I live in a field surrounded by Tier 3 and Tier 4.

I am bored, there’s nothing to do l.

YABU = leave them up until 6 Jan and then have a mad panic

YANBU = take them down now and then clean the house from top to bottom, glaring at the family while they do sfa on their PS4 (not 5), switches and phones

Oh ffs, Christmas Decs!! The decorations.

I don’t know any secretaries and I wouldn’t demean them even if I did.

I'll be taking mine down tomorrow. I'll be back at work and in a mad rush otherwise, so best to do it whilst the kids are at Nannys (our support bubble) for a few hours tomorrow morning.

wowfudge · 27/12/2020 11:31

Find something else to do instead? Maybe something for you? The obsession with ripping down the Christmas decorations as soon as possible is a weird one.

lockedownloretta · 27/12/2020 11:32

Read a book, go for a walk, draw a picture, phone a friend, sort through a cupboard, do a jigsaw, anything other than passively aggressively dismantling Christmas on the 3rd day of the festival!

Thomasina79 · 27/12/2020 11:32

It’s your house, if you want to take them down today then do so!

We generally take them down round about New Year’s Day, as they start to get on our nerves and the tree dropping its needles becomes annoying.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 27/12/2020 11:32

I'm itching to take mine down too. I like to enjoy the rest of my break from work in a calm clean and tidy house. Everyone else loves them though so they invariably stay up a week after I'd like.

Lockheart · 27/12/2020 11:34

Do you not have any books to read, music to enjoy, any TV you'd like to watch, indoor-type hobbies?

Join the family on the PS4. Read the news. Download Duolingo and start learning a new language.

Boredom is what you make it.

KnowingMeKnowingYule · 27/12/2020 11:34

Just done it here :)

Mincepiehangover · 27/12/2020 11:34

I think this is the trouble when people put them up so early - ours went up on the 15th so not bored of them yet. But there is nothing to do at the moment so totally understand OP! Your house, your choice x

Nowaynothappening · 27/12/2020 11:34

I’m bored today too. The DC are tidying their rooms, DH is doing a bit of DIY but I did all of my cleaning yesterday so I’m bored Grin. Also staring at the tree thinking it’s looking a little sorry now, the lower branches are bare thanks to being knocked by the presents.

Terracottasaur · 27/12/2020 11:37

Don’t ruin things for your family by being a passive aggressive martyr! This is the time for relaxing and not going mad with chores.

Why not make yourself a coffee in a travel mug and go for a nice long walk to blow away the cobwebs?

AlrightTreacle · 27/12/2020 11:40

Your house, your rules. I never take mine down before the 6th of January as it's traditional with the 12 days of Christmas. But it only went up about a week ago, so not too sick of it yet.

Why don't you have a Marie Kondo style clear out of your wardrobe instead? Take a walk, read a book, have a bath.

IAmAMalenkyBitPoogly · 27/12/2020 11:50

"Boredom is what you make it."

I know you're probably trying to be helpful Lockhart and you have made suggestions, but seriously reading statements like that makes me think oh just fuck off

I think at this stage of such a shit year, people have bored moments and other people guilting them for it, isn't going to help.

(Don't take the deccies down @BillLius, write your job description for a Christmas Secretary and I'll apply Grin Imagine all the work I could get from MN from people who want to delegate it all! I love Christmas Xmas Smile)

IAmAMalenkyBitPoogly · 27/12/2020 11:53

Also I imagine (admittedly I'm not in this position myself) someone living "in a field surrounded by Tier 3 and Tier 4" has, this year, gone for lots and lots of walks and it may be wearing thin as a method of relieving boredom.

BillLius · 27/12/2020 11:55

It’s my house (party) so I’ll be a passive aggressive martyr if I want to!

I can’t go out, the Covid people from Tier 4 are breaking the rules and are wandering around the village in their townie clothes so we are staying inside until it’s dark and then we can go outside again

Why are you so bored? Get your family to put their machines down and play a game or something. Wish my visitors were still here so we could carry on Christmassing.

I'm in a similar position. The oceans of endless mud that make a walk a chore not a pleasure isn't helping.

Totally sick of it. This is not a life it's an existance

BillLius · 27/12/2020 12:00

Yes, @IAmAMalenkyBitPoogly has got it in one. This is why people in mini skirts and ankle boots are clearly not local and are sticking out.

Start a side business? There tonnes of things you could do, obviously take the Dec's down if you want but I'm always shocked at people saying they're bored in the lockdown, maybe it's cus I'm am only child who has always had to entertain herself but we have so much free time right now and I think it's amazing and there's so much stuff to do.

BillLius · 27/12/2020 12:01

Oh,did my photo not load?

DressingGownofDoom · 27/12/2020 12:01

I'm bored too OP. It's bloody snowing here, I'm not going out for a wet freezing walk!

BillLius · 27/12/2020 12:02

Oops, wrong photo. Those people are wearing sensible boots and wellies.

Ours came down last night. Would usually keep them up longer, but after 1 year snook in behind the tree and then became entangled, it was the best thing to do. I’d also had enough of rescuing baubles from him too!

No, that's the joy of putting them up early! Enjoy them for a long run up and then pack them all away before the New Year. The thought of coming back from work and school in January with them still up actually gives me the hives.
