board games and xmas

DH and I had a fight over xmas about board games. We loves them whereas I just dont see the point. He was very adamant that everyone plays board games over xmas - it's just what you do. I didnt grow up in the UK and honestly, I have never ones seen my parents play boardgames or any other adult. Is playing board games really such a thing in the UK?

Oops sorry to post that twice....

Yes play them here. Easy card games also. Not just at Christmas. More in the winter though.

Since there are so many fans😁
Can anyone recommend 2 player games with good replay value? It seems pain in the arse to find good games for 2.*

Ones we still play with after at least 3 years since we bought it:
7Wonders Duel
Star Realms
Hero Realms
Qwuirkle
Azul
Tokaido
Dominion
Ticket to ride
Finca
Pentago
Tsuro

Ones we didn't like/sold fast:
Camel Up
Takenoko
Coup
Hive
Sushi Go

TheSun my all time favourite two player game is Duke. We also regularly play Tatsu (although if you didn't like Hive it might not be for you as it is made by the same designer), codename duet and Shobu. The scandinavian Ticket to Ride can be played with two players.

We got given Trekking for Xmas, it's appallingly dull.

Thank you!

My family are board game and card players....I’m not so much but wil join in with most games and all at Christmas (even if i just hand out the pieces)

We got pandemic...bad taste but a good game, horrified Herd mentality and arrogance (the last one we changed slightly as no one was enjoying the ruies)

Most favourite game of the family...ever, and one we play frequently is One night werewolf

This year we are going to work through the games cupboard 😀
