Or is Clinique 72 hour moisture surge a SHAM

Just that really.

I've been given the most enormous tub of Clinique Moisture Surge for Christmas. Its HUGE. Its not something I would normally use or ask for but have given it a go. All investigations suggested this is a moisturizer, potentially a hydrating mask.

But...nothing. My skin soaks it up like water and continues to look sahara-esque. I'm on my third coating and whilst DP is delighted because he mistakenly thinks my repeated use must mean I love it, in truth Im completely baffled by its popularity.

Anyone else disappointed with this? Do you love it and maybe I'm using it incorrectly. Or do you have any other products you'd issue a DO NOT BUY warning on? Grin

I used to use it after a shower to stop my face feeling tight, it's lovely. Still used a normal cream at night though.

Pukkatea · 27/12/2020 14:47

Clinique skincare is the only thing I've used that actually seemed to do anything. I've currently got Sunday Riley and it's a load of expensive rubbish, and my Ordinary products are a load of cheap rubbish.

Nearlytherenext · 27/12/2020 14:56

Moisture surge isn't a moisturizer. It is a hyaluronic acid serum. You need to put a Moisturiser on top to lock in moisture.

ElsieMc · 27/12/2020 14:58

I have the Clinique yellow moisturiser in the more intense strength. I have the opposite problem as it won't soak into my skin and I am old and dry. I am using nivea soft now and it is better.

Laiste · 27/12/2020 15:09

Sometimes if it feels as if moisturiser isn't 'soaking in' it can be because you are trying to apply too much, OR you need to up your exfoliation.

A common symptom of unexfoliated skin is that it seems that it wont absorb moisture very well, and/or that the moisturiser streaks white or bobbly on the skin and just sits on top. This can be because that top layer of dead skin is just swishing around in the cream causing a barrier. Moisturising dead skin is a waste of time and money.

80sColourfulChristmas · 27/12/2020 15:24

@Twickerhun You put it on top of makeup???? Xmas Shock

Twickerhun · 27/12/2020 15:32

Yep. Works wonders. Very very light layer. Think I read about it on style and beauty on here and it works.

WellTidy · 27/12/2020 15:35

Elsie I don’t know if it is the same now, but when I used Clinique three step (about 15 years ago) the yellow dramatically different moisturiser lotion would never absorb if I hadn’t used a Clinique toner first. I used to be number 2.

billybullshitterz1n · 27/12/2020 15:54

Only this that agrees with my face and I've tried em all

TheSilentStars · 27/12/2020 15:58

It's a normal moisturizer (supposedly rich and lasting) and it's shite.

I have fairly dry skin and fell for the beauty editors and Insta gurus bigging it up all the time and bought some. It's possibly the least hydrating moisturizer I've ever had.
I got some free samples of Dramatically Different with it and that's a better hydrator.

I'm using up mine as a morning moisturizer under make up but it certainly wouldn't do for me as a night time one.

No it isn't. There might be a HA serum in the range, but the one we are all talking about is the moisturizing gel cream.
Whatup · 27/12/2020 16:01

It's my favourite light moisturiser I love it for my greasy skin. The hydrating night mask is good too and more intense.

Whatup · 27/12/2020 16:04

I think Clinique do like online web chat and give you some better recommendations.

YakkityYakYakYak · 27/12/2020 16:06

No, I love it! I use it every morning. I have fairly oily skin though and find the gel creams are much less clogging than moisturisers. I’m not sure they’re the best thing for dry skin types though really.
It’s expensive so a shame it’s not right for you.

TheSilentStars · 27/12/2020 16:06

You need to remember that back in the day, Clinique was a brand aimed at "problem" skin, which invariably meant "oily" and "blemish prone". They realised about 20 years ago that the white coats and branding themselves almost as medicinal spot busting gurus wasn't seen as "attractive" marketing so they ditched all that and went more mainstream beauty counter in their approach. But most of their product ranges remain geared towards the oily rather than the dry. Lots of oil free stuff etc. And all fragrance free.
I love Clinique make up, and Torso balm, but their skincare is just too harsh for most dry skins.
Someone commented about how ineffective they found MS on Nadine Baggott's insta (she is always recommending it) and she said how surprised she was, and that this person must have very dry skin. Well, yes, some people do!

JanewaysBun · 27/12/2020 16:06

I LOVE moisture surge, makes my face feel so plump and dewey!

JanewaysBun · 27/12/2020 16:07

(I have combination skin, ibisially get an oil free moisturiser because if this can't remember of MS has oil or not)

TheSilentStars · 27/12/2020 16:07

Torso balm?
Wtf am I on about Confused
I don't think anyone does one of those yet. Grin

partyatthepalace · 27/12/2020 16:09

I think that it’s for de-hydrated skin not for dry skin. If your skin is dry you are going to need some oil also - or just give it away. (Google dry vs dehydrated skin.)

My skin is both dry and dehydrated (yay!)and moisture surge works for me if I use a face oil with it. But usually I use a rich cream and a hydrating serum instead.

6hoursawayfromdisaster · 27/12/2020 16:12

Laiste Given I was on layer 4 its potentially possible that some might say I was maybe putting on too much...

Yanbu

Sciurus83 · 27/12/2020 16:16

It is a great product but you aren't using it the way you're meant to, it doesn't give immediate results that just putting more on will increase. You need to use it daily for a month and the active ingredients will work the way they are meant to. If you want something really thick that will make your skin fell instantly moust just whack on some Nivea. But that won't work in the long term, the Clinique will

6hoursawayfromdisaster · 27/12/2020 16:18

Im definitely dry skinned rather than dehydrated. I wish I was dehydrated because then the water I guzzle and omega oil supplements might make a difference, but its clinically dry.

It sounds as though maybe a HA serum, then MS and maybe my normal moisturizer on top might be what gives me the result I'm looking for.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/12/2020 16:27

I love it, it's the only moisturiser that actually works for me and doesn't leave a greasy layer.

thisplaceisweird · 27/12/2020 17:55

Give it more than 5 minutes!!! Also maybe drink some water if your skin is so dry
