Just abandoned trolley in supermarket.......

Shops always busy at Christmas, I've just stupidly tried to pop in for a few things, first aisle got jammed in and couldn't move trolley round with out bumping someone, everywhere I turned trolleys and people darting around. Put my apples back, decided to go back later but still struggled to navigate round people. Get near doors decide to keep walking at this point as a man walk down my right side trying to cut across in front and because I decided to keep going, got called a F**king nut case and he kept calling me to the man behind me.

As I left I stated to the man behind that I'd spend a good while trying to stay out of people way that I didnt actually get anywhere and he was being a bit harsh, he replied well I never f**king said anything did I.
I need stuff but I'm I the only one to find the shops today so unbearable that I left and Im prepared to just get whats left later rather than deal with crowds like that.
Christ it had me dizzy and demented.

Sorry, just feel calmer already just typing my stress out!!!

Happy Days
Possibly, however it was busyenough that if you let everyone cross your path you would actually get anywhere! I did stay put for a moment deciding if I should abandon and had people swarming around so unless you assertively moved you'd be stuck.
Crossing paths has to move both ways.

Wouldn't get anywhere that should be!

I never go at peak times! throughout this year I've done my shopping at 6am in the morning and it's always pleasantly much less busy. I'm done and ready for work at 8am. If for some reason I didn't do super early, I go later on in the evening, again usually quiet.

no one died from not eating pigs in blankets, pringles or mince pies.

This is not a risk I’m willing to take.

Tootesuite
I did put my apples back! So no twats were put out or harmed in anyway.

I went to Waitrose at 10.45pm last night. No one there. Which was great.

Sorry misread your post just as you did mine

This is why I shop with headphones on can’t hear any stupid annoying people 😂

DrizzleandDamp · 22/12/2020 13:31

Oh god I’m dreading this, have booked a babysitter (against the rules but what can I do??) to go on Wednesday. The masks make me feel trapped enough due to PTSD and I cried in the car last week and couldn’t make myself go in so this will be a thousand times worse but I need food!

Oh this is a great call, I’m trying that!

Heyahun · 22/12/2020 13:32

Would recommend going late as possible - we went at 10.30 pm last night. There was nobody else there and we got everything we needed

dietingtomorrow · 22/12/2020 13:32

Who is eating all this extra food? Or is it mainly because of the 11th hour restrictions change?

tootesuite · 22/12/2020 13:32

Ah ok! Smile

Aside from covid my friend has worked in Asda twenty plus years, abandoned trolleys are common, folk have panic attacks feel unwell and abandon them every day. Please do not think you are odd @Milssofadoesntreallyfit

KatherineJaneway · 22/12/2020 13:34

Go really early or very late. Quietest times. Also a very helpful MNer said that if you use Google Maps and look for the supermarket you want to visit, it has a helpful indication of how busy the shop is.

Go at night borrow some roller skates, honestly I am dying to see a tik tok on someone skating around a supermarket. Would do it myself if I still could.

@tootesuite

YANBU to have a go at the twat but I feel sorry for shop staff who have to put away your shopping.
They are well used to it. Stuff happens.
DfEisashambles · 22/12/2020 13:37

Feeling very grateful for the reserved online shopping I did. I’d have left too.

hammeringinmyhead · 22/12/2020 13:38

Erm... 12 family members eating Christmas dinner last year in one house is the same number of dinners as 3 households of 4 this year. And results in more individual shoppers. How is it "extra" food?

Belladonna12 · 22/12/2020 13:38

I've decided I'm probably not going shopping for Christmas food before Christmas. DC are happy with cake and chocolate. Nobody cares that much about Turkey so I'm going to get chicken out of the freezer. We will have Christmas dinner a few days later.

You haven't reserved the food though. It still might be out of stock (unless it has already been delivered of course)
Fatas · 22/12/2020 13:40

This is why I went out yesterday at 5.40 after my baby awoke for a feed at 5. Was still a bit busy for my liking due to all the staff stocking shelves. Ah well. Get up nice and early tomorrow or try after 8 tonight?

SymphonyofShadows · 22/12/2020 13:41

I’ve got an M&S collection slot tomorrow at 8am. Apparently there’s a separate queue for that, but that’s assuming we can actually get anywhere near the retail park. I’ve seen pictures on Facebook of chaos at 6.30 this morning down there. DH is going, I’ve instructed him to abandon it if it’s really bad, and we’ll make do. Losing the deposit is better than getting the virus.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 22/12/2020 13:42

I feel your pain OP - it was WH Smiths that did for me - so busy trying to work out the one way system looking at the floor that I nearly took out a card display and bumped into at least two people. Started feeling like a card carrying liability and bottled it completely after five minutes of breathless "Sorry! Sorry! Sorry!"

Food shopping wasn't so bad but I did manage,in Sainsbury's, to clip a mop and bucket out because of a torrential downpour and missed another customer with the mop handle by inches. I've never felt quite so much like getting under the duvet and staying there. Possibly permanently.
