Just that really Smile
DMIL is cooking her turkey tomorrow but I’d be too stressed to cook it on the day

Nope. I've made my nut loaf and veggie gravy, also done the red cabbage and the dessert but the meat itself tastes better cooked on the day IMO

FaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaBlah · 24/12/2020 11:00

We’re having gammon. I’m boiling it today then I’ll glaze and roast tomorrow

GintyMcGinty · 24/12/2020 11:01

Today

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/12/2020 11:01

No. The smell of the turkey cooking is one of the good things about Christmas Day. I also think it's tastier freshly cooked and rested while the roast potatoes and parsnips cook.

WorraLiberty · 24/12/2020 11:02

DH will cook the gammon and turkey crown tomorrow morning for a 3pm dinner.

LBOCS2 · 24/12/2020 11:03

Nope, tomorrow (lamb guard of honour). I am doing a ham today though, which we'll nibble at over the next couple of days.

BestIsWest · 24/12/2020 11:03

Yes, got the gammon boiling in coke now and will do the turkey later that’s afternoon. Warm Turkey sandwiches have been a Christmas Eve tradition in my family since I was little.

Pechanga · 24/12/2020 11:04

I always cook and carve my turkey the day before!

However tomorrow we're having roast beef instead so will cook that on the day.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 24/12/2020 11:05

Ours has just gone in

Chemenger · 24/12/2020 11:08

I’ll be cooking it tomorrow, I don’t see what’s stressful about that, it’s a matter of 10 minutes to get it ready to go in the oven then nothing much to do until it comes out (I’m too lazy to baste it). It comes out of the oven to rest then everything else goes in.

Alice190720 · 24/12/2020 11:11

Finding the time is stressful, we live in a. Tier 2 area and have been asked to go to DPs nans in the morning then MILs in the afternoon before coming home for tea so don’t really have time tomorrow

fairydustandpixies · 24/12/2020 11:11

Nope. I'll be microwaving my weight watchers meal for one when I feel hungry.

Bastarding virus not allowing me to travel to see my family...

Ouchiehelpneeded · 24/12/2020 11:11

Do you reheat it? Or serve it cold?

I can't imagine either option makes the most of the turkey..

WorraLiberty · 24/12/2020 11:18

That's what I was thinking and ditto with the gammon.
GintyMcGinty · 24/12/2020 11:19

How do you all store your turkeys overnight if you cook them today?

Honeyroar · 24/12/2020 11:20

As long as you put it in at the right time I don’t see what’s stressful about cooking a turkey really. But each to their own.

Chemenger · 24/12/2020 11:21

Makes perfect sense if you have to be out in the morning. Not something I’ve ever had to do ( or could do this year). My DM used to be a guide leader and the first meal at camp was always roast turkey reheated in gravy (slightly smoked over a wood fire).

GintyMcGinty · 24/12/2020 11:21

"Do you reheat it? Or serve it cold?

Slice it, cover in turkey jelly, cover with foil and pop in the oven to warm up.

The jelly ensures the turkey is lovely and moist

MillieVanilla · 24/12/2020 11:23

Mines already in on 100 (our oven is shite and I'm also doing beef wellington so I want it cooked by tomorrow mid morning)
Everything is pretty much prepped
I've learned over the years the more you can spread over the days before Christmas day the more you can actually enjoy the day itself.

OverTheRainbow88 · 24/12/2020 11:24

We cooked it yesterday, has Turkey curry for tea last night, and planning a Turkey sandwich for lunch today. We ordered a large one thinking we were hosting but that changed. Will have Turkey fajitas Boxing Day 🤣

TeenPlusTwenties · 24/12/2020 11:25

I tried cooking it on Christmas eve a couple of years back.
To be honest it just seemed to make twice as much work somehow.

This year it is just 3 of us and I'm still doing the whole thing tomorrow.

Though if you aren't actually at home on the day then I can see why doing it the day before and reheating makes sense.

LawnFever · 24/12/2020 11:26

Tomorrow, I don’t see what the panic is, it’s essentially a posh roast dinner Smile

helloxhristmas · 24/12/2020 11:28

Tomorrow - beef fillet but even when we have turkey I do it on the day. It just tastes better.

The ham is on now though.

ComtesseDeSpair · 24/12/2020 11:29

We’re doing it on the day as it will be deep fried in a vat of hot oil in the garden. Takes less than a couple of hours to cook a 7kg turkey through. God bless America.

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 24/12/2020 11:30

I’ve never heard of anyone cooking their turkey the day before!
I cooked ours a couple of days ago but only cos we’re having Xmas pizzas and not a full turkey
