Have visited earth? DH and I were watching Ancient Aliens. Obviously it’s a tv show exaggerated just for entertainment but it raised some discussion in the likelihood of aliens visiting us.

Neither of us have any doubt about the existence of life in the universe but whether they have visited us or not is still an ongoing discussion. Do you believe we have been visited?

YABU - No were totally alone
YANBU - Yes we have either definitely been visited or it’s likely we have

  • straight out of Star Trek the proper series! Didn’t they have gold robes?

Op yanbu.

@PhilCornwall1

We have been visited. You don't get a forehead like that being human!!!
Have you seen the new Spitting Image? Dominic Cummings IS an alien! Grin

You missed the third option - aliens exist but haven't visited.

Trump would have been tweeting about it if he'd been told there were aliens in area 51 or whatever. But the universe is far too large for us to be the only life.

LongPauseNoAnswer · 27/12/2020 20:09

Yeah @HerNameIsIncontinentiaButtocks I only had 2 options Grin

Those ancient alien visit theories tend to be pretty racist: it's always about how brown people can't possibly have constructed the amazing monuments around them, never how it must have taken alien intervention to build the French cathedrals or the Roman aqueducts.

1Morewineplease · 27/12/2020 20:22

I remember, years ago , watching Arthur C Clarke's mysteries.
There was an episode about a giant carving , on a huge flat plain somewhere in South America, that was mathematically correct, but only from a high vantage point and it was made a thousand or so years ago.

But no, I don't think aliens have visited.

farawayplanet · 27/12/2020 20:28

No, I highly doubt they've visited. I think UFOs are experimental aircraft that some countries build. The nazis were into that, so I expect others have taken it further now that technology has advanced.

They certainly did Smile

Ancient Aliens is bollocks.

PhilCornwall1 · 27/12/2020 20:34

Have you seen the new Spitting Image? Dominic Cummings IS an alien!

I haven't yet, but it's on the list to try and watch.

HerNameIsIncontinentiaButtocks · 27/12/2020 20:39

Ancient Aliens is not only bollocks, it's got a lot of racist overtones. "Look at all these poor historical brown people, they couldn't possibly have built the pyramids/machu picchu/drawn the nazca lines/invented agriculture without help from aLiEnS"

Some of the nazca lines are a few dozen feet across, btw, not the multiple miles the text implies...

TheBlessedCheesemaker · 28/12/2020 09:16

They’re probably still in tier4.

ImRealHonest · 28/12/2020 09:19

I’ve been to some places that have featured on ancient aliens. Most places it’s clearly nonsense, but one or two have made me step back and thing ‘yeah. Must be aliens’

OrigamiPenguinArmy · 28/12/2020 09:31

Ancient Aliens is rubbish, the answer to how things like the pyramids and Stonehenge got built is simple, no time limits and no health and safety regulations. However, I do believe aliens have visited and continue to visit earth.

Authorities in various countries have recently been releasing videos of unexplained craft, such as the “tic-tac” and “gimbal” videos from the US military, not necessarily alien spaceships but fascinating nonetheless.

MaryLeeOnHigh · 28/12/2020 10:12

Where from, and how have they done it in logistical and scientific terms?

CigarsofthePharoahs · 28/12/2020 10:18

John Redwood is a Vulcan? I thought he was the Demon Headmaster. Hey ho.
I think the best evidence of intelligent life in the universe is that it's all had the sense to keep well away from us. Imagine orbiting Alpha Centauri and picking up endless episodes of I Love Lucy and Coronation Street? You'd fire up the fusion drives and zip right out of here.

LokihasafryingPan · 28/12/2020 10:21

Theres a podcast called alien theorists theorizing, i really like the way they debate this sort of thing, and other topics too.
As for me, I'm not sure. I want to believe, but I'm not sure I really do!

StillCoughingandLaughing · 28/12/2020 10:50

I’d love to meet these alien builders who constructed the pyramids, then left the site without another word for thousands of years. I had a patio put in a couple of years ago and they’re still calling me now to ask if I’m sure I don’t want a conservatory too. AND they never took the leftover cement away.

Thanks for the podcast recommendation. I love discussions on this theory!

Hard to believe that in a universe as big as this, no other life forms could have evolved.

Will they have come up
with the necessary technology to travel vast distances? If they did, would they decide Earth was the place to go? Would it be when there was life on earth? It all starts looking less likely that they visited humanity on earth.

Pyewhacket · 28/12/2020 11:07

The Truth is out there !

Whatwouldscullydo · 28/12/2020 11:08

This is a subject that fascinates me, has done since I was a teen, when xfiles came out i was thrilled Grin

I used to read books in the school library, that talked about cave paintings showing balls of light/disks and recordings from pilots who saw unexplained objects up in the sky with them,

I watched documentaries on roswell, ..I still find it a fascinating subject.

I mean aren't we infact aliens? Wasn't there a theory that the bacteria that lead to human evolution come from a meteorite? So we evolved from.alien bacteria?

OrigamiPenguinArmy · 28/12/2020 11:13

@MaryLeeOnHigh

I haven’t a clue where aliens come from. I do know most experts agree there are other planets in other galaxies capable of supporting life, but saying something as unknown as aliens come from any particular planet would be ridiculous. My best guess how they get here (based on what people much cleverer than me have said) is some kind of worm hole or inter-dimensional travel.

You might think it’s all bollocks, but I find the idea that there’s more in the universe than just us, and the idea that things from beyond our world have visited earth fascinating. Much like Mulder, I want to believe.

Whatwouldscullydo · 28/12/2020 11:15

Meant to add theres plenty on earth that Defies the rules of nature as we used to know them. Like the idea that every living organism was carbon based and needed oxygen. They found silicone based organisms in sulphur caves.

The environment needed to sustain life is not what we originally thought so uts more than possible that it developed elsewhere.

Lex345 · 28/12/2020 11:17

Its statistically probable that there is other life in the universe;whether or not we would even recognise it as life is questionable, there is such a huge variation of life on our own planet, with the same or very similar environmental resources, life on planets with different compositions and resources might have evolved completely differently to maximise what is available.
Although I would love to think otherwise, I think its highly improbable aliens have visited Earth or even know we exist. Their technology and knowledge would be massively in advance of ours to achieve such a feat and this being the case I can hardly think we would be worth the journey.

I hope during my lifetime evidence of alien life is discovered (past or present), but it seems fairly unlikely.
