Neighbour accepted my delivery but doesn’t have it

A gift was sent to Flat 2 accidentally, instead of to my Flat 12. My name was on the parcel, but it was addressed to Flat 2.

I asked the management company to call the neighbour at Flat 2 to see if they can leave the parcel outside their front door and I can pick it up. I wanted to avoid randomly showing up at their front door because of Covid.

The management company came back to say the neighbour said she hasn’t come across a parcel meant for me.

It’s not an expensive gift.

What would you do?

Contact the sender.

Palavah · 22/12/2020 15:23

I'd report it as not delivered. The courier will probably have a photo if it was delivered correctly.

Twickerhun · 22/12/2020 15:23

Go and knock yourself. Take a step back from the door before they open it (for covid). And ask them directly to please give you the parcel. Do you have proof of delivery to take?

NotOfThisWorld · 22/12/2020 15:25

Are you absolutely sure they have it? (It wasn't left outside or with a neighbour of theirs?). They may have accidentally opened it or chucked it in with all their deliveries (I once did this in my haste to hide all the boxes of presents I'd had delivered I hid one that had come for a neighbour - didn't notice till xmas eve by which point they'd had a replacement). I'd probably pop round and ask.

Nowaynothappening · 22/12/2020 15:25

Couriers now take photos to prove delivery so usually they’ll take a photo of it on the doorstep or if they leave it in a safe place then there. You usually receive the photo in the email confirming delivery. See whether it’s clearly on their doorstep or not in the photo.

All you can really do is contact the store you ordered it from and explain.

Yes hermes always take photos and you get the evidence emailed to you.
RedMarauder · 22/12/2020 15:52

@Littleyell I've found Hermes inconsistent with the photo taking.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 22/12/2020 15:55

Ask the sender to show you proof of delivery. I don't know why you didn't just knock at No.2. You say covid but if you wore a mask and stood back from the door it would have been safe.

Givemeabreak88 · 22/12/2020 15:57

Why wouldn’t you just knock Confused

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 22/12/2020 16:00

Did you give the sender the correct address?

If you did and they made the mistake then they have not delivered the item to the address on the contract they made with you. Tell them to send it again. Wont be here in time for xmas, but lots of people are in that situation with royal mail so the person should understand.

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 22/12/2020 16:02

A photo isnt going to help. It will be a photo at a door, and usually in flats all the doors and corridors look the same.

Anyway, it doesnt matter if they have a photo. The sender put it to the wrong address, the company will have delivered to that address. It isnt up to the OP or the courier company to sort this out it show proof. The sender wrote down the wrong address so needs to send it again, whatever proof there is.

Brighterthansunflowers · 22/12/2020 16:04

Knock on their door like a grown up. You can wear a mask and stand well back and it will be a thirty second encounter.

If they haven’t got it contact the sender. I would say there’s a far bigger chance the courier is telling lies than your neighbour

HelloDulling · 22/12/2020 16:05

Do you know for sure that it has been delivered? Royal Mail is hugely delayed, it might still be in transit.

Staffy1 · 22/12/2020 16:05

How do you know they accepted it? Does the sender have proof of that? As PP have said, contact the sender.

WorraLiberty · 22/12/2020 16:09

A photo wouldn't prove the neighbour had it though, just that it was left on their doorstep.

Actually it doesn't even prove that as I know someone who got sacked from Amazon for stealing the parcels she was delivering.

TatianaBis · 22/12/2020 16:10

This is entirely the responsibility of the company who send the parcel, they mis-addressesed.

They need to send you a replacement to the correct address.

TatianaBis · 22/12/2020 16:11

mis-addressed

It’s not even the courier’s fault in this case.

Palavah · 22/12/2020 16:11

Depends if they've taken a photo of the neighbour with the door open. If it's the wrong house entirely then it's a bit more straightforward
Redundant98 · 22/12/2020 16:14

Thanks all! I have found out from the sender that they sent the gift from Amazon and received a confirmation email about delivery. They have asked for proof of delivery, ie a photo. Hopefully Amazon will re-deliver.

According to DHL my parcel was delivered and handed to me directly but in reality, my package was opened and dumped on my doorstep (DD was home at the time). The courier says it was delivered to your neighbour but that doesn’t mean it was.

Redundant98 · 22/12/2020 16:15

Brighterthansunflowers

Erm...I am a grown up. I don't want to turn up to my neighbour and ask again, especially as they already said they don't have it. I don't want to cause any stress to others during this pandemic. I have many elderly neigbours. I have also not suggested my neighbours are lying.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 22/12/2020 16:17

Are the bins outside? You may want to check there it's usually where Amazon leave ours

Whatsnewpussyhat · 22/12/2020 16:18

Was it the company who put incorrect address or the person who sent the gift?

Luckyrabbitfoot · 22/12/2020 16:21

My neighbour accepted my parcel knowing they had COVID! I know this adds nothing to your dilemma but I’m still so mad about it Grin

Redundant98 · 22/12/2020 16:21

Whatsnewpussyhat The person sending the gift typed in the wrong flat number, and told Amazon, but they said it was too late.
