Is anyone else feeling a little sad that Christmas is over!?

I wasn’t really feeling christmassy in the lead up to Christmas, but actually had a lovely few days, and now feel a little sad it’s all over. Feeling a bit uncertain as to what next year will bring. Is anyone else feeling the same? Any positivity / motivational tips!?

I am a bit sad Christmas is over but more because with Christmas ending it brings the end to this year and I think next year is going to be no better than 2020 for a few months!
I am twitchy now though and desperate to get the decorations down and get the house back to normal!

Ifailed · 29/12/2020 08:07

Don't worry, it'll all start again in about 6 months time.

EternalOptimist7 · 29/12/2020 08:10

I work in retail so it’s been Christmas for months! Still think it’s crazy that the store tree goes up in September! Having said that, I love Christmas & always feel quite flat on Boxing Day & for the time leading up to New Year 😥
Trying to put a positive spin on it all by decluttering ( DH did a great job clearing the hall, stairs, lounge & kitchen before my folks came for the big day) & ordering new furniture for DD12’s room. Today’s job is putting away piles of clothes as our bedroom resembles a jumble sale.

lollipoprainbow · 29/12/2020 08:10

We've had a lovely Christmas which I didn't think we would ! Don't mind getting back to 'normal' though whatever that is.

Lolalime · 29/12/2020 08:12

Yes all the magic is over for another year

Moominmama5 · 29/12/2020 08:12

I don’t really feel like it’s over until new year happens. We’ve still got the tree up, new toys in the living room and still have time together. I guess it’s very different for families that aren’t still on holiday leave though.

WunWun · 29/12/2020 08:13

I had a lovely day on the day, but I'm looking forward to getting back to normal now. I wish it was the new year already tbh.

TheIrishRover · 29/12/2020 08:18

No. My bad time will be next week when the alarm has to go on, i have to find the piles of uniform I've not put away, drop the kids to school and come back to a deluge of meetings that i put in myself when i was feeling all demob happy the last week before Christmas saying to all my colleagues let's not worry about it now, I'll put something in for the first week back. Oh how i wish I'd just had those meetings that week....

Deereamer · 29/12/2020 08:20

I feel like I blinked and missed it. I love Christmas and now it’s over, I’m dreading the long slog that 2021 is likely to be.

HRHRomy · 29/12/2020 08:20

I'm sad it didn't go as well as I had hoped and wish I could rewind the time in that sense but I'm looking forward to a new year really... don't know what exactly will happen but just want to say 2021 already!

LubaLuca · 29/12/2020 08:20

I feel a bit sad. It was a few days of unreality, and I love that about Christmas even in years when the real world is ticking over normally.

I'm not back at work yet, but that little spark of festivity has gone.

solittletime · 29/12/2020 08:23

Christmas starts on Christmas Day, we are now on the 5th day of Christmas (5 gooold rings!)
Try to keep the spirit going at home! I changed decorations on my tree and might make paper chains with dc today.
I agree outside of the house all spirit of Christmas seems to have disappeared, people getting rid of trees since boxing day round here!!!

UghNotThisAgain36 · 29/12/2020 08:24

I love the build up (such as it has been this year) and Xmas & Boxing day even though I literally do EVERYTHING (single parent). Now, I'm drained and I'm done with Christmas. Decorations came down yesterday and I'm now in 'normal' mindset of online school, wfh part time, washing, cleaning shopping, admin etc. Next hurdle is school return for most parents I imagine which has sort of overshadowed this Christmas in a way.

Ultimateblends · 29/12/2020 08:25

Have a second Christmas!

My dc were with the father on the actual day, so nye is our Xmas eve, nyd our Xmas day.

Bought the magic back yesterday with snow Times, music, board games, still making our way through junk food and cheeses, meats etc.
Christmas lights still shining.

There's still a little celebration to come! Don't let it be the end just because the 'official date' has come and gone.

Bunnyrun5 · 29/12/2020 08:25

No I’m pleased it’s over couldn’t wait to get the decs down yday. It’s not because I don’t like Xmas it’s because we usually have a house full of family, we have 4 adult sons plus partners. This year just us two, it’s was a nice few days but really felt like any other weekend I missed the boys so now just want to get the vaccine and get all our lives back to some kind of normal. Apologies for sounding miserable about Xmas!

solittletime · 29/12/2020 08:28

Just to add it’s fine to want everything tidied up and de-Christmassed if that’s what someone needs, but since you expressed sadness there are ways to keep it going a bit! Going to buy party food as well for dinner one day

Puddlepop · 29/12/2020 08:31

Still a good few days left before the 12th night, so party on!! I love the few days between Christmas and New Year’s Day too - when things are generally still a bit slower and quieter.

onlyconnect · 29/12/2020 08:33

I agree with Moominmana5 and the last poster who said it's not fully over. It ends on 2 Jan here. Make the most of it!

HRHRomy · 29/12/2020 08:34

I always find Christmas day emotional, tend to get too drunk or when I'm not drinking DH drinking so somebody is sloshed and it affects the mood and the day is just meh and anti climax but as pp said the build up is exciting.

lidoshuffle · 29/12/2020 08:36

I had to do a double take this morning that was only five days ago - I thought/felt there had been another intervening week and Christmas was a week last Friday.

Everything is so draggy with Covid restrictions.

Meruem · 29/12/2020 08:36

Christmas is definitely still on in this house. I’m off work till the 4th so we’re still playing games, watching movies, eating the Christmas food (Still have things like mince pies etc left). I won’t take my tree down until the 5th. Our feeling is to make it last as long as possible this year.

Lonelybattle · 29/12/2020 08:36

I'm relieved! Time to get back into a 'normal' schedule, as much as it may be these days...

28andold · 29/12/2020 08:37

Christmas was much more relaxed this year- no stampede style shopping. But I'm glad it's over. Roll on spring and warmer weather.

polkadotpjs · 29/12/2020 08:39

I do feel a bit sad but not working just yet so am going to spin out another day of dog walk/ cheese and early drinking. Though my bedtime has started to go back to nearer normal. I think the kids are ready for school actually but it'll soon be next week. I echo what a PP said about suspended reality. That sums it up totally - switch off and in my work , know that very few others are working so it's not going to pile up (I hope until tomorrow)

GnomeDePlume · 29/12/2020 08:39

@Seaair2 start planning something you can actually start doing soon. I am going to have a go at growing sprouting veg so will be starting that off in the next few days (as soon as seeds arrive).

Do you have a garden? Is there a bed that could do with a makeover? Sit down with some paper and start planning.
