Got a mate of mine a bottle of wine for Christmas - is it a shit gift? Should I have got her something more thoughtful? It's her favourite wine.

Just reading the thread about the Thortons chocs and it got me thinking

It’s a good gift

I think it's a great gift. That Thornton thread was a bit odd, I think wine and / or chocs are always well received! They certainly always are in my house.

I got a bottle of wine from a friend think it's my fave gift going to open it now. To drown my sorrows about the £10 worth of tat my tight partner brought me.

It's fine...more of a token gift than a gift gift.. but I'd be happy with anything

caperplips · 25/12/2020 17:19

I love to get a nice bottle of wine as present. Or decent chocolates
I'd far prefer that than a cheap bottle of perfume or a scarf etc

As long as it isn't Black Tower

IMNOTSHOUTING · 25/12/2020 17:36

Her favourite wine is a thoughtful gift you know she'll use and enjoy. Most of us accumulate too much junk at Christmas - I much prefer consumables.

Proudboomer · 25/12/2020 17:42

I don’t drink so it would be a shit gift for me but I would enjoy a B&H soap set which most on here think is a shitty gift and if you are given one then that person obviously hates you.

MispyM · 25/12/2020 17:44

I like getting wine.

something I'll use (up), hopefully enjoy and won't have to keep around. Perfect.

Consumables the person likes are always better than more stuff!

LadyEloise · 25/12/2020 18:41

No, unless the recipient is a teetotaller or alcoholic.

I'd be delighted with any gift from a friend but most of my friends have stopped doing gifts for other adults. I think it's absolutely fine, who wouldn't like a bottle of their favourite wine. Don't stress.

I mean the thought is in the thinking to buy something for someone, to my mind.
