although, it didn't specify nudity I am paranoid that if I got the part they may ask to see the melons.

AIBU to not be ok with it despite wanting to do stuff like GOT?

@ineedaholidaynow

I am sure Julia Roberts used a body double in Pretty Woman
She did. The picture of her and Richard Gere as the 'cover' shot of the video / did is not her body either.
WankPuffins · 30/12/2020 14:39

Certainly not with the body I have.

If I had a decent one then probably.

SachaStark · 30/12/2020 14:41

I wouldn’t, because, like others have said, female nudity on screen is RARELY desperately necessary for the plot, and much more about satisfying the male gaze.

On the lines of young actresses who have managed to avoid it this far, I don’t think Saoirse Rohan has, has she?

coldwaterfeed · 30/12/2020 14:50

This thread is depressing, never knew so many women would be happy to bare all.

SachaStark · 30/12/2020 14:51

Ronan, not “Rohan”... she’s not from Middle Earth.

LuckyNumberThirteen · 30/12/2020 14:53

I would happily get my baps out.

Whether anyone would want to see them is another question...

EggnogAndAMincepie · 30/12/2020 14:54

They'd probably pay me double just to put my clothes back on Grin

minipie · 30/12/2020 14:57

I would. I think if I was willing to kiss a man (or woman) I don’t fancy, which is a pretty integral part of being a young actor/actress, then being naked is pretty small beer in comparison.

I would like to think I wouldn’t do shows that have totally gratuitous nudity (or indeed gratuitous kissing/sex scenes) though. In reality I doubt most starting out actors have muchbchoice.

EmilyDoesntKnowHerStuff · 30/12/2020 15:06

I wish I had boobs to even consider doing something like this!

ThanksItHasPockets · 30/12/2020 15:14

IIRC Saoirse Ronan had at least one nude scene in On Chesil Beach.

SonjaMorgan · 30/12/2020 15:16

Surely it depends on the part? Kate Winslet has been nude for some roles. As long as it is necessary and tasteful it wouldn't bother me.

Lindy2 · 30/12/2020 15:16

If it was a tasteful production then yes I probably would. Something low level with nudity just for kicks, then no.

Pre Covid times I like to go to the theatre in London. I have to say there's quite often a bit of nudity going on - particularly at The Globe and it's almost always the men stripping off.

crankysaurus · 30/12/2020 15:17

Doesn't really matter if other people would be happy to or not, if you don't want to then YANBU to not get them out. Your boobs, your choice.

CorianderQueen · 30/12/2020 15:18

Yes I would, but I wouldn't show them my boobs before they cast me if possible as that sounds dodgy.

VinylDetective · 30/12/2020 15:19

It wouldn’t bother me but then I used to earn some extra money when I was a student by modelling for life classes. It’s only a body at the end of the day.

Break a leg, OP.

sbhydrogen · 30/12/2020 15:22

I wouldn't mind, as long as there was no shot of my legs spread.

TableFlowerss · 30/12/2020 15:28

Why not - as long as it’s tasteful etc. Good luck.

IEat · 30/12/2020 15:29

I would
Your boobs are boobs
What exactly do you see of your fanny in full frontal
Hair or bald so you see the mound
No big deal really

user127819 · 30/12/2020 15:34

No. A good writer or director is perfectly capable of portraying any storyline they want to without asking me to compromise my privacy and dignity. They might have to work a bit harder to suggest things rather than showing them explicitly as is the popular way nowadays. If they can't do that, they're not a very good writer. If they can do it, but won't, they're creepy.

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 30/12/2020 15:38

When I was young I would have been perfectly happy to be seen naked, but now I wouldn't, however if I had been an actress I would probably have worked really hard to keep my body looking good enough to still strip off on screen.

Arthersleep · 30/12/2020 15:49

If I were an actress I would do it for the right money. However, in order to be an actress I would obviously not only be beautiful but have an amazing body.

gannett · 30/12/2020 15:55

I think it would depend even more on the team involved than the plot. Director, fellow actors, cameraman etc etc - and intimacy coordinator! - who had good reputations for keeping it professional, making actors comfortable, not pulling a fast one about which bits got edited out. I'd want to gauge their reputations.

Nudity that might seem essential to a plot or in the service of a serious film has NOT historically meant actresses are protected.

ivfbabymomma1 · 30/12/2020 16:01

Your not being unreasonable for not doing it but personally I would do it

KatherineJaneway · 30/12/2020 16:55

You'd have your fandango covered by a merkin if you did decide to do it.

Not that I would.

smalalalalalala · 30/12/2020 18:51

@corythatwas

"Random person who "did some acting in thier twenties" gets auctions for TV shows with, what 15 mill an episode budget?"

Ah, the good old MN suspiciousness.

Might not an equally good way of expressing what the OP told us be "trained actress who has previously worked in the profession has returned after a career gap and aquired a pro-active agent"?

She didn't say she'd been given an audition, only that she'd been asked (not clear if by the casting agent for the film of just by her own agent) to send in a self-reel.

Why is she any more random than the countless people who have got acting parts in large-budget films straight after drama school?

Plus some actors are late bloomer, only doing small parts and suddenly BOOM they land a big role and then they are everywhere

I would go for everything you can access and once you are further advanced in the casting process, discuss it, if it comes to that

Isn't it sad that women have to undress for their career ?
