Sick & lethargic every 6/8 weeks

Wondering if anyone has been in same situation, roughly every 6/8 weeks I feel totally ill, feel so nauseous and drained, gets worse as the day goes on. Had blood tests done, all clear, used to suffer from uti/kidney infections that had similar symptoms but last few times I have felt like this my urine etc has came back clear so must be something else! Doctor says possibly stress related?

But why does this keep happening?

I feel so drained with it! I have a dd (6) and feel I have no energy to do as much fun things with her as I would like when I'm feeling so ill. Lasts for roughly about a week then goes away again.

Totally fed up with it all now, doctor doesn't seem to know what it could be, she has given me anti sickness tablets which sometimes help with the feeling but not always. Feel like I could just go to sleep and not wake up until it passes!

Not physically being sick just feel so sick all day and so drained, exhausted all day then can't sleep at night!

Has anyone experienced anything similar? Seriously considering paying private to try and get some answers because this feeling is horrible, it's like a terribly bad hangover and I don't even drink!

Aibu to have just had enough??

Is this linked to your menstrual cycle? I can remember the utter exhaustion at a certain time in my cycle.

StormsDontLastForever · 29/12/2020 21:17

@Bookworming I don't get a period as I am on the pill it just never happens. My menstrual cycle has been messed up for years as I was on the injection and the patch.

Bookworming · 29/12/2020 21:18

My guess is that this is a link, has your doctor not thought of this?

Xmassprout · 29/12/2020 21:21

My first thought was the same as @Bookworming

megletthesecond · 29/12/2020 21:28

How old are you? Possibly peri-menopause.

gingerninja99 · 29/12/2020 21:35

I am on the coil so don't get periods but I do get the hormonal drop every 4-6 weeks, I am exhausted for a good week or two and have a stressy weepy day or two. I am also mid 40's and I guess it's all hormone related one way or another

ToffeePennie · 29/12/2020 21:36

Have you looked into PMDD and the cycle connected?
Even though you don’t get periods, you will still have the hormonal and brain chemistry changes associated with the menstrual cycle. X

StormsDontLastForever · 29/12/2020 22:23

Thank you all.

Doctor has never mentioned it being related to my cycle, however they have asked questions regarding my cycle etc. I am currently on cezerette pill, tried every contraception going & always had side effects with each one but seriously considering asking to change pill and see if that helps because this feeling is horrible would never wish it on anyone!

I am 28 so not sure if it could be the pre menopause.

Definetley think a call to my gp tomorrow morning is in order.

@StormsDontLastForever wants your current sexual relationship? Would condoms be an idea, give up the hormonal, see how things go for a year?

SunniCameHomeWithAVengeance · 29/12/2020 22:34

I would come off contraception and chart your periods. Also even though you're not bleeding you could try an iron supplement.

Northernmummy80 · 29/12/2020 22:42

I had something similar and I never got to the bottom what it was until I had my second child and turns out my ibs symptoms got worse (I never knew I actually had ibs)

I never linked ibs as one of the symptoms is feeling sick and tiredness can be too.

I would make a food diary and see if there is a link between anything you eat and days when you feel worse. Mine is onion which is in a lot of foods but turns out it doesn’t agree with me

WishingHopingThinkingPraying · 29/12/2020 22:43

Could the 6-8 weeks be a red herring? How often has it happened? I was feeling like you describe on and off. Turns out it was anxiety. It ended in a proper crash once I realised what was going on. It's treated now and I've been fine since but was so ill and lethargic periodically.

StormsDontLastForever · 29/12/2020 22:44

@Bookworming @SunniCameHomeWithAVengeance I have a dp, currently have dd (6) and have no plans to have anymore at the moment. Partner doesn't like condoms and I would worry that I would fall pregnant with being on no contraception, although I would love to come off of everything and see if that has any effect. Definetley something I need to consider. Thank you both

I have IBS and have a day or two every 2/3 months where I feel sick and tired.
I hope you feel better soon x

StormsDontLastForever · 29/12/2020 22:46

@Northernmummy80 thank you I will start a food diary as I do suffer from upset stomachs regular and when I was younger I suffered from stomach migraines so possibly could be something food related.

StormsDontLastForever · 29/12/2020 22:48

@WishingHopingThinkingPraying thank you, I have suffered with anxiety for years, never had symptoms as intense as this. I am on medication for my anxiety, doctor suggested it could possibly be stress related but I'm not sure. I have said 6/8 weeks on average, I don't know the exact amount of weeks all I know is I feel horrible for a week or so then it goes away and comes back again, probably about the 7/8th time this year (just a guess) I really need to start making note of things.

StormsDontLastForever · 29/12/2020 22:48

@Andsomywatchbegins that's a shame to hear, is there anything that helps you feel better? I feel like this for about 5/6 days then it lifts then returns a few weeks later, so strange!

I get this too! Not every 6-8 weeks precisely but every now and then. I’ve been getting it since my dd (now 12) was a baby and no one has ever got to the bottom of it. Like you I’ve had blood tests and everything.

It was at its worst when dd was a 1’yo but had it most recently just before xmas.

Current thinking is that it’s stress related.

Bookworming · 29/12/2020 22:49

@StormsDontLastForever it's difficult when the DP doesn't like condoms, maybe try the food diary etc but then if that doesn't work, have another chat with DP ?

Hopefully you can sort it before the need to come off hormonal contraception.

Larsingsong · 29/12/2020 22:50

Yes, I've been getting this too. Since May time. Have had the coil out and it persists. Am mid 40's.

Haven't had it looked into. Thought it maybe hormones, some kind of food intolerance or maybe Covid related, I've never tested positive but have been working on front line and that's when it started, so could be anxiety.

I've been taking high strength vitamin d and I think that does help.

StormsDontLastForever · 29/12/2020 22:51

@AndcalloffChristmas my doctor suggested potentially stress related, I am a very stressful person. But at the moment things are good, dong really have that much to be stressing about, unless I am subconsciously doing it. It is horrible and absolutley draining, it's like a hangover from hell that lasts about a week. Hope you do manage to get to the bottom of it eventually

OP posts:
Larsingsong · 29/12/2020 22:52

Also, it feels just like morning sickness to me (it's definitely not!).

StormsDontLastForever · 29/12/2020 22:53

@Bookworming thank you so much for you're reply's. Will definetley be starting a good diary and seeing how that goes if there is any trigger etc but will be speaking to dp tomorrow regarding contraception as at the moment I will try anything to stop feeling so drained and nauseous. Thank you

MovedByFanciesThatAreCurled · 29/12/2020 22:53

I get this. I feel so sick (like travel sickness) and so unbelievably tired I have to crawl into bed no matter what I am doing. Plan is to start a food diary in Jan as have a sneaking suspicion it’s linked to dairy. I really hope not but it’s either that or hormone related.

StormsDontLastForever · 29/12/2020 22:54

@Larsingsong yes mine is like morning sickness, I feel ill in the morning but not as bad, the day goes on and I get so much worse. 100% not pregnant either. Could be anxiety related due to you working frontline, fingers crossed you do get to the bottom of it. I had a covid test done today and it was negative so definetley not covid. Total mystery as to what it could be
