To be unsure about going on a girls holiday while pregnant?

Obviously the covid situation may make this a non issue, but as it stands I'm meant to be going to Egypt with a close pal in June next year. However I've just found out that I'm pregnant and if all goes well I will be around 6 months along when we go.

I just mentioned it to DH to get his thoughts and he was honest and said he wasnt keen on me going anymore. He isnt controlling or anything, it's just both of our first baby and we've got absolutely no clue how the next 9 months will go tbh! He said he isn't sure he wants me to be that far away from him in case anything happens. However he also says he might feel more chilled the further into the pregnancy I get and change his mind. I pointed out that I'd probably need to tell my friend asap so she can arrange for someone else to go in my place (its all paid for so a free holiday for them). Obvipusly I won't say anything until we get to the 12 week point anyway.

So can I ask opinions please? Is it a good idea to write the whole thing off as early as possible or should I see how I feel?

Other thing is, itll kind of change the dynamics of the holiday as it probably would've been quite boozy! But on the other hand maybe it will be a nice chance to relax before the baby?

My first pregnancy started very well - no illness at all.

At 6 months in I suddenly developed SPD and hypertension and was required to go to hospital every 3 days to be checked by DAU.

Personally I just wouldn’t at pretty much any strange of pregnancy.

Nope. You might be fine but you’re more likely to be uncomfortable and hot. You’ll have to police what you eat like a hawk. Cancel. Also, depending on what you’d planned you will slow friend down...
What I would do - if you can by then- is take a break somewhere with your DH. It’ll be the last time you two are alone on a holiday for a long time!

Thanks all. A few things I hadn't considered especially the food and the heat. I still have a while to think on it luckily but I imagine I will cancel. I feel like a right cow to my friend though hence offering to swap the holiday to someone else for free!

I don't think it's a good idea to go but I do think you should tell your friends asap even if it means telling her before you are 12 weeks

I'd pull out, I'm afraid, for all the reasons PP have mentioned.

I also think there's a world of difference between going away with DH and a friend should you get stranded because of Covid or find yourself unwell.

@lcdododo

Christ, I flew at 4 and 6 months and it was fantastic.

No wonder the response to covid is bonkers is England is this full of worriers!

Well, I flew twice-weekly throughout my pregnancy till 36 weeks, but I wasn’t proposing to go to an extremely hot destination on a cheap AI deal somewhere with dubious food hygiene in the middle of a pandemic with a friend who’s expecting a boozy nights out holiday.

Everyone’s made some good points and only thing to add I went away around 30 weeks pregnant to london with DH so not too far and I hated it. Not for any other reason than I felt uncomfortable, it was like a nesting feeling, I didn’t want to be far away from home. You might not feel the same and I know some people don’t but worth considering how you will feel being away from DH and home.

Yummymummy2020 · 28/12/2020 09:07

Wouldn’t be for me I have to say at six months but I had a very bad pregnancy with pre eclampsia from about the 4 month mark! I’d be very reluctant to commit to it but mainly from a food hygiene point of view as another poster mentioned!

No friend in the world would object to you cancelling on these grounds.
If she does, then she isnt someone I would want in my life.

MaryShelley1818 · 28/12/2020 09:29

I think you're doing the right thing by cancelling. I wouldn't even consider it at 6mths pregnant (currently 8mths with my 2nd). You just don't know how you'll feel.

MaryLeeOnHigh · 28/12/2020 09:51

Another one here who got bad food poisoning on a holiday in Egypt. I definitely wouldn't risk it whilst pregnant.

MaryLeeOnHigh · 28/12/2020 09:52

I do agree that you shouldn't wait till you are 12 weeks pregnant to let your friend know. The more time she has to make alternative arrangements, the better.

IMNOTSHOUTING · 28/12/2020 12:15

I don't think your friend will mind but I do think you could help her find someone else to go with. Giving your share of the holiday for free will surely be a hige incentive - lots of people would jump at a free trip!

luckylavender · 28/12/2020 12:32

I've been to Egypt many times. No chance I'd go when I was pregnant
