To think getting my nose pierced really hurt

I got my nose pierced today and I don’t know if I’m getting soft but it actually really hurt. I’ve had it done twice before over the years with a gun and I barely flinched.

Today was a different story, i had it done with a needle and I thought I was going to pass out. Over the years I’ve had (nearly but not quite!!) every piercing imaginable and this was deffo the worst one!

Anyone else think it hurt?

I had mine pierced with a gun 21 years ago, I was 13! Don’t remember it hurting too much but I did have this horrible spot that appeared on the site for about 3 months Confused

I can now go months without wearing it and it never closes up.

I had no idea about the gun! the piercer who has just done my nose gave me the option to have it done with a gun, I refused because I wanted the ring. They had 5* reviews aswell!!

Why are people getting any piercings with a gun? They can’t be sterilised fully and cause more trauma to the skin.

When I had mine done there wasn’t the information around which is at everyone’s fingertips now. In the small town where I lived you’d get your ears pierced (with a gun) at a hairdressers or jewellers and any other piercings would be done at the tattoo and piercing studio.
It was just a matter of trusting that they knew what they were doing.

Gun piercings were incredibly common in the past but we have more knowledge - no reputable piercer should be offering gun piercings for anything outside of earlobe piercings, but even then a needle would be preferable.

The impact of guns on cartilage can be lifelong - they can cause shattering, infections and cauliflower ear. Needles should be used every single time.

I also don't like the fact that anyone can buy a piercing gun and do piercings on people from the back room of a shop - I believe the girls' in Claires aren't even trained properly - don't they practise on stuffed animals?!

I had mine done in august. Hurt like hell!

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 31/12/2020 15:28

Had mine done with a needle and didnt find it too bad. Eye watered a bit. Labret was something else though, my body cringes when I think of the needle through my lip.

I don't think any of my piercings hurt that much. My nose piercing didn't make my eyes water at all; my Medusa did slightly. But painful? No, not really.

Not had my nose done, but had a few ear piercings and a needle does hurt more than a gun. The first cartilage piercing I had done was with a gun- I know (now) but it was many moons ago and I didn't know then. Stick some ice on it OP Flowers

I had mine done with a needle (they shouldn't be done with a gun, AFAIK) and it felt like I'd been punched on the nose! My eyes watered like hell and my nose was a bit puffy the following day but within a week it had healed over (which was just as well given that I was at a festival by then an hygiene was, erm, rather hard to come by).

My navel was far worse for pain (Jesus wept, the pain!) and the top of my ear took forever to heal, so my nose wasn't actually the worst one.

Had mine done with a staple gun about 8 years ago, short sharp shock. However, it healed up when I took the stud out. Had it re-piereced at local tattoo studio & he used a needle. He pierced it in exactly the same place, through the scar material & it hurt like hell! Bless my mate being there to hold my hand!Grin

Staple gun?!

I had mine done with a gun over 20 years ago. The pain was awful! My head snapped back so far I think I got whiplash!

CaptainSandy · 03/01/2021 00:56

I had my belly button done first and it was painless. So a few weeks later I went in all happy to have my nose done and my god the pain... eye was streaming. But it healed up beautifully, done with a needle.
