I just love it! It’s such a good British humour Christmas film and doesn’t have all the cheesiness of an American christmas film!

@Xiaoxiong

We love it but for pure inaccessible Britishness I think the Nativity films take the prize. My American aunt sat through the first half hour of the first film completely lost and us trying to explain the jokes didn't help either!
That is interesting, as a Canadian I love them, and my family does as well - mostly I have a hard time relating to the American ones. (This is not a universal Canadian thing, you'd find a mix here I think.)

It is a humour difference for sure, but difficult to put a finger on what that entails.

I love Grandad santa

Nonamesavail · 20/12/2020 21:17

My favourite!

romany4 · 20/12/2020 21:18

Aworldofmyown · 20/12/2020 21:18

Love it!!!

@Wishfulthinkk

Am I the only one that really doesn’t like it Blush I think it has too much technology and ruins the idea of the “magic” of Christmas! Father Xmas shouldn’t have all these gizmos and gadgets! Bah humbug, give me the Polar Express any day Grin
I really want to watch polar express with my little boy but can't find it anywhere!! I might see if it's too late to order from amazon Grin

It's my favourite Christmas film too! Does anyone else think Arthur's brother Steve looks like Paul Hollywood??
Yes 🤣

It’s a great film. I love the train track laying at the beginning as a link back to Wallace and Gromit.

Lots of extra touches which are fantastic. Love aardman!

waitingforadulthood · 20/12/2020 21:38

It is the best Christmas film ever. Beats the muppets. I'd never have thought to say that. "I realise this is mental but it's all that I know" may be the most relatable british sentence ever. Any one in storm, caught out and afraid has done just that, it's perfect Brit humour

PurpleSproutingSomething · 20/12/2020 21:41

The Polar Express is one of the worst Christmas films ever.

SantasAnus · 20/12/2020 21:44

Arthur Christmas is a great Christmas movie. None of the cringe factor of some other British Christmas films.

Runnerduck34 · 20/12/2020 21:47

Love Arthur Christmas, favourite film in our house. Also love Arthurs mum voiced by imelda stauton, is she even given a name?mrs Claus?

TheDogsMother · 20/12/2020 21:51

I was recommended this film by a friend and want to watch it even more now having read these comments. Is it on iPlayer or any of the streaming services ?

babyguffingtonstrikesagain · 20/12/2020 21:53

My 10yo was in hysterics at Grandpa Santa in the wheelie bin at the end!

Daisy95 · 20/12/2020 21:55

This is my fav! Just watched it again this afternoon 🥰

Brandaris · 20/12/2020 21:56

@Runnerduck34 I think she’s called Margaret?

PodgeBod · 20/12/2020 21:59

I love it, we watch it on Christmas eve.
My favourite little joke is when Steve is flicking through his phone at the dinner table there is a flirty message from one of the elves Xmas Grin

Yep, he is definitely Paul Hollywood Grin

ohidoliketobe · 20/12/2020 22:02

@Binglebong

The 9nly thing is that at the end "X got Y and was happy" and "A got B and was happy" and nowhere does it say Arthur is happy!
I might be reading too much into it, but if you think about it - Arthur was always happy, he never felt dissatisfied with his lot. The others (apart from Mum) were trying to prove something - Grandad that the old times were the best; Steve that the new way of doing things is efficient and therefore better, so he should be Santa; Dad that he's done a good job and wanting to keep on going because he likes "being" Santa. They're the ones who have lost the true meaning of Christmas and are distracted by their selfish notions. Arthur's is always happy
waitingforadulthood · 20/12/2020 22:02

Mrs Claus is Margaret . She is so clearly based upon the queen. When she takes the spaceship, because she's read the manual, the queens mechanic background ? The fact she looks like the queen?

waitingforadulthood · 20/12/2020 22:04

Ohideo- you are right. Arthur is already happy. That's the point

Sciurus83 · 20/12/2020 22:05

It's the best. Put it on yesterday after the announcements, it was the only thing that could cheer us up

Taswama · 20/12/2020 22:08

Yanbu. Brilliant film.

Sittingonthefence83 · 20/12/2020 22:10

@PodgeBod , Grin definitely Paul Hollywood then!
