I just love it! It’s such a good British humour Christmas film and doesn’t have all the cheesiness of an American christmas film!

It’s on Netflix @TheDogsMother

I love it but I don’t think it’s fair to slag off American films and praise British ones. Love actually: schmaltzy crap full of terrible people. Elf: fab

TheDogsMother · 20/12/2020 22:12

Thanks @Hobbes8

Annoy · 20/12/2020 22:12

@SantasAnus

Arthur Christmas is a great Christmas movie. None of the cringe factor of some other British Christmas films.
Yes, it’s the cringe I can’t stand! Such as the carol singing at the end of Elf 🤮

I'm in the U.S. and I love Arthur Christmas. My favorite part is when the old Santa offers up the elf to the lions. Seriously worthwhile holiday entertainment.

Andylion · 20/12/2020 22:21

It is! It’s the British humour, that no one else gets. It’s brill 😀

I’m Canadian and I get it. I love Bryony,

Hobbes8 · 20/12/2020 22:21

Elf is amazing! You take that back!

I’m super busy at work at the moment but dying to see the new Dolly Parton film on Netflix. To be honest if it weren’t for work I’d spend the whole of December eating crisps and watching hallmark movies on channel 5.

heuchterteuchter · 20/12/2020 22:22

ah, we love Arthur Christmas! such a funny, warm film! Arthur and Bryony and Grand santa are really funny together!
We also love 'Get Santa', lovely British family film about a single dad trying to rescue santa from jail!
Elf, is also fab!!

NewLockdownNewMe · 20/12/2020 22:27

Love Arthur Christmas! Watched it last week, may watch again this week.

This thread prompted me to look up the cast - I hadn’t realised just how many big names are in it!

NovemberR · 20/12/2020 22:27

I love it! My favourite film and we've already watched it twice this month to cheer ourselves up!

Absolutely agree that it's so British with the droll humour. Teenage DC love Grandsanta - whereas I just think Arthur is joyous.

WeatherwaxOn · 20/12/2020 23:10

One of our regular ones to watch.
We usually watch Elf on Christmas Eve too.

grassisjeweled · 20/12/2020 23:11

Yes it's good

AlexaPlayWhiteNoise · 20/12/2020 23:18

It's my favourite Christmas film I think. I love Grandsanta. And Margaret. And Arthur always leaving the doors open at the north pole. It's just brilliant.

CantTrampoline · 20/12/2020 23:39

@Theredjellybean

Our family favorite We can all quote bill nighys grandpa santa lines... Especially when he can't remember the names of the reindeer....
My favorite is "they used to say it was impossible to teach women to read" Spat my tea out the first time I heard it.
Andylion · 21/12/2020 00:12

I also love that they drive the sleigh through Toronto.

Gwenhines · 21/12/2020 07:33

I don't think it's fair to say all American Xmas films are crap. It's the churned out conveyor belt hallmark ones that are crap. Santa Claus the Movie is fantastic. Miracle on 34th Street (both) great. Elf is hilarious the first couple of times you see it, and nice to watch every year as tradition. But Arthur Christmas has so many jokes and quirky sayings that you don't notice them all each time you watch it, and the message that Santa is a feeling is lovely.

OutComeTheWolves · 21/12/2020 10:56

It's our fave. I'm trying to save it to watch on Christmas Eve but I've been tempted to put it on this morning .

Leolion09 · 21/12/2020 11:04

We love it and watch it every Christmas Eve the jokes are just brilliant and the characters are all fantastic, I aim to be like Mrs Claus, take it all in her stride, just look over a treaty with Greenland and make gravy. Xmas Grin

PizzaForOne · 21/12/2020 11:08

I think Arthur Christmas is okay. Prefer both Paddington's tbh, although not so christmas-y

I don't get the Nativity series of movies. They are simply awful.

MaddieElla · 21/12/2020 11:15

Love! And Arthur IS happy at the end. He's happy all the way through, that's the point. When Santa and Steve look at him in the cupboard at Gwen's House and he is absolutely beaming. THAT'S the point. Grin

My other favourite is Christmas Vacation. Just love it.

And I watch Santa Claus: The Movie every Christmas eve as it reminds me of being little. Smile

Yeah, the US ones aren’t all crap but it was more the British sense of humour that you get in Arthur Christmas, which you just don’t get in US films. Imagine and Aardman version of Elf? 😀

I agree.... The Nativity series are awful! Up there with Love Actually. Dare I say it but I’n not a fan of Martin Freeman 🙈

So many visual jokes going on, I'm sure that I've missed loads even though I've seen the film several times. I love the knackered old reindeer. When you first see him, he appears to have a bright red nose, but he moves his head, and it was just a ball. Such a throwaway little visual joke, but beautiful.

Binglebong · 22/12/2020 08:10

Don't get me wrong, I know Arthur is happy. I just think it's a shame they don't say it - something like "Arthur remained very, very happy."
