Accept weight gain or try and lose it

Hi,

so basically when lockdown started back in March, I decided enough was enough and started to cut down on junk, snacks etc. I did this through intermittent fasting and regular walking/jogging to get out the house. I started at a size 14/16 and by October I had reached a 8/10 (I'm 5ft7). I stopped watching what I was eating from around the end of October and through to November and now. This was due to going back to work and another lockdown began.

I was getting ready the other day to go shopping and I couldn't get into my jeans. My tshirts were tight and my coat was difficult to zip up. DH bought me some new clothes as a reward/treat after I had managed to lose the weight. I did keep my bigger clothes so luckily I have something to wear.

I haven't told DH that the new clothes are a bit tight. Is it worth trying to lose the weight to fit back into them or should I just allow myself to eat what I want and not worry?

I think I'll have to watch what I eat most of the time though

Enjoy Christmas & then back to it in January.
I lost 2.5 stone last year, a bit of it has creeped back on but it'll be off again next year. I've now realised to be the weight I want I'm going to need to watch what I eat most of the time and I'm fine with that. I was much more comfortable within myself at the lower weight so I need to do it.

qwerty45 · 24/12/2020 16:26

@idril exactly. I want to nip it in the bud. If I don't, I'll end up back where I started.

Good job I haven't binned or sold any of my larger clothes. I'd have nothing to wear

@QueenAnnaOfArrandale well done on the loss. Thats amazing. I felt more confident and content within myself at the lower weight and size too.

@qwerty45 Thank you! If you felt better then I think that answers the question of if you should try to get it off again. It's all about how you feel so if you'll feel better then enjoy Christmas & get back to it in January! I think everyone has had a bit of a nightmare with weight this year!

heseesyouwhenyouaresleeping · 24/12/2020 16:41

DO NOT GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK AT CHRISTMAS

yes, indulge a bit on Christmas Day but that's ONE DAY. Don't stuff yourself silly during the entire festive season, you will end up depressed about in January.

Eat reasonable, just check your portions at the very least.

If you can, go for a few run between Christmas and new Year too.

You can enjoy food but stick to reasonable amount. I never understand these people who over-eat at Christmas and fall into a food coma in front of the tv for the rest of the day. I don't call that fun personally.

qwerty45 · 24/12/2020 16:41

@OoohTheStatsDontLie I feel healthy. I was happy with how I looked when I was a 8/10. I haven't weighed myself. I have been snacking more and eating when I can due to work.

I just need a routine. I think thats what will work best. I just hope I can fit back into my slimmer clothes

@heseesyouwhenyouaresleeping I must remember "DO NOT GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK AT CHRISTMAS" when I'm eating tomorrow!

I didn't mean Christmas Day, I meant more the entire festive season.
You can eat well without overeating so much you feel sick though.

A big lunch or a big diner ONCE is not going to make you bigger.

qwerty45 · 24/12/2020 16:50

@heseesyouwhenyouaresleeping yes true :)

I need to start exercising again.

Smaller clothes i'm coming for you

Lose the weight - there are so many health benefits to doing so. You've done it before so you can do it again.

It's easy enough to go through Christmas enjoying food without overdoing it or cutting it back so you feel hard done by. A bit less wine (not none), not snacking, going out for a fast walk for 5 minutes longer. Small things add up! I'm trying to remember this.

I agree. The health benefits have been worth it for me. I felt less tired, more energy, not as hungry.

Its easier said than done with those festive tips :)

Always relose - I would never accept going up a size if I knew it was down to over indulgence. It’s how I’ve stayed a 8/10 my whole adult life. I’d be 3 stone heavier without this approach.

qwerty45 · 24/12/2020 16:55

@Hollyhead amazing. Well done you. I just want to wear my new clothes (even though I can't go out in them!)

Definitely aim to lose the extra weight. People dont suddenly wake up 4 stone heavier. It is by ignoring the few pounds here and there. Ive a few extra pounds atm due to sustaining an injury that out me on crutches, which is going to get worse as im now isolating as i have covid. But as soon as im fit i will be back to exercise. In the mean time its all on sensible eating... and leas baileys.

Im quite shocked how many posters on this thread equate enjoying yourself with over-eating.

WorraLiberty · 24/12/2020 16:59

You probably need to get used to eating less, that way you can eat whatever your want.

It does take time, but eventually your appetite will lower and you'll feel full up quicker.

heseesyouwhenyouaresleeping · 24/12/2020 17:01

very true

and that's why pushing yourself to eat too much because its' Christmas makes no sense at all.

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/12/2020 17:03

Never accept it because old age brings enough problems you can’t prevent, there’s no need to invite in lifestyle mediated illness too for a party.

I did when I was Intermittent fasting.

Yes people gradually put on weight and don't notice.

I've certainly noticed it because the smaller clothes don't fit.

I am not, have you never witnessed the hysteria the day before Christmas in all supermarkets? Grin

qwerty45 · 24/12/2020 17:11

@OfaFrenchmind2

I have accepted that between the 1st of December till end of January (January is for galettes and raclettes!) I will gain weight, because I want to refuse myself nothing during the darker months. So I go all out with no guilt. Then I scale back the food indulgences and step a bit up my exercise as soon as February starts.. No pressure, all is expected, and it works well. By mid-march I am back to normal, and fit as a fiddle.

What weight have you been through your life? I am wondering what weight you can settle at without too much effort.
big and small. I've been on and off diets.

I think you need to find your happy weight. Ive been every weight from 7.5 to 10.5stone.
Its almost impossible to maintain 7.5, which puts me on a healthy bmi, but borderline underweight (im short). I cant eat anything and its really stressful. Atm im 8st and i feel comfortable while still being able to enjoy food.
I have to watch what i eat to stay at this weight, but i dont have to count calories every day. A couple kilos less is just not worth the effort.
Find out at what weight you feel healthy and good, but still lets you enjoy junk every once in a while and then try to stick to that.
