Just that really Smile
DMIL is cooking her turkey tomorrow but I’d be too stressed to cook it on the day

We are having ours at 5pm (with the kids) so will cook it fresh on the day....

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/12/2020 14:23

No, never.
Turkey has to come to the table in all its golden glory.
Even when it’s a tiddly one just for me and dh.

I can’t understand people who cook the day before, slice it cold and warm up in gravy, ugh. It should be against the law!

GreenEyedDevil · 24/12/2020 17:10

We cook ours the day before and carve it on Christmas Day. We reheat it in the oven, and it’s never been dry.

HighSpecWhistle · 24/12/2020 17:15

I don't eat meat, but isn't it nicer fresh? I'd just cook on the day.

MrsRogerLima · 24/12/2020 17:24

Large capon chicken here. Will be cooked tomorrow as the DC will be up at silly AM tomorrow anyway.

Roasties are parboiled, mash is made, stuffing balls done, veg prepped.

Time for wine

PickAChew · 24/12/2020 17:29

I have a joint that takes less than 2 hours to cook, so no point cooking it ahead then faffing on. I'll just shove it in the oven after breakfast, then let it stand while I roast spuds and sides.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 24/12/2020 17:47

I'm considering it.

I have a $100 piece of beef in the fridge. We're forecast floods, gales and power cuts tomorrow. I'm not sure our generator is strong enough to power the oven.

Marmite27 · 24/12/2020 17:48

My ham is in the slow cooker, we have a chicken and piece of beef to cook tomorrow, but we have a massive range cooker with two ovens.

SquigglePigs · 24/12/2020 17:51

Normally it's done on the day but in an attempt to minimise kitchen time on the whole one day my parents get with us and their granddaughter it's been cooked today.

plominoagain · 24/12/2020 17:51

God no. Cooking Christmas dinner and having to supervise the turkey basting is what buys me a couple of hours peace.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 24/12/2020 18:12

No. We have roast beef which we like rare, so it wouldn't be improved by being cooked hours in advance. I do cook the gammon on Christmas Eve, but that's so we've got cold meat to pick at, its not part of dinner.

Dahlietta · 24/12/2020 18:17

I had no idea people did this. It's just a roast dinner!

Atrixie · 24/12/2020 18:26

I’ll do it in the morning, it’s hardly difficult to make a roast lunch,

I’ve never had gammon so no idea how to cook it or even what it is

U2HasTheEdge · 24/12/2020 18:31

Now finishing off in the oven.

I always do it the day before and it is always lovely the next day. We are having a buffet so will eat it cold this year most likely.

ForeverBubblegum · 24/12/2020 18:34

I will be, though that is because we are taking it cooked to our hosts (last minute change of location to most central household in our Christmas bubble)

BarefootInTheMoonlitSnow · 24/12/2020 18:36

I couldn’t face cooking something else today and having to cook again tomorrow so thought sod it, cooked the turkey et al today and we sat down and had Christmas dinner this afternoon.

I regret nothing

maryberryslayers · 24/12/2020 18:44

Gammon is currently boiling and will be glazed later.
Turkey goes in its bath tonight in the garage and will cook in the morning. The bath means it only takes 2-3 hours s to cook so no stress.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 24/12/2020 19:26

Mines cooked and so has the ham in the slow cooker. I'm working till 3 tomorrow

2Rebecca · 24/12/2020 19:28

No. Why would I? No large gatherings happen and we dont usually eat until 3ish xmas day

2Rebecca · 24/12/2020 19:31

I don't do travelling on xmas day if I can help it

2Rebecca · 24/12/2020 19:32

My pork loin will be cooked at the weekend. A turkey and stuffing etc is plenty for tomorrow

GrapeLipBalm · 24/12/2020 19:33

I do it on the day. I put it in with the potatoes and parsnips. Then fit the stuffing and pigs in blankets when the turkey is resting afterwards. (Imagining it reclining on a chaise longue)

AppleKatie · 24/12/2020 19:34

I did this a few years ago it was amazing- as was the leftover stir fry I did on Christmas Day 😂

It was driven by baby brain now, now DC aren’t babies I feel obliged to do it ‘properly’ for them.

Nottherealslimshady · 24/12/2020 19:35

No, I've prepped all my veg. We only have a small gammon joint so it'll be boiled in cola for 1.5hr, then maple roasted for 45 mins alongside the other oven stuff. I have all my timings written down Grin it wont be stressful at all, will barely be in the kitchen.

2Rebecca · 24/12/2020 19:35

The only things I'm making before are cranberry jelly and blinis
