To ask about how to unblock my ear

I really don’t want to go to the chemist but my ear a blocked and I feel,I am completely deaf in one ear.
I gently used a cotton bud but nothing changes. Is it true olive oil can help? I’m not in much pain but it’s bothering me to the extent I want to try and clear it,
Any advice please?

Another possibly terrible idea is to use the end of a Kirby grip as a makeshift Jobson’s Horn to scoop it out once you’ve softened it.

@britnay Cooking olive oil is fine! If it's ok to ingest, it's ok to stick in your ear Grin. (As long as you haven't already used it for frying, obvs...)

The person whose DH couldn't get rid of it - sometimes its not wax, more like adult glue ear. Beconase works or over the counter sudafed and valsava maneuver several times a day eventually unblocked mine after several miserable weeks

Boots stock Earol, an olive oil product specifically for the purpose. It shoots a fine spray into the ear and should be used for at least 5 days before attempting any syringing.

Dh had his ears suctioned at Specsavers, but was told to use olive oil for 5 days beforehand.

Don't use a hair grip as a Jobson Horne please

If it’s definitely wax then the drops I found most beneficial and quickest is Earex the one that (fizzes and pops in your ear) clears it in a few days.

But I had terrible blocked ears after a cold, couldn’t hear a thing. Wouldn’t pop for live nor money. Eventually went the doctor. She said there wasn’t any wax. So likely an infection of some sort due the the recent cold even though there was no inflammation. She gave me antibiotic drops to put in my ears, worked a treat.

If you’ve had a cold recently then I’d get your ear checked out.

I've got a syringe from Amazon that is designed for the purpose. The nozzle has several holes which squirt water out in different directions whilst it stuck in your ear. Works like magic, although it's not the most pleasant process!
