If you've had Covid recently and recovered

Do you think you have sufficient immunity to meet up with other people who have also had it without too much worrying at least for a few weeks? There's no info out there

I’m recovering from Covid, but I won’t be letting my guard down . We don’t know how much protection we have afterwards, and what effects the mutation might have on immunity .

RelightMyPfizer · 20/12/2020 19:28

Yes, my DD has had immunity as part of a gvt programme. I have paid for testing and have immunity- testing again in Jan

I am walking the dogs of covid people
Setting up PCs for the elderly
Helping at a charity

We are doing what is required for SD but basically don't feel at risk at all. I have given loads of hand sanitiser to the homeless as we are just hand washing now.

bubblicious3 · 20/12/2020 19:33

Interesting @RelightMyPfizer - was she part of the testing? I feel like we could have family over in similar circa as unlikely to be risks but partner not happy to go so (he had it too)

It depends on what you mean by recently. I had covid in April and by August I had no immunity to it. People can get Covid twice. Will it be more severe or less severe? I wouldn't be eager to find out

bubblicious3 · 20/12/2020 19:42

@Leaannb recently is one month ago. Reading up on it only a handful of people have tested positive twice.

Only a handful of people that we know of who tested positive twice. How many got it twice but didn't test because they were told around the world that you can only get it once...

Livelovebehappy · 20/12/2020 19:47

I’ve had it and recovered (apart from still no taste or smell) about 3/4 weeks ago. What I’m confused about is, if you’ve had it and are now immune, does that mean you can’t pass it on still? I was thinking that if you’ve had it, can’t you still be a carrier, ie touch something contaminated and pass in to someone even though you are immune yourself? Sorry if that’s a dumb question!

middleager · 20/12/2020 19:47

My son had Covid a month ago, but no, he won't be hugging granny anytime soon.

His school is thick in cases and there is no evidence as to whether those who've had it can still carry it. Same with my FIL who's had the vaccine.

I act as if everybody has it to be on the safe side.

Echobelly · 20/12/2020 19:52

Haven't had it, but when I do I would assume I'd be extremely unlikely to get it again for 3-6 months. I'd assume we'd see lots more peoppe having it twice by now were it common, but I suppose we'll know a lot more after this winter.

I still wouldn't hug anyone outside my household, but I'd probably feel safe going into my parents' house for at least 3 months afterwards and expect would use it as an excuse to do so.

My brother and family had it early on (before any sort of testing was very available, but they're pretty certain and it went round the family) and he's been seeing vulnerable family members occasionally since (with their agreement, obvs), but he is being more careful now.

JacobMarley · 20/12/2020 19:53

DD’s friend had covid back in April. She gave it to her parents who were self isolating and working from home.

Friend has continued to attend social functions in various pubs and clubs, despite her parents pleading with her not to. She tested positive again last week - and passed it on to her parents again. All 3 are really ill this time.

middleager · 20/12/2020 19:55

That's worrying Jacob

Aquamarine1029 · 20/12/2020 19:57

I had it at the end of September, and I'm still dealing with some lingering issues I think are related. I definitely don't want to catch it again.

That sounds really shit. I hope they all recover quickly.

I wonder if your DD's friend got the new variant this time round?

Dominicwestsscooter · 20/12/2020 19:57

Who knows?
@JacobMarley your daughter’s friend is a disgrace. I’ve had it a couple of months ago. I was very ill for about six weeks. I’m definitely nervous of catching it again.

middleager · 20/12/2020 19:58

Yes, my son is still absolutely exhausted a month on, so sorry to hear you are dealing with issues too.

Lostinacloud · 20/12/2020 20:00

I’ve had it and can’t see why having antibody making information injected into you via vaccine is really any different to having caught the illness, made the antibody information yourself and still continue to store it.
Also, most viruses I know of that fall into the coronavirus, influenza bracket spread via symptoms in the ill person. Well if you’ve had either the vaccine or the antibodies you’ve made yourself already would you then develop enough of an illness, if any, to be symptomatic and be able to spread it? Seems unlikely but there’s little to no information about this side of things and I don’t really understand why not. It’s still a coronavirus at the end of the day and surely they have been studied for years.

LindaEllen · 20/12/2020 20:03

Me and DP have still been very careful, as you could still carry the virus from place to place on your hands even if you personally have immunity at the moment.

IHeartKingThistle · 20/12/2020 20:03

I had it in November. I don't really feel safer and I didn't pass it to anyone so I still feel that my secondary age DC are too much of a risk to be seeing elderly family. But we are having local friends over for drinks on Christmas Day because their kids are in the same classes as mine, DH and our friends have been working from home for months and I've had it. (All within the rules - Tier 2.)

I'm a secondary teacher. Still just as scared of what we're facing when we go back if I'm honest.

It took me months to recover from the exhaustion
Toddlerteaplease · 20/12/2020 20:05

I had it at the end of October. I do feel relieved that I've had it and hopefully my antibodies will cover me until I get my first vaccine on the 31st.

bubblicious3 · 20/12/2020 20:06

@LindaEllen but is there actual evidence of that? I've not seen any research on this and it's not suggested either other coronaviruses

OP posts:
easterholidays · 20/12/2020 20:06

I had it in October but I'm still being careful. We don't know how easy it is to catch it twice and we certainly don't know that you can't carry it and infect someone else even if you're personally immune. It's just not worth the risk.

We have known from the beginning that Corona can be spread by asymptomatic carriers
bubblicious3 · 20/12/2020 20:08

Partner and I both recovered well. Both exercising and back to normality.
