Had an on-off dry cough, a bit chest hurty for about 2 hours now. Not fucking funny. I feel fine otherwise.

If you have a cough tonight, lay on your front in bed. It takes the pressure off your lungs a bit.

RuthW · 25/12/2020 22:38

My dd has had a slight cough and sore throat. We only tested her to rule it out as it was Christmas. (We have tests at work staff can use). It was positive and so was the government test. Today she has a cold, so no symptoms to warrant a test but she's positive.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/12/2020 22:41

Sounds persistent so book a test

PugInTheHouse · 25/12/2020 22:43

Why wouldn't you book a test tonight? Surely as soon as possible is better?

Viviennemary · 25/12/2020 22:49

Take your temperature.

Designingheaven · 25/12/2020 22:49

I currently have Covid. Positive test came in this morning (happy Christmas to me) I don’t have the cough. First symptom was a fat headache and temperature, exhaustion, sore throat and tight chest. I am 28, female and I smoke. I’m 5 days in and it’s got better today but obviously we still can’t see anyone on Christmas Day. I also have a friend in London with no cough but has tested positive.

Usernamqwerty · 25/12/2020 22:52

Get well soon OP xx

Thank you both Flowers

Itawapuddytat · 25/12/2020 22:56

According to the NHS guidelines, a new persistent cough is “coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours” If this is your case, OP, please self isolate and book a test tomorrow. I hope it is a false alarm and that, whatever it is, you feel better soon.

Haenow · 25/12/2020 22:56

I’m sorry things are piling up on top of you. Flowers get the test, hopefully it’ll put your mind at rest. Look after yourself, rest!!

Witchend · 25/12/2020 22:57

Hope you're alright.

But you do need to book a test. It's rife in schools currently, but they may have been asymptomatic.

Hope you feel better soon @Designingheaven.

I know it’s going to sound silly, but I actually get those symptoms with indigestion. If I take some Gaviscon Advanced it will subside within the hour.
Yes of course get tested if in doubt but I’d be reaching for the Gaviscon first (particularly after a hefty Christmas dinner)

rattlemehearties · 25/12/2020 23:06

generally we wait because we don’t want to waste NHS time when it is so precious.

Wanna bet it's not NHS staff who will be testing you but contractors. You can go online and book a test now for tomorrow. Don't put it off because it'll be 24-48 hours for results (isolation) regardless.

elfycat · 25/12/2020 23:22

@Itsseweasy

I get those symptoms with my heartburn too. Had a dreadful cough a few days ago and it was the mince pies Grin. The referred pain in my shoulder blades/back is incredible. Gaviscon is my best friend.

OP you need a test to check. This is not the time to be complacent but fingers crossed it's something else, or very very mild for you.

Designingheaven · 25/12/2020 23:33

Also I know a lot of people are saying the cough is the main sign, neither my partner have even the slightest cough but we are both poorly. This is the case for a lot of people apparently. Worth getting a test if you feel hot, have a headache and have the feeling that you’re coming down with a cold. That would be my advice. The results are taking around 3-4 days at the moment, the woman I spoke to today said there’s been a huge influx of tests being done (a lot of people are getting them to be safe around loved ones but it’s actually unfair that people who are ill have to wait even longer because of it).

lborgia · 26/12/2020 00:29

I’m not talking about the mould you’re used to, I’m talking about a sudden increase in one or more kinds, which are often a decent hazard post-flooding.

As to the other stuff, up to you obviously, but you did post. I’m not worried about you not being able to care for your children, I’m wondering about how they would feel if you were in hospital etc., presumably they would care.

Hope is well tomorrow.

VulvaPerson · 26/12/2020 01:21

Most likely is just a cough.

(Obviously isolation can end if you get a negative test - fingers crossed for you!)
Did the rules change? Last I heard you were still meant to isolate even with negative test, if you still had the symptoms. Which made it a little pointless testing in the first place for many.

TurquoiseDress · 26/12/2020 01:27

Book a Covid test?

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 26/12/2020 01:57

@VulvaPerson - I just checked again... The OP and housesehold need to self isolate now for 10 days. If OP gets a negative test the other members of household can stop isolating (if no symptoms) but you are right - OP needs to continues isolating for the full 10 days anyway. The rules have been criminally badly communicated!
