Please tell me it’s just a fucking cough

Had an on-off dry cough, a bit chest hurty for about 2 hours now. Not fucking funny. I feel fine otherwise.

You have two children, you’re a cardiac patient, and you’re drinking? In a flood area. Having already been flooded.

I’ve deleted my thoughts 5 times, lets just say I’d count “reckless” as a mild rebuke.

It’s possible the flooding has triggered some mold, which can start really quickly, but you won’t know that if you’re too boozed up to drive, and can’t go to the hospital.

Scottishskifun · 25/12/2020 21:44

@Bunnyfuller the slots for the following day are released at 8pm the night before so you can book one this evening.

Honestly it's best for peace of mind especially given your husbands job is in a public facing role.

ProbablyFault · 25/12/2020 21:45

@TaraR2020, I'm pretty sure that just isn't true.

TheGoogleMum · 25/12/2020 21:46

I think you should isolate and book a test, sorry. Hope you feel better soon

ImPrincessAurora · 25/12/2020 21:48

Agree get a test. Sorry OP.
My DC said they had a headache, went to bed. That night they coughed. Next morning coughed. Booked them a test for lunchtime and isolated fully expected it to be nothing. 4 days later got the result. Positive.
We are in a t4 area so not surprised but the cough wasn’t anything like I had imagined it would be.

Gandalf456 · 25/12/2020 21:48

Op won't get a test today anyway and there are always taxis or an ambulance in an emergency

Bunnyfuller · 25/12/2020 21:49

@iborgia I appreciate the sentiments. I live in a 400 yr old cottage, and if we flood there’s no way out of the village, sober or otherwise. We’d be wading to a neighbour who is a bit uphill.

The children are 14 and 15 and taller than me. In the UK, unless your heart is about to go bang it’s generally a ‘do keep calm, dear, you’re medicated’.

2 glasses of wine is illegal for driving here, so I’m hardly rave dancing and staggering.

Honestly, mumsnet, seriously. But thank you.

Please book a test. And self isolate until you have the results.

Keepdistance · 25/12/2020 21:51

Probably qvoid the alcohol as it's dehydrating and i think if you had covid you need to stay hydratedy

Bunnyfuller · 25/12/2020 21:51

Also, @iborgia we probably already have every type of mould in the house. Cottages aren’t terribly 20th century. Or aseptic.

ImPrincessAurora - DD had a cough/temp back in March which was at the time how a COVID cough appeared to be - I also had a cough/temp and glass like feeling in my lungs but no test (you didnt in March)

This time DS has a snotty blocked nose and little smell for a day and DH had what I would call a normal cold and the cough was different to DD in March. Both positive though

Fieldofyellowflowers · 25/12/2020 21:56

Only a test can tell you that. Get a test, stay indoors until a negative result comes back. I hope you have a quick recovery o matter what the diagnosis is.

Shieldingending · 25/12/2020 22:00

You know you need to test... I've had the same symptoms for weeks and had 2 negative tests but you need to make sure. Hope you're ok, and that the floods don't reach you

countbackfromten · 25/12/2020 22:03

Please please please book a test and you need to self isolate from now until you have a test and get the results. Please do this, I’m an intensive care doctor and we need people to continue to take this seriously and that is a new persistent cough. You need a swab!!!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 25/12/2020 22:07

Why do so many people on here want to wait to see if their symptoms get any worse before they get a test?

Humpty11 · 25/12/2020 22:09

Completely off topic but red wine is good for cardiac patients - one of the cardiologists at work still prescribes it for our patients! Enjoy your Christmas evening, hopefully it’s just because of the excitement from today! I agree with others about testing though, just for peace of mind!

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 25/12/2020 22:10

You need to get tested ASAP but more importantly you and your household need to self isolate for 10 days. The rules are very clear on this.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 25/12/2020 22:12

(Obviously isolation can end if you get a negative test - fingers crossed for you!)

EagleFlight · 25/12/2020 22:13

From your description, I would be expecting it to be a cold over covid but regardless you need a test and that’s whether it gets worse or not. Many people only cough for a short amount of time or not at all.

Bunnyfuller · 25/12/2020 22:22

Thanks all. I’m the cardiac patient who ignored cardiac chest pain for 4 days (believe it or not, because Google said it was cardiac, and we all know Google says you gunna die every time!).

I’ve had pneumonia before and the chest ache is ringing bells in terms of the type of cough, so barring any changes I will book a test in the morning and have made a bed on the sofa.

And in answer to @Iminaglasscaseofemotion - generally we wait because we don’t want to waste NHS time when it is so precious.

I’m not coughing as often now so hopefully it’s just an over active health radar!

I do appreciate the advice, really. I don’t mean to sound blasé. I’m a little fatalistic since the heart issues.

Put down the drink, if you’ve got covid it’ll make you feel worse.

Get a test tomorrow.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 25/12/2020 22:31

And in answer to@Iminaglasscaseofemotion- generally we wait because we don’t want to waste NHS time when it is so precious.

Yeah, I don't think they want you to wait when it comes to being tested for covid.

jessstan1 · 25/12/2020 22:32

Get some Benylin.

diamondpony80 · 25/12/2020 22:33

It may well be just a cough. Me and DS both had a really persistent one 2 weeks ago (non stop at night). She had a runny nose as well and I had a cough only. Both negative, but you need to know.

lyinginthegutterstaringatstars · 25/12/2020 22:34

Wouldn't hurt to do a test. Put your mind at rest too.
