To think Royal Mail parcels regularly arrive opened?

In Manchester they all seem to arrive now with holes in the packaging. Today's latest was slit open completely.

well I buy and sell on ebay regularly probably 500+ parcels a year I doubt more than 1 or two have arrived damaged and only one looked opened but contents were intact

lazylinguist · 21/12/2020 16:28

I've literally never had this happen! I mean... occasionally a small hole where the packaging looks damaged, but I've never had a parcel that was even open enough to see what's inside, or deliberately slit. Maybe it's a local problem?

warmandtoasty2day · 21/12/2020 16:29

i'd report it to customer services if this is happening, things might be going awol, rm has a duty of care whilst in transit.

MaggieFS · 21/12/2020 16:29

Never known it.

VulvaPerson · 21/12/2020 16:30

I wouldnt say regularly from personal experience, however over the years I have had 2 birthday cards arrived open. I thought there may be someone in the chain checking if any cash was in at the time tbh. Both happened the same year. Never again after.

Bargebill19 · 21/12/2020 16:33

Only had one opened and reseated - guess diesel filters weren’t what they wanted.
Report it. It might be an accident such as a faulty piece of machinery or someone being less than honest. At least Royal Mail can then try to fix it.

EBearhug · 21/12/2020 16:33

Not here. Had a magazine arrive with a damaged cover, but that's all. Anyone could see what it was without iopenibg the original package, though.

I've had a lot of parcels delivered this year. My postman is probably the person I most speak to face-to-face these days.

satnighttakeaway · 21/12/2020 16:36

No, I can't ever remember getting an opened parcel, sometimes something has a small dint in the cardboard but that's to be expected imo

Nottherealslimshady · 21/12/2020 16:36

I buy online alot . Never had one arrive opened. Have had one go missing, although I think it got returned to sender, sender was useless. And had one arrive in one of those "oops we damaged it" bags but it didn't look deliberate.

Had a postie break a protective tube ramming it into my bin without even knocking last weekend which I was really pissed about.

nosswith · 21/12/2020 16:37

Not parcels. Long time suspicion about birthday cards though, to see if money is inside.

BrandyandDeath · 21/12/2020 16:37

I have had birthday cards arrive slit open this month, and two parcels out of perhaps fifty this year arrive opened. One of those had been left with a nosy neighbour, but the other parcel and the cards had been sent intact and delivered not intact.

TodgerStrunk · 21/12/2020 16:39

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4108372-To-think-this-is-really-creepy What was in the parcel?

I've had cards opened and Tesco vouchers go missing. But that would be a teeny tiny portion of all the pieces of post over the years.

Badabingbadabum · 21/12/2020 16:42

I've had it happen a couple of times, but a rip or a hole where it's clearly got caught on something. If its happening regularly then raise it with your local sorting office?

Digestive28 · 21/12/2020 16:46

We had a few last year, as did some friends...some complaints an arrest later it turns out it was one person not the Royal Mail in general. It was quite the scandal!

VeganVeal · 21/12/2020 16:46

I had it recently. Received a package that had a hole in the bag. Was a box about the size you expect a phone to come in. The hole was finger size on the side of the box. Maybe coincidence or maybe not

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 21/12/2020 16:47

Only ever had stuff opened by customs. (Forces mail, so it's British postage, but gets customs checks sometimes)

Once I was an order of badges for the Scout group. I think they must have spilled out everywhere when the parcel was opened as the inventory had some extra check marks where it looked like they had to count all the badges... There were a couple of hundred of them!

Varjakpaw · 21/12/2020 16:47

I've never had it happen.

Bunnybigears · 21/12/2020 16:48

The only time this has happened to me is with packages from abroad which I assume have been checked by customs.

MrsHookey · 21/12/2020 16:48

Thanks - holes are regularly finger shaped, it does tend to happen regularly with cards. Today a card was delivered by registered delivery and the envelope was sliced open entirely. It must be a local problem indeed!

ouchmyfeet · 21/12/2020 16:50

Had it a couple of times here recently, I'm also in Manchester

WaterAndTheWild · 21/12/2020 16:51

I think it depends on your sorting office.. I used to have it all the time in Whitechapel but never since

steppemum · 21/12/2020 16:51

I can't remember this happening, and we get several packages a week.

Occasioanlly battered, or as PP said a small rip form machine, rarely going through to centre.

Please report, as most likely a theif in the sorting office.

NeonBella · 21/12/2020 16:52

I've had an amazon voucher for 50 quid delivered that had already been redeemed! I was gutted. I've also had many parcels delivered that looked like they had been opened to check the contents.

frazzledasarock · 21/12/2020 17:05

I have received damaged/open parcels envelopes in the past. Have never complained as the items have arrived regardless.

Think if it happens in future I will complain.

It’s not happened so much recently as a lot of my post isn’t via Royal Mail and most is recorded or signed for. I’d not accept it if those arrived opened.

MrsHookey · 21/12/2020 18:24

These were next vouchers and they were each for a big sum. I wonder if anyone is able to redeem them while not scratching off the little pin. The envelopes were sent as "signed for" too. But I hadnt signed for them.
