Or is Clinique 72 hour moisture surge a SHAM

Just that really.

I've been given the most enormous tub of Clinique Moisture Surge for Christmas. Its HUGE. Its not something I would normally use or ask for but have given it a go. All investigations suggested this is a moisturizer, potentially a hydrating mask.

But...nothing. My skin soaks it up like water and continues to look sahara-esque. I'm on my third coating and whilst DP is delighted because he mistakenly thinks my repeated use must mean I love it, in truth Im completely baffled by its popularity.

Anyone else disappointed with this? Do you love it and maybe I'm using it incorrectly. Or do you have any other products you'd issue a DO NOT BUY warning on? Grin

That’s a shame, I love the stuff. I get dry skin on my face in winter (normally little patches around my nose and near my eyebrows) and I find it’s the only stuff which keeps the flakes away. I use a little bit first thing in the morning and before I go to bed. It was revelation when I found it, I’d spent years embarrassed of my flakey skin which also meant my foundation flaked off. But not everything is for everyone.

Exfoliate and take plenty of vitamin D. Makes a massive difference. It's the worst time of the year for skin, but hang in there. 😊

Hopeisnotastrategy Coincidentally I saw a dermatologist before the last lockdown and she did advise me to start taking vitamin D. Its a bit early to tell but fingers crossed it does help.

She also suggested a new cleanser, a slightly more intensive ones with more AHA & BHA's in it, so exfoliation and vitamin D sounds like excellent advice.

This time of year is always a nightmare for dry skin, the amount of wine Im having likely doesn't help Blush

@6hoursawayfromdisaster I was about to mention Drunk Elephant when I saw you were already there. I got a full size pot of their pointy peppy pronti pwhatever stuff for my birthday and I love it. I have really dry skin but I’m using that and in the morning the pale blue thing and the vitamin c serum and I’m all smooth like a baby’s bum.

user1473878824 · 27/12/2020 23:42

@6hoursawayfromdisaster What are you using as a cleanser now?

6hoursawayfromdisaster · 27/12/2020 23:58

user1473878824 Its called Purity Clean by Cosmedix. She said I could use that or Murad Aha/BHA in the evenings. Then a retinol (Im still using Sunday Riley so I'm to find out what she recommends once I finish that) and a nice balm like the drunk elephant one. She also gave me a little face mist to spritz on before moisturizer and throughout the day. Its a brand beginning with O from Space NK that I can look out.

I would never have thought to buy either cleanser because both are advertised for oily/combination skin. Honestly it has made a difference though, the red tight feeling has definitely lessened.

I had a sample of moisture surge and thought it was crap. I see that I am in the minority on this thread. I have long considered the dramatically different moisturiser crap too.

@6hoursawayfromdisaster Oskia? I use their Renaissance Cleanser and it’s bloody amazing.

Twinkle1989 · 28/12/2020 23:14

@6hoursawayfromdisaster Clinique do a Moisture Surge Mask in a tube which is bloody brilliant! That may sort your skin out and then continue with the normal Clinique cream :-)

foreverandalways · 28/12/2020 23:21

The surge is absolutely fantastic.....I was lucky enough to have more as a gift from my husband for Xmas along with the eye serum and concealer...love it...you are very lucky as it's really expensive

SynchroSwimmer · 28/12/2020 23:36

I’m with you op, just got to the bottom of a massive tub of the stuff but I won’t ever get again. Does nothing for my skin at all.
Heading back to La Roche Posay.

MrsBungle · 28/12/2020 23:43

I really like it but the vast majority of moisturisers give me spots as my skin is so greasy. Clinique moisture surge and Liz Earle skin repair gel cream are the only 2 that don’t give me acne.

ThanksItHasPockets · 28/12/2020 23:49

I agree with pp - if your skin is dry rather than dehydrated then it won’t do anything for you and I think this is also why it doesn’t do anything for @TheSilentStars. If your skin is dry it needs oil, not hydration. It’s possible that you are dry and dehydrated, of course.

CrochetToTheMoon · 28/12/2020 23:50

I thought it was okay but I much prefer my Kate Somerville and Clarins moisturisers. I have combo skin, slightly oiler tzone and drier everywhere else. My skin doesn’t get dry patches but it gets really tight and itchy. The Kate Somerville Delikate range has been utterly phenomenal at sorting it out!

georgiamag1 · 29/12/2020 01:28

My mum gave me a bottle of the Clinique dramatically different moisturising gel ( I know this is a different product) but I was So Excited as I thought ooooh how fancy. And it's actually such a let down. It feels like I've patted water in my face which has just dried in and my skin still feels dry. I'll be going back to my normal neutrogena I think
