Hi there fellow pagans are you having a good day ? hope so,dh, dd and me are having a cosy time at home wading through the solstice goodies, and enjoying daft films on the t.v.
the only down side is that dm is on stage 5 ckd in hospital, but she's with us in spirit.
we are celebrating the return of the sun and for life to return to the earth in the spring.
what are you doing ?

I'm not a pagan but the solstice is worth celebrating .... after today the days will be getting longer!Smile

Thanks for the reminder, I'd forgotten to check if it fell on the 21st or 22nd this year.

Also for sky-gazers, there's a rare conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn this evening (6:20 iirc).

Just a shame we've got cloud and rain forecast...

JovialNickname · 21/12/2020 13:47

Me, I am. After today the days are getting longer and sunshine and natural light will infiltrate our lives. No government order can stop that.

Allergictoironing · 21/12/2020 13:53

Solstice celebrant here, was hoping to watch the sunrise but dense cloud cover in the South East sadly. Decorations put up to welcome the returning sun, feasting tonight on my own but with extra treats for the cats.

Icenii · 21/12/2020 13:53

I'd like to but working. Off to a light show tonight and will look for the planets. Did have a post about planning resolutions by the Moon but no one answered!

Giggorata · 21/12/2020 13:55

We are! Did our lovely Solstice Ritual with the coven last night and have a symbel ((feast, celebration) this evening. ☀️

Hoping the skies will clear, so I can see the Jupiter Saturn conjunction in the night sky.😀. 🍻 🍻

goodnessidontknow · 21/12/2020 13:56

We are, we've just finished our lovely dinner and I'll be lighting candles at 3.58pm to hold back the dark. Happy Solstice!

ForestNymph · 21/12/2020 13:56

We are! Very low key this year due to how hectic its been but ill be doing a tarot spread later as well as a family ritual jar.

FilledSoda · 21/12/2020 13:57

I'm wfh but will mark it this evening .
Icenii I'm sorry you didn't get any responses. I'd definitely have replied if I'd seen it . That's right up my street.
Solstice Blessings !

AuntieStella · 21/12/2020 13:59

Longest night - may you all be snuggled up with the person of your choosing, or a good book!

ForestNymph · 21/12/2020 14:00

@Icenii I didn't see it or I would've posted. Didn't even jnow there were other pagans on MN, I get the impression there aren't many of us on here.

RaspberryCoulis · 21/12/2020 14:01

Nothing really official to mark it but it's always one of the most important days of the year to me. The slide into darkness through November and December is SO depressing and this year has been even worse.

As of tomorrow the light starts returning and it's marvellous. New beginnings. Today we get 6h and 58 minutes of daylight in Glasgow. By the 21st January, that's up to almost 8 hours. It makes a massive difference. Roll on June.

Hopefully someone makes it go live

Lillyhatesjaz · 21/12/2020 15:02

Not a pagan but we were considering going outside and wassailing our apple tree this evening as it didn't do very well this year and I think this is the right day although please correct me if I am wrong.

MedusasBadHairDay · 21/12/2020 15:05

Got to work today, but going to take the kids out later to try and see the conjunction, also started the morning by watching a live stream of the sun rising over stonehenge.

Forest There's a few of us, some are on a thread on the religion board

You're a wee bit early - old Christmas Day ( Jan 7th) is the traditional date but I doubt the tree will mind if you do it tonight :)

Happy Solstice everyone. I put my Solstice Tree up yesterday and cracked open a new bottle of apple infused mead.

It's fairly low key here otherwise. I kept a candle burning last night and will do so tonight to make sure the sun returns to us,

ForestNymph · 21/12/2020 15:39

@MedusasBadHairDay I'll look for that thread, thanks Smile

RolandSchitt · 21/12/2020 15:56

I'm quietly/privately taking note of Solstice, no one IRL knows I lean towards paganism. It's a bit if an unknown for me still.

The house has been gutted, candles are lit, and I'm looking forward to to sun's return. I doubt we'll see much of the sky tonight, but you never know.

Happy Solstice to all Smile

SpreadeagledSquire · 21/12/2020 15:58

Happy Solstice to all ♥️

Snibril · 21/12/2020 16:03

We have had our own quiet celebrations today. My youngest son and I went for a walk at 7am so we were out for the sunrise (shame it's been a dismal day!). I had to do some cooking but had a nice sense of calm while performing culinary magic Grin This evening when my DH finishes work we will sit together and eat the pork and cider stew that's currently bubbling away. We always have pork on the Winter Solstice as it's what the ancestors probably ate from their dwellings at Durrington Walls diring the time of the gathering at nearby Stonehenge. Merriest of blessing, light and love to all.

ConquestEmpireHungerPlague · 21/12/2020 16:12

Me. Happy Yule, everyone. Unto us is born the sun. Smile

nosswith · 21/12/2020 16:20

I am not celebrating it, but remembered that from tomorrow daylight begins to increase, which cheered me up.

MasterBeth · 21/12/2020 16:21

A lot of people are celebrating the winter solstice in some way or other, aren’t they? Christmas, Hanukkah, however we dress it up, it’s really all a cry against the bleak midwinter and a mark that lighter, warmer, more bountiful days will come again.

“That’s why, that’s why
We hang the lights so high.”

RupertRupertTheBear · 21/12/2020 16:31

Not a pagan but I like to mark the solstice.
I've lit a new candle. I wanted to toast marshmallows over a bonfire, but the DC wanted a pyjama day instead. Looking forward to longer days. ☀️

HeronLanyon · 21/12/2020 16:32

Not exactly celebrating but did think back to summer solstice when I got up before dawn and went up into the moors to see sun rise. Hard to think what mind set we were all in then. I remember shock that we were still in lockdown and probably wondering if I could manage to get to Greece for a late summer break. Bloody hell. All tits up eh ?

AnnieJ1985 · 21/12/2020 16:54

Not a pagan but I get great comfort from the winter solstice, knowing that the days will get longer again. It was dreary here this morning (Dublin) but it was beautiful yesterday, and the footage from Newgrange is the reminder I needed that this year is just a blip in the great scheme of things.
