Quooker tap - for tea addict?

I'm posting this on AIBU so I can get the voting enabled Grin

So... I'm a serious (and fussy) tea addict - would I be disappointed by a quooker instead of a kettle for boiling water for tea?

Yes = I would be disappointed
No = I wouldn't notice the difference

We have one and it's amazing! So much easier and quicker

Spermysextowel · 22/12/2020 12:02

My sister has one & loves it. She’s also had 2 x 3hr power cuts in the last month, & the Quooker stayed hot enough to make tea with.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/12/2020 12:04

What's the flow rate like? They look like they'd take forever to produce a teapot full of water.

I know you don't have to wait for the kettle to boil, but there's no end of little jobs that need doing in a kitchen that you don't really notice. If I didn't have 'kettle boiling time' I don't think I'd ever get anything done.

CrotchBurn · 22/12/2020 12:06

Pics as dont know what this is and am too lazy to google

Me too! I race the kettle to empty the dishwasher in the morning (it's only a little dishwasher).

We have a Minerva (which is basically the same) and I love it. I may be a lot less fussy about tea than you though!

SimplyRadishing · 22/12/2020 13:13

We have professional equivalents in the office

They work great.

DelphineWalsh · 22/12/2020 13:16

Absolutely not, the change in oxygen in the water that is boiled and reboiled and then kept to (not high enough) temperature changes the taste of the flavour.

GU24Mum · 22/12/2020 13:18

Don't do it! I'm very fussy about tea too. Whatever they say, the water isn't the same from the Quookers and similar - and the tea just doesn't taste right!

UrAWizHarry · 22/12/2020 13:21

If you are fussy about tea, then yes you would be disappointed. Good tea needs freshy, only-boiled-once water.

Purpletomato · 22/12/2020 13:27

Two of my friends have one and I gave up drinking tea at their houses now as I find it tastes awful.

ZadieZadie · 22/12/2020 13:37

Nooooo.

It's not quite boiling, so makes crappy insipid tea.

(At least our office one does).

Firstinlastout · 22/12/2020 13:40

When you say it doesnt taste right,do you mean that chloriney kind of taste?.We sometimes get that with the kettle ,dont know what causes it ,but its bloody horrible.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 22/12/2020 13:41

No idea. But I bet they ramp up electricity bills 😬

zafferana · 22/12/2020 13:43

I have another brand (not Quooker) and I love it. I use it for everything though so there is a high turnover of water and it's on a timer so it's not on all night. It's useful for providing boiling water for veg, rice, pasta, etc as well as hot drinks.

tootesuite · 22/12/2020 13:44

We have the boiling taps at work, I hate the taste of tea from it. Our work at quick to change the filters regularly, I think it’s just the same water staying hot that makes it foamy?

FOJN · 22/12/2020 13:44

Fellow tea addict here. I had one once a few years ago and I stopped using it for tea, the water is just not the same and the replacement filters cost about the same as your average kettle.

partyatthepalace · 22/12/2020 13:47

They always taste weird to me - we have one in office and a couple of friends do.

Have wondered if it’s to do with water not boiling fully, but it seems to. PP mentioned it’s to do w the water being kept hot?

Anyway if you love tea, don’t. Not as bad w coffee but still not great.

schnubbins · 22/12/2020 13:47

It's fine for herbal tea but not good for black strong tea.We tried to stick it out with only the Quooker but have capitulated and bought a kettle again .Even the kids were in raptures about having a proper Barrys Tea again.

tier4fuckoff · 22/12/2020 13:51

Tea just isn't the same from these. And I'm not even fussy

sandieshaw · 22/12/2020 13:52

Don't do it @OP. We have them at work and in my client's office and it makes the tea taste awful. Fortunately my client is as fussy about tea as I am so he's bought a kettle which sits next to the hot water tap and allows us to make "proper" tea.

Plus they're bloody expensive for what is basically just a fancy kettle.

YoniAndGuy · 22/12/2020 14:10

Yes it tastes appalling. The same as if you use re-boiled water in the kettle - metallic and stale. Not surprising, because that's exactly what they do - keep re-boiling the same water. Lots online about the various reasons why the taste of re-boiled water is different and spoils tea.

The taps are great but NO to using them for a good cup of tea!

schnubbins · 22/12/2020 15:25

The sparkling water tap is brilliant though. Our water tastes divine!

yelyah22 · 22/12/2020 15:53

Makes your tea weird, don't do it!
