Accept weight gain or try and lose it

Hi,

so basically when lockdown started back in March, I decided enough was enough and started to cut down on junk, snacks etc. I did this through intermittent fasting and regular walking/jogging to get out the house. I started at a size 14/16 and by October I had reached a 8/10 (I'm 5ft7). I stopped watching what I was eating from around the end of October and through to November and now. This was due to going back to work and another lockdown began.

I was getting ready the other day to go shopping and I couldn't get into my jeans. My tshirts were tight and my coat was difficult to zip up. DH bought me some new clothes as a reward/treat after I had managed to lose the weight. I did keep my bigger clothes so luckily I have something to wear.

I haven't told DH that the new clothes are a bit tight. Is it worth trying to lose the weight to fit back into them or should I just allow myself to eat what I want and not worry?

I think I'll have to watch what I eat most of the time though

I did when I was Intermittent fasting.

I mean in one sitting. If you can eat smaller portions and drink water afterwards if you're still a bit hungry, eventually your appetite should lower.

Almost every single slim person I know, eats less than most overweight people I know (well those whose eating habits I've seen). That way they get to eat what they want and not worry about it.

Great tip. I must try and implement that when I am eating.

@LilaButterfly

I think you need to find your happy weight. Ive been every weight from 7.5 to 10.5stone. Its almost impossible to maintain 7.5, which puts me on a healthy bmi, but borderline underweight (im short). I cant eat anything and its really stressful. Atm im 8st and i feel comfortable while still being able to enjoy food. I have to watch what i eat to stay at this weight, but i dont have to count calories every day. A couple kilos less is just not worth the effort. Find out at what weight you feel healthy and good, but still lets you enjoy junk every once in a while and then try to stick to that.
Yes sometimes a low weight is hard to maintain, especially if its not a natural weight.

I think I'll have to watch what I eat.

Hoping my clothes fit again soon!

@sirfredfredgeorge

Most people put on weight at christmas, and most people don't lose it again, in normal times, the inactivity and extra eating and drinking of christmas adds a few pounds, and then the next christmas it happens again, and the more overweight you start, the more you gain.

Watching what you eat and drink over the couple of weeks of this time is actually worth more to most people in preventing weight gain compared to do it the rest of the year (as adults - In children it's generally the summer where holidays excess weight is typically gained, that you need to watch)

So try and do something to keep the weight off - getting active has the double impact of burning extra calories and preventing any snacking - but avoid denying yourself too much as that's not the way to controlled weight.

I will get out the house today and go for a walk. I want to get back into jogging and hopefully start running

I didn't follow my own advice OP and ended up drinking and scoffing 4000 calories on Xmas Eve. There is just no need to. 😩

Lampzade · 25/12/2020 12:18

I eat what I want Christmas Eve to Boxing Day and then I am more careful,
I think January 2nd is too far away. You could easily put on another half a stone

I'm doing IF and loving it. I also know that it will stay as my lifestyle forevermore as otherwise, the pounds will creep back. Fortunately, I enjoy the long fasting windows and couldn't eat before 4 pm anyway.
Don't accept the gain, you know now how to get rid of it.

Nothing tastes as good as my "skinny jeans" feel

You have done BRILLIANTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't throw it away.

Follow others advice on here .... allow yourself a little slack over Christmas but only one or two days....

Get back to Intermittent Fasting AS SOON AS POSSIBLE - it is so good for you and not just for losing weight. And even if you are eating a bit much it will mean you gain less.

And the biggest thing I learnt from the Dukan Diet is that when you have just lost a shed load of weight your body is doing everything it can to put it back on again... his advice was to eat VERY CAUTIOUSLY for several months (5 days for each pound lost - for me that was around 7 months!) .... and by then your weight has recalibrated and you can relax a bit. He actually does it in stages, slowly adding things back in ... but the basic principle is sound.

So set a date and go for it!!!

Good luck and well done!

I don't want to throw it away. I have my new clothes to wear again.

I will be starting IF again soon.

I need a maintenance plan

@NeonSparkle I feel that strict is the only way for me. As it shows that as soon as I stop watching what I'm eating, I'm bursting out of my clothes :)

@PandaBearCub I was never hungry doing IF. I'd say it was a good routine but since I went back to work, Its basically eat what I can when I can. I have been a 10 many years ago but not for a while.

I lost about 4lbs since early Nov and if I maintain over Xmas I’ll be happy. Will blow out for a couple of days and get back on it after Boxing Day until NYE- hopefully won’t gain!! Making sure I’m exercising.
Well done for the loss.

qwerty45 · 25/12/2020 16:02

@JustDanceAddict well done on the 4lbs.

I just cant keep my weight off haha

That's good qwerty, if you can fast for a long time it does suggest your hormones at least are in pretty good condition so your not metabolically unfit, which makes getting to and keeping a healthy weight easier.

Well done for not waiting!

I just want to get back into my clothes. If I'd have waited till January, I might have ended up heavier!

OP posts:

I've tried on my smaller clothes and they are a good way from fitting.

I will weigh in later (if I can bring myself to do it) and will update the results later
